we added an extra $100kCAD an hour before the vendor was considering all the offers. The extra hundred grand was nothing compared to the millions by which our coins increased in value while we patiently waited.
She's glad now that we waited. We get our lake and our millions.
Thank you Bitcoin.
Wow, that's a pretty good vendor intel right there. Is it typical in Canada to be told the decision time by an hour? I never heard about it here, where they just vaguely tell you that a better offer was received. One time my buying agent was clearly in cahoots with the selling agent (that is completely illegal)-we even had to have a consult with a lawyer.

It's stories like this that make me feel so happy I don't have a wife... If I did have a wife and she dared to shout at me for not selling the top or for buying the dip, I would literally say to her "pack your things and get the hell out of my house". That's also one of the reasons why I would never live in a house not owned by me. We do not have full context of what happened on the story however I wonder what some people are thinking when they have those kind of reactions to their partners? As an example I do not know anything about the law, if for some reason I found myself with the need to hire a lawyer I would do so and listen to their advice and follow it, I will not tell them I know more than them and try to impose my views, I could give some feedback but that will be it. It seems for the most part the husband was the bitcoin and investment expert of the family, they had a nice life and could afford to get more bitcoin, why is she questioning his call when they are doing so well? Does she believe to know better? Why? Probably most of those posting on this thread will agree with his call and his assessment of the market, there is no need to sell bitcoin now and maybe ever when the ceiling seems to be way higher than where we are now.

Best way to manage these issues: never tell the SO you have bitcoin. Second best: don't say how much, just some pocket money for the lulz. These strategies come handy if she ever turns her back on you, too. Unrelated, since Jimbo seems to have done pretty well for himself - under all respects: job, finance, women - but... my wife
I must've missed the fact you got married! Congrats man, you're a true legend.

I never heard about it here, where they just vaguely tell you that a better offer was received. One time my buying agent was clearly in cahoots with the selling agent (that is completely illegal)-we even had to have a consult with a lawyer. On Wednesday when I made an appointment with my agent to put together an offer and meet me on Thursday to sign it, there were no other offers. On Thursday when I met her to sign, she said the vendor's agent had told her there was another offer. I signed for the asking price. I trust my agent but I don't know the vendor's agent. Then later that afternoon she called to tell me there was yet another offer. She also said that the vendor's agent told her that the vendor and his lawyer were going to meet with him at noon the next day to assess all three offers. Later that night after clearing my head with a few drinks, I was suspicious about the flurry of last-minute offers. I realized that maybe the other agent wasn't being completely forthcoming about all the offers and maybe he was holding back an offer where he stood to make both ends of the commission by representing both the vendor and the purchaser. That's when I decided to throw in the extra $100k and waive several conditions to make a preemptive strike and make sure we got the lake. I met my agent at 9:30AM on Friday, initialed all the changes to the offer and she got it to the vendor's agent around 11:00AM. Talk about the eleventh hour!

Good advice. And I would generalize it to include parents, relatives, friends, anyone really. Just keep any coin-related info absolutely to yourself, and, perhaps, arrange for some way to release the coins to the ones you choose, after your death. I think humans are a nasty species. The best and the worst of the animal kingdom. Tread with caution.
Off-topic movie recommendation: Tonight I will be watching The Wizard of Lies (2017), the fall of Bernie Madoff, whose Ponzi scheme robbed $65 billion from unsuspecting victims—the largest fraud in U.S. history. I don't know if the movie is good, but today I spent the entire day researching the story, and I found it absolutely fascinating. I find Robert De Niro's choice as Bernie Madoff to be excellent, and very fitting for the role. Should be a great watch.

I must've missed the fact you got married! Congrats man. Thanks. Married a Mexican cutie 28 years my junior in February 2020 after being with her for about a year. Old-fashioned girl... understands the differences between men and women. Also smart... knew about Bitcoin when it was worth a buck but couldn't do anything about it at the time. We'd already been together some time before I told her I was a hodler and it blew her mind.

When it was worth a buck, couldn't or wouldn't? Even in Mexico, there must have been some exchanges accessible to buy a few bucks. That's everyone's story though ... everyone knew about Bitcoin when it was a buck.

I was late to the party apparently. I cannot even remember the price being in the double digits, honestly. Stacking sats now. All the best I can do. Purchasing land out of the realm of possible things for the moment. But I am happy as it is right now. Still early compared to the mass. And who knows what would have I done if I had purchased 1000 BTC at 1. @Jimbotoronto: congrats marrying the right girl.

If I did have a wife and she dared to shout at me for not selling the top or for buying the dip, I would literally say to her "pack your things and get the hell out of my house". Well, sometimes it is not a shout, but crying, as others attested. I was talked to for not selling at 20K (actually, I initially promised to sell at 10K, but then decided not to). It all worked itself out, but hear this..the wife informed me that she has some house and garden projects in mind and it is basically non-negotiable. I don't mind at all, considering that the projects make sense. Why not bring a bit more enjoyment in lieu of spending something? Fortunately, I don't have to sell btc to do this. Hahahahahaha That partially explains some of your competing interests, Biodom (including some of your seemingly ongoing skittishness in regards to whether bitcoin might be in a "bubble"), but not completely. By the way, I do agree with your largely schooling AlcoHoDL on the "kicking out" theory because reality of relationships can be quite a bit more complicated.. and I have seen both kinds of relationship situations of having lots of interwebs that are difficult to untangle and also the kinds that are seemingly less filled with interwebs, but even then it can be difficult to know how much trouble the chick might give or attempt to give in the "leaving" part. Another part is attempting to identify incompatibilities early, and to attempt to figure out how severe some of those incompatibilities might be, so surely, there might be signs of incompatibilities early on that become worse and worse and worse with the passage of time rather better - and it is not always going to be easy to know if some or all of the incompatibilities are going to add up to a deal breaker or justify needing to cut the ties earlier rather than later. Good morning oops, it's after noon Bitcoinland.
I kind of wonder what is considered to be official forum time... frequently, I consider it to be UTC.. but then other times eastern time is used as a reference... Likely you are referring to UTC.. and that seems to make the most sense.,. in terms of bitcoin and when daily candles close.. etc... Still dragging along in the $5xxxx range... currently $53851USD/$67743CAD (Bitcoinaverage).
March was OK, got us over $50k, but it's time to move up. C'mon April, take us to $70k (and beyond).
Go Bitcoin go. ____
Thank gawd my wife is smart enough to let me make the Bitcoin decisions.
Closest she came to interfering was back in January when she was worried about missing out on our lake and wanted to sell enough for a deposit. I explained that holding on for even a couple more months would make a big difference and that I didn't think anyone else would grab the lake in the middle of covid winter.
Turns out our timing was good. By the time we signed an offer, several other offers had been made but we added an extra $100kCAD an hour before the vendor was considering all the offers. The extra hundred grand was nothing compared to the millions by which our coins increased in value while we patiently waited.
She's glad now that we waited. We get our lake and our millions.

Surely, in retrospect, it seems that you had the right hunch, but we know that sometimes those kinds of decisions can end up going either way.. but yeah, since January we had decent BTC appreciation in both February and March.. but overall January was not too good of a month (relatively speaking), except the first week or so.

That's everyone's story though ... everyone knew about Bitcoin when it was a buck. Mexico's a big country. She was living in the state of Quintana Roo where there is no Bitcoin infrastructure and banks are basically for tourists. Most natives don't use banks. She was also in a remote village where there is no phone service and intermittent internet connectivity. I wish I knew about Bitcoin when it was $1. I didn't discover it until January 2013 and by then it was already $15.

Wired was grim, plus I spent exactly 2 min on the article and got distracted by the word "Linux" as far as where to run it. Back then I had no clue about Linux. An opportunity missed. In retrospect, that probably left me never making a MtGox account, which was for the better, obviously. Next time was October 2013 and Senate hearings-got progressively more interested with a full interest since maybe Nov 2013-at the peak of that cycle.

I was referring to EDT. Actually I consider "morning" to be whenever you get up. I used to get up at the crack of noon but lately I'm getting up a lot earlier. I still think of 9:00AM as farmers' hours though.

I have found that it is not a bad practice to take the counsel of any specialist, whether we are referring to lawyer, doctor, mechanic, plumber, financial consultant, nutritionist, or other kinds of supposed experts with a decently-sized grain of salt. Sure, if you do not know shit about a particular topic, then you should be exercising quite a bit more deference to the purported expert... but yeah, at that same time, it would not be good to get too far over your skiis in terms of questioning about shit that you have no clue about or if you are suffering from dunning-kruger syndrome.. you gotta be careful of that.. for sures. Thanks. Married a Mexican cutie 28 years my junior in February 2020 after being with her for about a year.

When it was worth a buck, couldn't or wouldn't? Even in Mexico, there must have been some exchanges accessible to buy a few bucks. That's everyone's story though ... everyone knew about Bitcoin when it was a buck. Ultimately that seems to be a fair point, Dabs, even though it may be coming off as a wee bit harsh (who am I to assert what might be harsh and not?... hahahahahha). The essence remains that action seems to be the thing that really counts because purely knowing about bitcoin, seems to be insufficient, but instead, what actions did you take or attempt to take to get a stake in the matter, even if it is merely a small stake. By the way, in late 2013, when I really heard about bitcoin (beyond merely the name), there were already exchanges that were available.. including Local Bitcoins that could be used (almost anywhere) to set up some buy/sell relations. At around a buck, wouldn't that have been 2011? From what I can see on the charts, most of 2012 we had like $4 to $12 bitcoins, but wasn't there a rise and a subsequent crash in there from $32 to $2?.., Anyhow, part of my point is that there could be some actual explanations in regards to difficulties getting bitcoin and whether someone might want to wire money to Japan.. and I am not sure if I would have been willing to do that, if I had known about it.. so for me it was helpful to already have some buy and sell infrastructure in place, even if it might not be close to as advanced as today.. ... so it is difficult to put yourself into someone else's shoes unless knowing what options might have been available and maybe how far the other person(s) may have taken measures to investigate various options that could be possible and reasonable when looking back to 2011, 2012 and even early 2013...

Without giving away too much opsec (or even too many private particulars), fillippone, it might not be a bad idea to give us a few more details about what you mean about some of the history covered in your post, exactly. So for example, if you heard about bitcoin at x time or y price, then what did you do? Did you buy a little and then get distracted by shitcoins? Did you become more bullish about bitcoin later? Sure many of us might have some regrets about having inadequate earlier plans that we had to bolster later.. but then if you created some kind of accumulation goal, are you anywhere close to reaching it, and sure, of course, BTC's price movement can cause some changes in the accumulation goal plans and to cause some of us to consider that we had reached our goal before we thought that we would. Anywhooooo... I would not mind hearing some more details so we (royal in this case for sure) can beat you up about your details a bit.. hahahahahhaha (no homo)That's everyone's story though ... everyone knew about Bitcoin when it was a buck.
