Inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs totaled $1.92 billion this week with much more expected in the coming weeks.
Hey shit for brains, JJG - still think spot Bitcoin ETFs are bad for investors in Bitcoin and diamond-hand hodlers?

Yes to the first one.  Spot bitcoin ETFs are not good for the direct ownership, transfer and self-sovereignty aspects of bitcoin.

Regarding your second point, you sound like a lost lil puppy since there is no such thing as a diamond-hand paper bitcoin holders. You are mixing up your metaphors.

Institutional spot Bitcoin ETF buying may push the price through $80k. Right, JJG?!  Grin

And?  Your point?  You believe that paper bitcoin deserve credit for our current pump in bitcoin price?

Institutional spot Bitcoin ETF buying may push the price through $80k. Right, JJG?!  Grin
Jay's not here.
So, where is the shit-for-brains dirtbag?

You rang?  Do you have any actual substance or just empty baloney?

It's a trap set in motion a long time ago. Many of us drawn to Bitcoin saw it was inevitable. With the most skilled people doing their absolute best, it could possibly have been reversed at some point long ago, maybe. But we never had close to that. If you give people a money printer, they're going to print money. Bitcoin is the first system to embrace and use that.

I might misunderstand your post, yet from my perspective, I consider bitcoin to be the opposite of money printing, so I have some difficulties understanding how bitcoin embraces money printing rather than being a check upon other systems that tolerate a whole hell-of-a-lot of money printing, while bitcoin embraces a fixed supply that is so strict that it does not even have any kind of tail emission.

Sub $60k was the bottom.

Next bull will be more violent than the previous one and we deserve a mesmerizing $300,000 BTC.

x

I understand how $300k might seem like a lot, yet it is merely 140% higher than our 2025 ATH (that currently stands).

From the perspective of this here cat, it is probably more reasonable to consider $300k for a new ATH (within a year or two) as merely within the ballpark of reasonableness rather than being "mesmerizing."

If this pump is just a mix of short squeezes and bear market fatigue, it won't lead to anything. But if big institutional players are buying behind the scenes, hidden from the news for now, this is the end of a 1-year bear market. We should get ready for a rally that could last until mid-December 2026. I have that gut feeling that last week's crazy run was no accident. That gut feeling I had in October 2017 and 2020. So my SOMA prediction is 20 weeks of pumps that will lead to a short-lived ATH between 250K and 300K. And this is my pessimistic guess. Again, this is not a chart speculation, this is a hunch that some big news will hit the market soon.
nah this is just cryptobros pumping for the USA midterm election money machine. they need to pump up for donations gifts dropping on floor the tips, yeah tips
Since the big players joined the game, nothing is accident, Bitcoin serves them to make big profits in a very short time - and if you can buy public favor with anything, it's with a lot of money. I have nothing against your version of events, but x3 or x4 seems overly optimistic for such a short period of time.

My own sense of the BIG players getting their way in bitcoin price manipulation is that, if they were to have their way, we would still be stuck below $500 forever and ever and ever.  So accordingly, there are a sufficient quantity of meaningful times that such BIGGER do not end up getting their way and they just have to go with bitcoin's UPpity price direction and act as if it had been their idea all along.

Yeah, sure, with the passage of time there has developed and come into the space more and more tools to manipulate bitcoin prices, and the manipulators have gotten bigger and BIGger and BIGGER, yet it still does not result in manipulating twats being able to completely get their way in bitcoin's price direction including its ongoingly going up against their set of preferences.

@willywoo
It's almost been a decade since the last time this happened...

The last time BTC decoupled from stocks to this degree was 2015 (prelude to the 2017 bull market).

https://x.com/willywoo/status/2096581714797895823

@willywoo
2014: Stocks remained bullish while BTC suffered an uncorrelated bear market.

2015-2016: Equities chopped bearish for 2 years while BTC engaged bull mode, then mooning in 2017 when equities aligned bullish.

IMO the setup looks similar... BTC liquidity continues to strengthen, while equities starting to show signs of fragility.

The thing is, they didn't think Bitcoin would ever be worth even 10% of what it is today, so they had no chance of keeping the price below $500 - and maybe they were hoping all along that it would all collapse until they got a big slap somewhere in the second half of 2017. Even then, we didn't see institutional players taking BTC seriously - and if we look back in 2020, Saylor appeared with his big investment and the whole story took on a new dimension with, of course, the case of El Salvador as the first Bitcoin country in the world.

Without insight into the background, it is impossible to say how important a factor spot BTC ETFs are in price formation, but the fact is that inflows have a positive impact on the price while outflows have a negative one. Of course, all this can result in the liquidation of short/long positions, which again have effect on the price.

It's a mess. I think the U.S. has most certainly been taken advantage of by almost all of our trading partners for some time. But this is our own fault. We hold the money printer for the world still, barely.  And I'm actually glad that we're finally doing something about it.

Holy fucking shit, cAPSLOCK.  You too.

You really believe that the US of A is some kind of a victim in the whole scheme of worldly monetary balances?

Surely perhaps some imbalances have likely existed and got out of hand, yet it seems difficult to consider the US of A as some kind of a victim, especially when it has always had a considerable amount of power at any international negotiating table, to the extent that it choose to exert it or to the extent that it was sufficiently focused on trying to "do anything" about any perceived imbalances that might have had existed at various points in time.

In one sense, since whiny-ass Trump came onto the scene, especially this last time around in 2024/2025, surely there could have had been some good ideas in some various aspects of what he had been doing or attempting to do, yet at the same time, shock doctrine policy approaches perceive "emergency needs" to take drastic measures which rarely are going to be just in the various impacts and even granted if the various impacts had been sufficiently thought through.

Crazy numbers.

Surely River is good at giving rationale for how it arrives at its various inferred numbers, even though  it really cannot be known with any level of certainty.

The estimate that 1 out of 1 million people in the world supposedly hold between 100 BTC and 1,000 BTC stands out, since it is kind of easy estimated number to remember.

has anyone heard from JJG?

or is he dark since the 17th of August?
Maybe the man went on vacation? I just hope he didn't choose Nepal, because a lot of foreign nationals lost their lives in that tragedy.

Surely a lot of folks were injured, died and went missing in the Nepal floods (something like 15k people impacted in fairly serious ways), yet still, it seems like quite longshot odds that I would have had been involved in something like that even if it did happen to quite a few folks, locally, but world-wide it has quite low odds.  I did a quickie calculation in regards to the number of world-wide peeps impacted and the world's population, and less than 1 in 500k, or maybe less than 2 in 1 million?  No?

[edited out]
well fuckkkkkkk you.
now that we are past that here goes.

there will always be a 4 year cycle for coins being issued
2028  3.125/2 =      1.5625
2032  1.5625/2=     0.78125
2036  0.78125/2=   0.390625
2040  0.390625/2= 0.1953125

so that cycle is set in stone until we tail end the lost 1/2 ing coins which many people hate me for talking about it but I see it as certain.

You are describing something that has to be changed (to create tail emissions) as if it has to be done in order to save bitcoin, and you have hardly no fucking clue about a large number of factors except some expectation based on your likely wrong perception about what "money" has to be, and bitcoin is already not designed in the way that you are proclaiming that it has to be changed "in order to work."

No wonder "people hate you for talking about it," when you are making such a ludicrous statement as if it were a certainty (which is not outside of your historical patterns - it just seems to be a character flaw that you have or something...    Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy - no homo)

so I would say we will have coin production 4 year cycle for a minimum of 2028-2040
I would also say that price cycle of 4 years altered when we hit an ATH prior to 2024 1/2ing ie 70k in march 2024 broke the prior 4 year price cycle

ar at least accelerated to a short time frame which means under 4 years time for the ATH and for the DUMP

which both happened.

There seems to be nothing wrong with recognizing that deviations from the 4-year cycle can, yet at the same time not really breaking the 4-year cycle.  At the same time, the extent to which there might be deviations at various points along the way may well have impacts further down the line, yet there could also be some reversion to the mean in terms of the deviations merely appearing as aberrations that had ended up playing out without having any meaningful impact on the overall pattern.  In other words there can be dangers to read too much meaning into what appears to be deviations, even though later down the road such deviations might end up having more meaning than what we had initially considered them to have.

BITCOIN IS SERIOUSLY LAGGING BEHIND STOCKS.
The S&P 500 and Nasdaq have already pushed back toward record highs.
Bitcoin is still trading around $80,000 after a brutal correction.

This divergence won't last forever.
If Bitcoin starts playing catch-up, the move could be explosive.

I am having some difficulties understanding how comparing bitcoin to the S&P 500 over a 1.5 year-ish period has any kind of meaning in terms of long term bitcoin fundamentals as compared with merely trying to guess which way the price might go with an attempt to try to place higher odds for one price direction as compared with another price direction, at least in the short-term.

Again.  Your discussion largely comes off as noise and distractions to many guys who are merely erroring on the side of accumulating and holding their bitcoin, rather than fucking around trying to trade  - especially when bitcoin ongoingly seems to have such great investment potential for 4-10 years or longer and even surely guys likely should be establishing 10-year or longer investment time horizons for both building up their bitcoin holdings and/or erroring on the side of holding it, unless they, perhaps, might have some age/health consideration that does not allow them to maintain a 10-year or longer timeline or maybe alternatively if they had been able to greatly front load their bitcoin investment.

Many normies are not really able to frontload their bitcoin investment so it seems better to refer to the situations of more common guys rather than referring to those guys who have more options that may involve having abilities to frontload their bitcoin investment.

Fair point on the long term timeline JJG. Short term charts are just dynamic snapshots for fun and observation, not a replacement for 4-10 year stacking. Hodling and accumulating is still the ultimate plan.

I don't have any difficulties understanding...  People who sold the Bitcoin top then bought the S&P 500 are up substantially over the people who ignored the 4-year cycle and decided to hold through a >50% drawdown.  The denial of this fact by the people who argued against selling the top is the only thing that puzzles me.  Especially in a BTC/USD speculation thread.  There really should be a BTC stacking thread for the folks who want to stay in up-only mode at the top of the 4-year cycle.  I guess the only problem with that is the people who rage against those who sold the top sell part of their stack annually and never replace it, so not even a stacking thread would be appropriate for whatever it is they think they're doing.

Let's see if i sold1 btc at 36k base for 126k

My profit would be 90k if usa tax payer. I could owe 30k which I pay.

So 126k-30k is 96k

I park it at 4% and 11 months later I have almost 100k

With maybe 1 k tax owed on the 4k interest. I compare to the guy that held the 1 btc

And he has 80k and he has 44k profit to be taxed if he cashs.

So  og was correct to sell it at 126k

Yea og

My sale was at $117K. I did not manage to sell any in the 120s I don’t think.

Your scenario also doesn’t count that a single filer investor can get $49,450 in tax free long term capital gains per year. That makes a significant difference. Then there’s the S&P performance since then, or the 6% interest currently available on cash, or if you use that income to buy the bottom…
