I never told him an exact amount when i was talking about my holdings, in advance to rule out jealousy, which can really kill a friendship,
You kind of have a point that it could become quite tempting to tell a good friend about your exact holdings or even to give a kind of ballpark figure that gives them some pretty good ideas of what your are your holdings. I tend to avoid those kinds of specifics, which is pretty similar to what I do on the forum, which is mostly giving various hypotheticals, and from time to time switching them up so that they should be realized to be kind of contradictory... and so whether it would be a matter of jealousy or just a matter of need to know and/or trust. Frequently that level of detail is not necessary unless there is some purpose, like for example, I might have a best friend who I am considering to be the executory of my estate, and I prefer the friend because I would rather it not be a beneficiary and/or family member... so that kind of friend had already likely risen to the level of something very close to being a family member if I would be thinking about them in that kind of a way, and therefore I might be considering more specific disclosures to be warranted.
later i said i had to sell "most of my corn" to finance the extension of my house, which was at least partly true, because i was speculating with a small amount of Bitcoin bought in 2019, a short while after the capitulation bottom and sold a few months later. We were staying good frens this way, and we still talk crypto every now and then.
Yeah it is good to either have a decent cover story that is not exactly lying, but it leaves a fair amount of plausible deniability, and surely there could be some folks who we know who own bitcoin and they are doing the same thing to us as we are doing to them in terms of being somewhat vague in their various disclosures.
The other one was an assistant in the company i worked for. He was an altcoiner, but really about equal BTC and fiat gains, making some money while building a stack. It was around the 2021 crashening. He was "consulting" his boss how and which crypto to buy, and it worked out for a while, and then he left the company. I was undecided if i should show my knowledge and opinions to him (and the boss), but i managed to favor Bitcoin without even mentioning if and how much cryptos i held, because nobody even asked.
Yep, those can be kind of uncomfortable conversations when people are recommending various shitcoins to other people who you might not want to get mislead and/or drug down such a path.
By the way, I have gotten into some pretty heated debates in the real world involving friends and friends of friends and so many of them both know I have bitcoin and they even will sometimes go down the path of asking me and prodding and even trying to suggest bias based on how many bitcoin that I might own, and I usually avoid such disclosures by saying something like : "I could give few shits whether you guys buy bitcoin or not, it is not going to affect me either way. I already have system in place, and you can take the information that I give to you with whatever grain of salt that you would like. The choice is ultimately yours in regards to how you allocate your finances, whether you fail and refuse to buy bitcoin or whatever it is that you choose to do or fail/refuse to do." I will sometimes say other things, and surely it is not any kind of an exact script, it is whatever comes to my head at the time, and sometimes people will interrupt during some kind of a monologue rant like that or they will walk away or other kinds of things to show that they are not really caring about whatever I might be saying.
On all the other rare occasions i always played the role of the educated nocoiner. This did fit quite good, because the other people were nocoiners at well. One dad was talking about his stock investments with another dad when i picked up one of my kids after school once, and dad A said out of the blue "I am about to buy Bitcoin next", and it was last year, so his timing wasn't that bad, at least no real FOMO, but i only kept listening without even looking at them.
Well, yeah, I have had those kinds of conversations too, in which bitcoin seems to kind of come up in passing.. so there is not necessarily any kind of need to commit to anything too specific.
I forgot another former friend (he broke up with everybody because getting mad and paranoid from amphetamines), whom i talked to about Bitcoin at the time when i didn't have any, but he was frequently using low 2 digit Bitcoin amounts to buy drugs via darknet. It was around $300 at that time. I was already knowing a bit more than about the basics of Bitcoin and decided to buy and hodl some for myself, but got distracted to do so for years by my fucked up memorization. 2017 i was doing better and after i found a convenient way to buy corn, i started to build my lil stash when the price was about $2800, which was the lowest price i ever paid for any of my Bitcoin holdings.
Well that kind of sucks about your lowest ever BTC purchases, but it is what it is.. There surely are folks who are likely in worse situations, and yeah, whether we go below $30k again is kind of a current concern... but even anyone expecting mid-$20ks or even lower $20ks are likely in fantasy land, too.
Not really lucky, but still kind of. I always was a humble guy, so i am satisfied.
I even learned about Bitcoin in the early days through curiosity, but i just fucked up getting things going, mainly because i ceased to function in 2012.
You see my mind is wandering quite a lot, i am dog tired, trying to get some sleep next.
I'll also skip the haiku today. #GN
I am sure that writing helps. It helps me to come up with some of my own theories that are frequently variations of being taken from someone else, but sometimes I also feel like I come up with some of my own, somewhat seemingly unique angles from time to time... but then sometimes the unique angles seem more unique than they are because there are a lot of people who are somewhat deep into bitcoin and sometimes it cannot be really clear from where they got their bitcoin information and/or theories, even though it might kind of start to bother me when I hear some folks trying to act as if some of the bitcoin theories that they discuss are ones that they came up with on their own when they are largely just variations of other theories that many of us have been hearing batted around for years.
Oh fuck. I hate when I do that. I wrote a whole post, and then I accidentally hit refresh, and that does not work out so well.
We all hate that. You got my sympathy.
Then we should all love this:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=drafts All you have to do is use the preview once in a while during the composition phase and then you wont have to start from scratch.
That's interesting. I don't recall ever seeing that page, and maybe that one would have worked for me if I had previewed the draft before I refreshed it..
What are you here for, then?
As already stated, I’m here to expose your lying asses.
Could the underlying question be: “what would it take to get rid of me”?
You are sinking pretty low now.
Why would anyone here give more than a few cursorary shits about getting rid of uie-poo-ie?
you are kind of fun.. at least during the times that you are not too depressed because you cannot pick up any chicks with higher than WB3 scores.
