OT:
The trial today was interesting. Mr. scammer and his accomplice wife are going to be arrested for 2-4 years. I didn't stay until the final ruling, but i can browse the documentation online in a couple of days. Sadly, they got children, but this is a reason for the wife to get away with house arrest.
Nope, just a quick update to my post from earlier this day. It was about an ill horse that was sold to me, which was actually stolen. And i'm not the only victim, as i found out later. The horse is fine now, but the scammer got prosecuted. Short version. It's not in the news, but the country i live in offers public documentation of all legal proceedings and trials (except civil law).
OOM - Since the horse was originally stolen and then sold to you, are you somehow able to keep it now as its legitimate owner?
Was the scammer and his wife prosecuted for your case along with the other victim(s) in the same ruling or just for your one individual case? Is the horse used for show or breeding or a work horse? I'm glad the horse is healthy now, maybe with your help an attention.
my guess based on USA law is the original owner gets the horse 🐎 back.
oom gets money from the thief to pay for the loss.
but oom would be free to cut a deal with the original owner if the original owner wants to.
but countries vary.
also someone nursed the horse back to health which could complicate things a bit.
In detail: We (me + wife) were looking after the name of the horse on the internet, just out of curiosity. We found photos (she was a competition winner), name and photos of the real owner and also a posting on her facebook page that the horse was missing. We contacted her and she was glad that we have relieved her sorrows and ended the uncertainties about the fate of her horse. She said she was happy that the horse was alive and that she has a good home, which was all she wanted. My wife and her also became friends in the process. The horse was stolen in a way that the scammer claimed to run a sanctuary for horses and would take care of the horse for free and the owner could visit her anytime. She rang him up a few times and he assured her that the horse is doing fine. Then she came for a visit and he denied entry to the farm. At this time the horse was already sold. The owner didn't see the horse by the other horses on the paddocks and then she was researching and found the group where all the other victims have come together. Some of the horses, mainly very old and very ill ones, were brought straight to the slaughterhouse, the ones that were in better condition have been sold after the scammer managed to temporarily hide signs of sickness. In my case, it was chronic inflammation of the hoofs that was only showing in winter, but the horse always avoided to gallop and stepping on hard grounds (asphalt, concrete, rock), even in summer.
The whole story is a bit complicated, i am also not doing good in concentrating and i'm also lacking a bit of eloquence, since i had my last Muscimol dose yesterday. But in short, the original owner gave us the horse for free. From then on she finally could really come for a visit whenever she wanted, even when we'd not be at home.
We cured the hoof inflammations using Nattokinase and gaiters made from llama-wool socks, because the anti-inflammatory drugs that the vet gave me would have done some harm over time and also sedated the horse too much.
The scammer was insisting that the owner sold the horse to him and she didn't want a receipt. That was also subject of yesterday's trial, where the owner had a short video-interview by the judge in a separate room in court, because the scammer has threatened her in the past, so she was very anxious about having to stay in the same room with him.
As for getting money back from the scammer: He officially has no belongings, as does his wife. There is a long list of debtees and they probably never get any compensation. The scammer also never paid a cent of taxes. I don't care. The horse is safe and sound, that's the important thing.
Hoping his broken hip heals well.
broken hips are no joke. its likely to be a long recovery. make sure he really takes the physical therapy seriously.
Hips and shoulders, while shoulders are unlikely to be restored to fully function with age.
For example, two of my skateboard friends from the old days who are still rolling, have both got hip implants at age 46 (twins, actually). They said it takes a few months and good physio effort and then the hips are like new. I'm not sure if healing is the same when you're about 30 years older.

We've avoided another one - or has he avoided us? Whatever it is, it's over and I hope it doesn't come back anytime soon. Astronauts on the ISS had a phenomenal view.
Chances of a hit are pretty low. There are lots of known objects within the solar system, and occasional guests from within the milky way, like atlas. Those mostly come back, but typically after hundreds of years if they haven't been broken down or changed their path due to collisions. Space is unbelievably wide. The sun is 8 minutes of lightspeed away.
I would have liked to get a shot of Atlas this fall, when it was close to the sun, which gives it a long, greenish tail. But at the latitude my observatory is, it was only visible near horizon around beginning and end of night, so most of the time it would have been visible under dark skies it would have been covered by mountains, hills or trees already.
hey guys
i know some folks here some sweet coffee/espresso/etc kit. any recommendations?
looking for fully automatic grind brew clean cycles and ease of maintenance. not concerned about price but not looking for commercial quality either.
currently make french press and pourover and i froth milk on the side.. looking to just hit a button now.
I use DeLonghi machines now since Saeco (Philips) were always a moldy mess to clean after short time of use.
DeLonghi Magnifica system is easy to clean, just take out the press unit when the machine is switched off. Just make sure to thoroughly clean the part where the waste water is collected, each time when emptying the coffee puck box. I use a nylon paintbrush and hot water with a drop of detergent. Takes two minutes to clean it all (try searching on youtube).
This one i am using:
https://www.amazon.com/Delonghi-ECAM22110B-Automatic-Espresso-Cappuccino/dp/B00NE1XBY4I see that the price is $400 lower in the US compared to the EU. Is this a result of the orange man's tarrif-wars?
Got mine for seven years now, one repair of the brewing flask (did it myself) after six years, but it was my own fault, because i was using ground coffee for a while (it has a separate filler opening for it, in case you're out of beans), but it was ground too finely. I just replaced it a week ago with the same model, newer version.
EDIT: I see Bitholder also recommended DeLonghi, but some model with an automatic milk foaming unit. These are not so trivial to keep clean. I always make the foam manually, and the foam pipe is easy to disassemble and clean (three parts). Takes me a minute using a wet, hot cloth and a drop of soap and a small "bottle brush", the one that is used to clean steel strawls.
EDIT2: Last post today, exhausted and tired. Go skiing for a day with three kids/teens having ADHD and you know how i feel
