There is no perfect version of democracy.
Wrong. Democracy is perfect, it’s ideal, an ideal state - thus it cannot exist (for long). Or better, when it does come about - it shares the same properties as antimatter - poof and it’s gone. When you talk about “versions” of democracy, that’s not democracy - that’s something else. And even then democracy is flawed, because the public opinion can be (and will be) manipulated.
So that’s not democracy then - it’s technocracy, oligarchy or damn right totalitarian tyranny. More in my upcoming book “Democracy for a second, idiocracy for ever”, where I discuss that there is no such thing as democracy, never has been and never will be. Gods decide, plebs obey - end of story. Fun fact: Bezos is bound to be a god, dunno, in a few thousand years.
Given the whole state of affairs it could have been much worse - perhaps somewhere in 2023 when Blackrock started promoting bitcoin rather than directly fighting it, the outward battle of bitcoin with status quo powers that be shifted from the powers that be fighting against bitcoin and into a phase in which co-optation became the new objective.
Really? Have to say, let’s hope they don’t run it completely to the ground - before it is “fully adopted”.

When you talk about “versions” of democracy, that’s not democracy - that’s something else. I can understand your view on the matter (or, problem?). These "versions" i was talking about are actually what you mean by "not democracy", if you base democracy on a state instead of a development/process. We're seeing things the same, but in different frameworks. So we (seem to) say different things, but at the same time we don't really (seem to) differ.
The title is great, imo, because the idiot is the weakest link in the democratic chain. And today's "gods" are pretty busy to generate a lot more idiots. Fun fact: Bezos is bound to be a god, dunno, in a few thousand years.
I don't really know Bezos and i never even think about him, but only Keith Richards* seems to be bound to still live in a few thousand years, unless he doesn't mess with Chuck Norris** in an unhealthy way. * inside joke ** another inside joke Yeah, I feel like a lot of my apocalyptic lunatic rambling might be nice as a little side show when people are discussing actual useful topics, but currently...

Luke et al seem to be exaggerating (delusional about) their level of support.
Yes, most of the knots nodes are newly spun fake nodes. They are not nodes that were running Bitcoin Core for a long time and switched. Luckily this can be easily tracked in a fairly objective way. One would have to run fake nodes for many years and spend a lot of money to have a more credible manipulation going on where it would seem that many old nodes started running Bitcoin Core. Very few entities would be willing to spend this kind of money. You are correct that it would be a form of speech, and if people are complaining about one form of speech versus another form of speech, then that would be just various forms of speech counteracting other forms of speech. There could be some self-censoring going on with certain kinds of speech, yet censorship from a legal standpoint tends to need government action in order to constitute censorship, yet we know how, in recent times, governments sometimes will get their wishes carried out through private actors (or forums), so then it can sometimes be more difficult to trace the government conduct that would be needed as one of the elements to show censorship.
I would imagine that Hitler salutes have inflammatory connotations, so you might have difficulties doing them out in pubic without getting backlash from people who see it. In private contexts they could be gotten away with, yet what would the person be wanting to signal with such salute? Hitler was right? or something else? We have quite a few topic areas that might be challenging to get away with taking certain stances, and some folks do engage in certain kinds of speech merely for the shock value, which may well be an acceptable form of speech.
Every behavior we demonize because someone evil used it is a loss that increases censorship. If you think about it just remove Hitler from history, what is that hand movement then? A normal hand movement like any other, but now you should not use it under any circumstances and in some countries you may even get into legal trouble if you use it even if you are not interested in Nazis at all. I fear for a future where more and more behaviors and speech is criminalized, look also at the UK these days. Terrible.. If you vote 2 things happen: 1. You help legitimize the political system through increasing turnout rates 2. You are responsible for the actions of the politicians who's right to rule you helped legitimize As such I have never voted and consider those that do within an unacceptable political system retarded. You can't vote what the government should do or not. Major flaw.
Direct democracy is what you are looking for. The only place that gets close to that is Switzerland. I have not voted for similar reasons for decades. It seems that almost all people that are involved with these things are either already corrupt or corruptible, so whatever way you vote they are going to abuse it as much as possible. Besides the direct democracy thing, as long as people are not held directly accountable while in politics this is a very bad system. Some people say that they will lose votes if they act wrong, but that is not really being held accountable..

EDIT: Heavy, wet, or light snow (powder), or that deep frozen stuff that makes that creaking kind of noise at every footstep? 11 inches powder but at the end switched to sleet . fortunately i shoveled most of it as powder. then the snow plow came by buried the driveway exit with a 3 foot by 3 foot pile which got slicked down by the sleet and was a mofo to do. of course i was not able to fix the snow blower so old school shovels ugg.

Powder is rare hereabouts, and we usually get up to 7 inches per day. 10+ every few years, but the intervals are increasing. That snow plow problem... Same here. And it always comes after the driveway has been freed of snow. Shoveling sleet is like (light) power lifting to me. But it started to hurt my knees a bit, lately. Two more days and i'll be shoveling again, too.

Hey phil, consider having your new bud drop over to help you. Just a pm away, after all, it is your b-day. Word on the street is that he can blow and shove!
Can’t wait for the relief pump after the US discloses that it has in it’s custody the coins of Maduro. After all, that’s why they flash invaded Venezuela right? Fucking brilliant. Who’s next? Bukele is not an option.
