I knew some things, but for example I did not know that the American army had the intention of dropping the third atomic bomb on Japan, and the first one did the horrors in Hiroshima and brought Japan to its knees.
People like Senator Joseph McCarthy behaved like the worst communists at the time, and those who know history know what I'm talking about.
I lived through that history. During the peak of McCarthyism my parents joked about not sending my older brother to school wearing a red shirt lest we be labeled as communists.
Even in Canada we felt it. Communism and fascism are two sides of the same coin.
I'm glad you're still here to testify, because what the US government was doing back then was no different from what the communists were doing in other countries. Unfortunately, I grew up in the communist regime (Yugoslavia), which left over 1 million victims in over 1000 mass graves during the 45 years of dictator Tito's rule.
The system worked by keeping people constantly in fear of internal and external enemies, and every person was obliged to report anyone who behaved suspiciously. It went so far that people were caught in the streets and asked to give away anything and anyone, and to save their lives people accused anyone.
I remember some people who were patriotic and spoke against the regime, to this day they still haven't been found. Unfortunately, parts of that monstrous apparatus still live in the shadows, and every year the executioners gather in the house where Tito was born and celebrate his achievements. Communism and its ideas are still very much alive in Europe, today they are just promoting them through some other agendas.
