2. El Salvador's $666 million Bitcoin reserve survives IMF review
URL: https://cryptoslate.com/el-salvadors-666-million-bitcoin-reserve-survives-imf-review
Published: 2026-10-04 07:00 PM CT
Summary: The International Monetary Fund approved a $138 million disbursement to El Salvador after completing its second and third loan program reviews. The IMF granted waivers for missed performance criteria related to Bitcoin accumulation, allowing financing to continue despite earlier breaches. El Salvador currently holds approximately 7,794.37 Bitcoin, valued at roughly $666.1 million. The agreement prohibits further state-funded Bitcoin purchases, limiting reserve growth to documented donations. Future reviews will depend on the government's ability to improve transparency regarding public-sector crypto holdings and fully unwind its involvement with the Chivo wallet.

Does this literally mean that El Salvador is no longer allowed to buy BTC and what would "documented donations" mean in this case? I may be wrong, but the IMF literally says, "you are not allowed to buy BTC using government money, but if someone donates it to you then it's OK".

Somehow it doesn't seem to me that anyone will just donate coins, but that maybe Bukele will find a way to present new investments in BTC as donations.

Here's a crowd of, um, btc donors in El Salvador watching, um, someone purchasing, um, something.

Self-Custody is a right. Say no to "non-custodial"

I can only read the beginning. I think we oldtimers are not in the same position she is in obviously, but I was OK with it, until I read she was counting on BTC to retire in a couple of years and had started buying at 104K.

Yeah, lady, that will probably not happen. Also, "never selling" and "living off BTC in a couple of years" isn't really compatible.
you are correct, she is different from us, but at least she is investing. (the article is just exaggerated)  Cheesy
OG's are here, our methods are different from hers.
She does not HODL  Sad

Are you just making shit up @stadus?

Maybe I did not read the article closely enough, yet I have some difficulties recognizing/appreciating how we would have enough details about the situation of that 47 year old woman to proclaim that she is different from any of us?

Of course, there can be timing, and when anyone gets into bitcoin sooner rather than later, they have advantages based on their timing, yet even some early comers to bitcoin ended up screwing things up, and the screw ups could end up coming in various ways that might involve being too whimpy or being too aggressive in terms of bitcoin accumulation practices and/or their cashflow management practices.

Sure there could be some luck too in terms of recognizing bitcoin in such a way that contributes towards the taking of action to accumulate bitcoin rather than just "monitoring the situation."

Meanwhile, we're back over 86k. Is she waking up?
We have been there last month as well.
The Uptober should be enough to break 90K. If you check the history, this should be possible.

How can you determine from "squigglies" that momentum is enough for dee cornz to go up from here?  You are basing it on which month of the year that we happen to be on a calendar?

Sure, I am not going to lie.  At the moment, my own tinglies are not absent, yet even if I am feeling like we have momentum and the chances of UPpity remain reasonably good, I have difficulties bringing myself to consider my tinglies as if they were anymore than 60% certain, and even that level of SOMA confidence might be too much since I have even gained enough confidence to personally assess that "the bear market is over."

Sure, it feels like the bear market is over, but still.. $90K, $100k?  I am not sure if I could really feel comfortable coming to some kind of a bear market is over assessment when we have not even touched upon those two seemingly arbitrary marking points.

[edited out]
57k to 462k
is good

but maybe a bit short to say it was like the 1k to 19k move
still If we move to 462k quickly we would likely be happy

Golly gee whiz Wally.

You believe that there is a need to achieve a 19x appreciation of the BTC price in order to proclaim that our BTC price move is 2017-like?

I can see that you are hedging with the "quickly" comment, but still.

From my assessment of the matter, you seem to be playing quite a bit (maybe even BIGgedly) harder to get than this here cat.

btc is 85.6k and there is very little interest here.
This tell me that, when FOMO comes, it would be a mighty wave, imho.

Surely sounds like a SOMA perspective, including questions in regards to how such a thing might end up playing out...?

Historically, we have had seemingly gradual inching up of the BTC price that had tended to get more and more momentum, yet at the same time, the UPpity patterns never really seem to be in an arrangement that they can be predicted, since sometimes the momentum ends up stopping, and then we end up getting stuck in some "less than expected" range for a period that ends up being "longer than expected," so yeah, it tends to be difficult to really know how much the major corrections are no longer going to be present, and then a kind of step-laddering effects ends up resulting - yet many of us likely know that through the years, there has tended to be a certain advantage in already being prepared for UP, even if we have hardly any clue about whether or even how much it might end up playing out.

Observing...6 buddy posts and none from the claw..is it sleeping or what?

I see no advantage in having one bot block another bot, yet there do tend to be advantages, when various random peeps of dee real worlds chime into this here thread, even if potentially real peeps might have not chimed into these here parts for some time...  . .not that I am getting bored with any regular poster in particular, especially the ones who either have real world observations or theories (whether right or not) coming out of their ponderings.. and yeah boredom with the price happens to be a pondering that guys will post from time to time, which also tends to be less than substantive, even though it seems to be capturing the feewings of a real peep.. . ...

And, yeah, bot interactions are not too thrilling to get the juices (and perhaps tinglies) flowing for this here cat wannabe...

....speaking of which.. ..

Calling out for dee one and only... ToxicMoxic!!!!!  seemingly absent from his station... what you doing watching rockets blowing up?  There can't be too many rockets in recent times, or are there? and "we" just don't know about them in these here parts?

Anywhoooo (didn't jbreher used to like to say that? when he was mixing in his bcash pumpenings.. not that I miss those kinds of shitcoining perspectives too much.. even though he surely seemed to be a real peep, which is a bonus.. )..

Back to ToxicMoxic...

Any catterburytales, in recent times?  Give us a belated or maybe even an early Caturday report, so we can better come to realize which Ichimoku shadows or clouds are preventing or facilitating the rise or fall of dee cornz in the woo woo lands of squigglie wigglies?

Go on then!!!!  I say ToxicMoxic into the mirror three times.
