Yeah, I don't begrudge anyone the enjoyment of alcohol, but there is no doubt it's one of the most dangerous substances mankind has tangled with. It's interesting that it's so intertwined with our culture though, all of our cultures really. I mean, Jesus' first miracle is said to have been making wine for a party that had run out. (there are a lot of other fun details about this story that people often miss, but another time.)

And I have known many people who have been able to enjoy it within the boundaries of some safety.
Yeah the knowledge used to be that a small amount is even good for you, but it has been updated in recent times. No amount is good and any amount increases risk over baseline. But yeah it is quite intertwined in cultures almost everywhere really.

Wholemeal bread is still carbs -- not much different than white bread. Better in fiber and vitamin content, but don't be fooled that it's way better.

They put caramel coloring in white flour to make the bread look brown (placebo psychology trick). This is not real wholemeal bread, it's brown-painted white bread.

Alcohol = BAD (despite my username!) -- I rarely drink, and if I do it will be a beer with friends. No alcoholic drinks at home.

Self-Custody is a right. Say no to "non-custodial"

I'm lucky that I don't like pasta or bread, lived on steak and potatoes and salad most of my life and when I get offered desert I say I just had it. Smiley
Depends a lot on how you eat them and how much you eat them. In many cases potatoes can be worse than bread. What is considered bread is a very wide spectrum ranging from extremely unhealthy to quite healthy.

Pray tell.

For a diabetic beer is terrible due to carb content.

As for flour it is terrible for me.

Including whole wheat.

Yes, it's true. Try to avoid them.

Bread is considered a staple food in almost all parts of the world, and has fed the population in times of hunger, war and disaster, but wheat is actually not a good food source. Prehistoric humans did not have the means to grind wheat to make flour. They ate mostly meat, nuts, seeds, leaves and fruits. Wheat/bread/pasta is incompatible with our millions of years of evolution, as is sugar, beer and many other foods we eat/drink today.

California introducing mandatory os-level age verification in 2027.
Colorado in the process of following up by 2028.

It`s in order to protect the kids.

Update:

https://xcancel.com/Pirat_Nation/status/2046167238693233005#m

"Congress has introduced a new bill that could change how every phone, laptop, and tablet works in the US.

The Parents Decide Act would require companies like Apple, Google, and Microsoft to collect your exact date of birth before you can set up or use the device.

If you are under 18, a parent or guardian would need to verify it.

The operating system would then let apps check your age to restrict content or require approval."

And:

https://xcancel.com/Pirat_Nation/status/2046270699074179476#m

"PlayStation has started emailing adult accounts in the UK and Ireland asking them to verify their age.

You scan a QR code with your phone and confirm your age using your mobile number, a government ID, or a quick face scan with a company called Yoti.

It’s optional for now, but from June 2026 you’ll need to do it to use voice chat, text messaging, parties and other communication features.

You can still play games and buy stuff normally if you skip it.

This change is to follow the UK’s Online Safety Act and help “protect” younger players online."

On Yoti:

https://mint-secure.de/dataprotection-it-security-risks-with-ageverificationapp-yoti/

"An investigation from Mint Secure GmbH reveals that one of the leading age verification and age estimation apps “Yoti” is extensively tracking users without consent, likely in violation of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)."

It`s in order to protect the kids.

Linux FTW!

Possibly not, from Fedora and Ubuntu it's already known that they are probably going to comply in one form or another. Pretty sure Debian will follow but I hope Devuan won't care at least.
The only OS I know of that decisively showed the middle finger to this whole BS yet is OpenBSD.

The best way forward for OSS projects is probably to simply ban UK and California residents from using their software. Win-win, the UK and Californian kids stay as safe as possible while the (sane) rest of the world can continue to give a flying fuck.

EDIT: And i recognized that OpenBSD point. I liked it very much until that OpenSSH server backdoor hack (injected via CVS bug).
