A bloodbath in global assets of all kind today. Not great news to see how bad things are getting economically around the world. At least it seems like this is going to lead to an end of the Iran and possibly Ukraine wars. If that happened and we got those $5,000 checks, it would be off to the races again.

I would love for either of these to be true, but I don't think they will be.

As to the wars, they're not fighting the wars, they're telling us they're fighting. Not even what either side is saying, since we're getting at least two narratives for each of the major fronts that we're in right now. 

The United States is strangling energy production in the entire Eastern Hemisphere.  Ukrainian drones are bombing refineries in Russia, while the Strait of Hormuz is all but shut down.  Remember the gas pipeline? Who was it to blew that up again?

It won't be over till it's over, but it could get a lot worse from here.

As to those $5,000 checks, I would be gobsmacked if the right kept control of both houses.

No way.

Everyone on the left is going to vote against it. Probably more than half of Gen Z is going to vote against it.  I would imagine the Hispanic vote for the right is decimated.  And a lot of sensible people on the right feel betrayed by this administration. And they'll just stay home. 

Enough people will feel like a deadlock is better than the situation we're in now. There's no way those $5,000 checks are coming. (at least not via both houses being kept. I suppose they could change the rules as usual.)

I would love to be wrong and not for the $5,000 either. 😁

It's all about the energy and the money.  And it's an interesting gambit, honestly.  I'm not sure if this is the first war being waged with the Secretary of the Treasury basically being in control of an entire portion of it.  You could say he's actually the general of this one.

There is real fighting going on. Lots of people are dying. It is terrible and should be stopped immediately.

I think the economic situation is going to get so bad globally that ending the wars is not a choice, but a necessity for everyone involved. In that scenario, it would be political suicide for democrats to vote against $5,000 stimulus checks. We’ll see what happens, but we’re 25 years into this bad news is good news economy due to the expectation of government intervention in markets and the bad news is piling up fast…

Exchange reserve supply has plummeted in the past 24 hours from 2,726,000 to 2,707,000

Even though you are trying to be dramatic about it and even show a graph that seems to support your having had been dramatic, I would hardly characterize a 0.7% drop as plummeting.  Note 0.7% is less than 1%... so how the fuck is that "plummeting" except if you are a wee bit delusional, yourself.

Is plummeting still a thing in 2026?

Maybe it will be skyrocketing to 2,727.000 soon again? 

For sure with these kinds of claims about exchange reserves, we likely have to zoom out a wee bit to really try to figure out trends, and frequently we could still get mislead by such data, even if we might be able to get an accurate picture of it, since for sure as the price goes up, then there may well be some on chain bitcoin holders who purposefully move coins to exchanges in order to sell them and the opposite is true if the price is going down, there may well be some folks moving coins off of the exchange since overall they do not plan to sell such coins in periods in which the BTC price is going down... so no matter what BTC on exchanges is a moving factor that likely has to be considered with other data, and even if we couple the bitcoins on exchanges information with other information, we still might not be able to make any profound observations (such as "supply shock") based on our being in possession of seemingly accurate data in that direction.

 I don't know if I've been living under a rock or my lack of TV watching is affecting my ability to keep up with the latest trends but last night I was at the store looking for sauerkraut when I stumbled upon KD Extra Spicy ramen!  I had to look it up on my phone and there are three versions of varying spiciness - the store I was at only had the hottest one left so I'm assuming it must be too hot for me as well if other Canadians aren't buying it.  The youngest brought home some Samyang Buldak spicy ramen to try one day; that almost killed me and just thinking about it now made me start sweating.  Anyway, if we can maintain this tiny leg up, maybe I can afford to try just one of those new KD ramen.

It is a Trump thing so the democrats will, of course, be in lockstep against it regardless of the facts on the ground. Not that I'm a fan of it myself. Such things tend to end up in the pockets of Korean television manufacturers.

Apparently, AI can make a good release - or is it a good record? What do they call it today? Maybe a great one.

Some author made this distinction: "Shock the Monkey" is a great record, "New York State of Mind" is a great song.

The interesting question for me is: can AI make a great song today? How about in one year or two?

It can generate endless catchy records by analyzing patterns, but a great song comes from lived experience.

AI can simulate the syntax of heartbreak or inspiration, but without the lived context, it is just high-end noise.
