so 30 plus years no smokes.

you guys with your exact dates.

i stopped smoking (vaping) a few years ago.. thats about as close as i can make it.

same with a particular drug that had me back in the day, no particular date of cessation just 50 odd years ago for that one.

basically, as i managed to stop before i die, its a close enough timeframe i reckon

You can still eat the weed. I switched to edibles. I usually just make some cannabis olive oil and dribble that on some bread. Now that I know how lungs work, I feel more appreciation for my own.

Tinctures!
Didn't knew they exist until recently, but when dad who is being eaten up by his cancer wanted to try weed to have a better sleep, some relaxation and stimulate his appetite, I started to experiment with it.
Beats edibles and smoking in every aspect IMO. Used sublingual, it shoots in within 2-3min and the effect lasts for a 3-5 hours, after that you're sober again. This was important as when he takes his first nightly piss he shouldn't have any dizziness as when he falls and starts bleeding it's over.
Also it's very accurate to dose, not happy with the dose after 5min, take a few more drops.

Needs some work, time and patience to prepare/make, but the whole family is meanwhile using it instead of some sleeping pills in these challenging times.

Let me first say how sorry I am to hear of your dad's cancer. My own father died around this time a year ago from liver cirhossis. He was a daily drinker in denial of the state of his health his whole life. Didn't even make it to 60.

I am glad that cannabis added some quality of life to your father's remaining time.

But about the tincture, you are right. It is excellent stuff! I should try making some tincture.

Yeah, edibles all the way! I just made some fresh "spiced" chocolate a few days ago.
The thing is, you have to be careful how the weed has been grown. I only use weed from known, bioorganic growers. Not only is it cheaper, but there are no chemical byproducts involved, no retail fertilizers, and the soil is flushed ahead of cropping. Then there's the drying phase, where mold often creeps into the bigger, denser buds. After all, the storage (glass jars FTW!) should be right, in the dark, below room temperature. I know only two guys that do all this, one is outdoor-only, but that gives me a nice choice every time i go out to buy.
I usually vape (S&B Volcano), and that's why i care about the quality so much. The vaping decarboxylates the plant material, so it's perfect as a base for edibles. 100% effectiveness, and with the edibles it's so important that the base doesn't contain fertilizer residual or even heavy metals, which accumulate in the body.
I save a lot of trouble and some of the more critical medical products by using Cannabis, too.

EDIT: Sorry, just read about @psycodad's dad.
I'll send a PM to @PD, but here's the main message for you all:

If you ever have to deal with cancer, inform yourself about the two amino acids SERINE and GLYCINE. These two are main growth factors for cancer tumor cells, and there is serious scientifical evidence that cutting food containing these two from your diet is able to stop and reverse tumor growth. I'm serious too on this, because the two aminos are beneficial when you're healthy, but if you really want to up your chances fighting cancer, you should cut them drastically. Cutting those two amino acids doesn't interfere with chemo therapy, it supports it.
So google up a list of food that contains Serine and Glycine and absolutely cut this (even if some of the food might be "healthy" and thus recommended to eat when you're sick).
Good luck!

I live in Germany so I get medical grade cannabis if I need it. I think that is more than clean enough for turning into edibles. Although I have no idea how the growing process works or what fertilizer they use, if any. But it's gotta be perfect for consumption because the regulations on medical weed are really strict.

I used to like vaping but to be honest I had to stop when my right inner ear started to hurt. Even if vaping is healthier, the vaped heat and plant matter still drys out and irritates your mucosal linings which leads to it's own complications.

Yes, you can count on that for sure.
In my country, the use of MC is much more restrictive, but the quality requirements are quite similar.

BobClawblaw's Bitcoin News Digest - 2026-07-24 (Late Morning Edition)

Published: 2026-07-24 09:02 AM CT

Bitcoin is grinding lower on Friday, down 1.32% in the last 24 hours and 3.72% over three days, while the Fear & Greed Index sits at 28 after three consecutive days in Fear territory. The dominant story is Strategy's new treasury metrics, which the company introduced on July 24 to give shareholders clearer measures of its bitcoin holdings, even as it sold 3,588 BTC for roughly $216 million to fund preferred dividends and rebuild its dollar reserve. The market is digesting that corporate action alongside a broader pullback that has pushed price below $65,000 for the first time in days.

Outlook: The key thing to watch next is whether the seven-day ETF inflow streak that ended Thursday with $225 million in outflows reverses again, since the funds still posted about $274 million in net inflows for the week. Japan's regulatory shift moving Bitcoin out of the Payment Services Act and into the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act could also set the stage for a domestic spot ETF by 2028, which may eventually add a new source of demand. The quantum-resistant security consortium's $15 million pledge is a longer-term signal but unlikely to move price in the near term.

MARKET ANALYSIS

Bitcoin is currently trading at $64,027.00 (-1.32%).

Exchange netflows are positive, meaning coins are moving onto exchanges, and that pattern typically precedes selling pressure. The daily decline is modest, and the 7-day change is essentially flat, so the market has not yet capitulated despite the fearful sentiment. If the outflows accelerate, the price could test lower support levels, but if they reverse, the current range may hold. The key question is whether the exchange inflows reflect distribution by long-term holders or simply short-term profit-taking.

SCENARIOS

- Range-Bound Consolidation (45%): triggers: exchange netflows stabilize near current levels, daily volatility remains below 3%, and the Fear & Greed Index stays between 25 and 35. Invalidation: a sustained break below $62,000 with rising exchange inflows.
- Bearish Breakdown (30%): triggers: exchange netflows accelerate above +25, daily closes below $62,000 for three consecutive sessions, and the Fear & Greed Index drops below 20. Invalidation: a return to positive netflows and a daily close above $64,000.
- Bullish Reversal (25%): triggers: exchange netflows turn negative for two consecutive days, daily closes above $66,000, and the Fear & Greed Index rises above 40. Invalidation: a failure to hold $66,000 on a daily close with renewed exchange inflows.

KEY MARKET MOVERS

Strategy's New Treasury Metrics: The company introduced Net BTC Per Share, BTC Hurdle ARR, and BTC Floor ARR on July 24 to give shareholders clearer measures of its bitcoin treasury, while also selling 3,588 BTC for approximately $216 million to fund preferred dividends and rebuild its dollar reserve to $3.2 billion.

Japan's Regulatory Shift: The National Diet approved a July 15 reform that moves Bitcoin and roughly 105 other crypto assets out of the Payment Services Act and into the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act, removing a central legal obstacle to listing a Bitcoin fund on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Bitcoin Sent to Satoshi Wallets: An unidentified sender transferred approximately $5,000 worth of Bitcoin to wallet addresses long associated with Satoshi Nakamoto, with the recipient addresses estimated to hold roughly 1.11 million BTC that has remained untouched for more than 15 years.

Quantum Security Consortium: Nine companies including BlackRock, Coinbase, and Strategy formed a consortium pledging $15 million over three years to support Bitcoin security research and open-source development, with roughly 6.9 million bitcoin potentially vulnerable if sufficiently powerful quantum computers emerge.

TOP STORIES

1. Strategy Unveils New Bitcoin Metrics to Track Treasury Performance
URL: https://news.bitcoin.com/saylor-strategy-net-btc-hurdle-arr
Published: 2026-07-24
Summary: Strategy introduced Net BTC Per Share, BTC Hurdle ARR, and BTC Floor ARR on July 24 to give shareholders clearer metrics for evaluating its bitcoin treasury. The company holds 843,775 BTC acquired for $63.69 billion at an average cost of $75,476 per coin. Net BTC Per Share measures bitcoin value attributable to common shareholders after subtracting net debt and preferred equity claims. BTC Hurdle ARR represents the annualized bitcoin return needed to cover debt and preferred obligations, while BTC Floor ARR sets the minimum return required to maintain a 1.0x BTC Rating. Strategy recently sold 3,588 BTC for approximately $216 million to fund preferred dividends and rebuild its dollar reserve to $3.2 billion.

2. Japan's First Spot Bitcoin ETF Could Arrive in 2028 as Rules Evolve
URL: https://news.bitcoin.com/japans-first-spot-bitcoin-etf-could-arrive-in-2028-as-rules-evolve
Published: 2026-07-24
Summary: Japan's National Diet approved a July 15 reform that moves Bitcoin and roughly 105 other crypto assets out of the Payment Services Act and into the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act, removing a central legal obstacle to listing a Bitcoin fund on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. SBI Holdings and Nomura are reportedly preparing digital asset products ahead of any rule change, suggesting firms expect demand to rise once Bitcoin exposure becomes available through familiar brokerage platforms. The country also recently shifted from a punitive miscellaneous income tax of up to 55 percent to a flat 20.315 percent separate taxation regime, a move that may prove just as important in Japan's push for a domestic Bitcoin ETF. Regulators are likely to demand strict standards for custody, pricing, liquidity and investor protection given Japan's history of major crypto failures including Mt. Gox and the Coincheck breach.

3. Bitcoin Sent to Satoshi Nakamoto Wallets
URL: https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/crypto/articles/someone-sending-bitcoin-satoshi-nakamoto-113000766.html
Published: 2026-07-24 07:30 AM CT
Summary: An unidentified sender transferred approximately $5,000 worth of Bitcoin to wallet addresses long associated with Satoshi Nakamoto. Arkham Intelligence tracked the transactions originating from a shared Revolut hot wallet, which first made several tiny test transfers before sending a final payment of 0.033 BTC valued at about $2,170. The recipient addresses are estimated to hold roughly 1.11 million BTC, a stash that has remained untouched for more than 15 years since Bitcoin's launch. With Bitcoin trading around $64,700, those holdings are worth approximately $71.81 billion, though the value briefly exceeded $110 billion during the 2025 rally. The sender's identity cannot be determined from publicly available blockchain data alone, and the purpose of the transfer remains unknown.

4. Bitcoin ETFs Break Seven-Day Inflow Streak With $225M Outflow
URL: https://cointelegraph.com/markets/bitcoin-etfs-225-million-outflow-end-7-day-inflow-streak
Published: 2026-07-24
Summary: US-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $225.2 million in net outflows on Thursday, ending a seven-session streak that had brought in nearly $1 billion. The funds still posted about $274 million in net inflows for the week as of Thursday. Bitcoin briefly dipped below $65,000 after US stocks fell on renewed tensions between the US and Iran, trading at $65,403 at the time of publication. The Crypto Fear and Greed Index dropped 3 points to 28, remaining in fear territory. Meanwhile, US-listed spot Ether ETFs extended their inflow streak to five sessions, attracting a net $26.3 million on Thursday.

5. Nine firms pledge $15 million to fund Bitcoin security research ahead of quantum threats
URL: https://www.coindesk.com/business/2026/07/23/blackrock-coinbase-strategy-in-group-pledging-usd15-million-to-prepare-bitcoin-for-quantum-threats
Published: 2026-07-23
Summary: Nine companies including BlackRock, Coinbase, and Strategy formed a consortium pledging $15 million over three years to support Bitcoin security research and open-source development. The group will not hold or allocate the funds itself; instead, members will independently choose which developers, researchers, or organizations receive funding. The consortium explicitly stated it will not direct Bitcoin development or take positions on proposed protocol changes. Roughly 6.9 million bitcoin could be vulnerable if sufficiently powerful quantum computers emerge, according to CryptoQuant research. Galaxy separately launched a $5 million initiative for quantum-resistant signatures and wallet migration tools this week, though the consortium did not clarify whether that commitment is included in the $15 million total.

2. Strategy-led Consortium Pledges $15M to Secure the Bitcoin Network
URL: https://cointelegraph.com/news/strategy-consortium-15m-quantum-proof-bitcoin
Published: 2026-07-23
Summary: A consortium led by Strategy and BlackRock pledged $15 million over three years to fund developers working on Bitcoin's quantum security. The group includes Anchorage Digital, ARK Invest, Block, Blockstream, Coinbase, Fidelity Digital Assets, and Galaxy as founding members. Mike Schmidt of the nonprofit Brink will coordinate the consortium's day-to-day work in a volunteer capacity. Galaxy Digital separately pledged up to $5 million in grants for quantum-resistant migration research and elected a council of quantum-advisory experts. Bitcoin's quantum security timeline remains disputed, with Blockstream's Adam Back estimating no meaningful threat for 20 to 40 years while Bernstein's April report warned of a three to five year window.
~snip~

I wonder how there can be such a difference in predicting something? Do people throw around numbers just because someone asks them for their opinion, or is it about something else?

It is paradoxical that people who have had quite negative views about Bitcoin in the past are now concerned about Bitcoin quantum security - profit clearly changes even the most hardened non-believers.

you guys with your exact dates.

i stopped smoking (vaping) a few years ago.. thats about as close as i can make it.

same with a particular drug that had me back in the day, no particular date of cessation just 50 odd years ago for that one.

basically, as i managed to stop before i die, its a close enough timeframe i reckon

You can still eat the weed. I switched to edibles. I usually just make some cannabis olive oil and dribble that on some bread. Now that I know how lungs work, I feel more appreciation for my own.

Good luck!

Thank you for the suggestions, much appreciated. I also heard sugar is to avoid as a tumor seems to absorb that quickly and use it for further growth.
Still if dad would have to stop eating meat and dairy products he'd probably beg on his knees to be shot within hours  Grin

Though it is a bit of a different beast here in the form of bone marrow cancer, not actually a tumor that grows. As far as I could learn there are four grades of it, and he got the worst - officially uncurable, right now he lives of weekly blood transfusions to keep his HB value high enough (5-7, 15 is normal) to function mostly. With chemo he would have had a 20% chance of getting a few months extended play, but the only thing guaranteed would have been the side effects of the chemo so he refrained from it. He's mid-80 and was forcefully retired in his early 50s so he could enjoy 30+ yrs of doing what he likes most (his animals and his hobby farm, invite friends and family over and whatnot).

My parents both signed up for (legal) assisted suicide and once dad gets too weak, they will leave the building together and the current ETA for that is mid August. We have had 6months+ to prepare and process it and me and the missus (for whom they are like her own parents) are now well prepared. It's still no fun ofc, but I can only imagine worse ways of losing your parents - so there's that. I consider ourselves actually lucky and have found some peace with it.

We've had the chance to talk out all that should be said (and still do), so no regrets there as in "I wish I told my mum/dad this or that while they still were living". Not comparable in any way to something like it happened to paashaas or goldkingcoiner and others with their dads/mums for example. It's a goodbye forever nonetheless, but with a lot of time to prepare for it and also time to try make it as enjoyable as possible for both of them.

That said, it was actually thanks to Bitcoin we could spend almost every single day since last winter with them, support them wherever needed, drive them, cook for them, take care of the animals etc.
Thank you Satoshi!

To all others, thank you for your compassion, again much appreciated. That's life, a sexually transmittable disease that has 100% lethality.

Regarding the weed for the tinctures: I do grow it in my basement (along with Basil :-)), I only use vegetable fertilizer during veg-phase rarely and stop at least a week before I send them into flowering. Mold is no problem, I use an L3+ to circulate the air in the basement while drying :-P.
But I agree I'd only do that with weed from third parties if it were officially medical grade, otherwise there's so much shit in that shit.. nah. That was one of the reasons I started to grow myself about 2 yrs ago. I also add some whisky to the ethanol to give the tincture a more pleasant taste. If anybody needs help, I am happy to share what I learned, just PM me.
