It would be more accurate and correct if you wrote "The White House plans to buy Bitcoin for strategic reserves for the first time," because they haven't bought anything so far.
They have Bitcoin in the reserve already. Any purchase would be adding more to it. Not reinventing the wheel here… ~snip~ For me, there is a big difference between "buying" and "taking" from someone. The US has its coins exclusively thanks to seizures, and I have no doubt that their amount will only grow without a single cent invested. Once again I ask the question "why spend money on something if you can get it completely free?" Asset forfeitures go back into the justice system to fund the machine, there is a considerable expense for investigations to get to the point of asset forfeiture, and also for the subsequent legal wranglings. If the seized bitcoin don't enter that cycle, money would have to come from other sources to keep the machine operating. Those forfeitures fund local police departments and sustain a victim compensation fund as well. They may be slightly discounted in some cases but they aren't completely free. I know... tomato, tomawto

I have a buddy that got busted for weed a few years ago. the NJ state government grabbed 3 coins from him. maybe 3x1k at the time or 51k. They spent far more than 51k to catch him. Plus they raided his house when it had 1.1 oz of pot the least amount he had in the least year. He lost the weed the coins and his drivers license . They state sold the coins for 47k. A lot of USA coins grabbed by feds are the result of large expense operations. Oh pot is fully legal in the State of NJ. and if my friend was to get a lawyer and pay about 20k he would be able to drive again and he would be able to open a pot store to help make up for the dumb ass shit the government did to him. Apologies. I broke the new rule I made a while ago to finish reading the new posts before dropping replies. Dammit! Sorry.

Not to mention, any humans or lifeforms that happen to be under those thrusters when activated, is gonna die a terrible death.
I don't think it will ever get the OK for human transportation on ordinary roads. I don't even want to think about energetic efficiency. Lift 2+ tons for a 5% payload? It looks like a gimmick. Ken Olsen in 1977 said that " There is no reason for any individual to have a computer in their home". We can't predict how things will evolve in future.

What I don't get: was pot legal back when they did him? If it was, what did they have (or thought they had) him for?

I agree in general. But I think there are likely to be some applications for this tech which aren't immediately obvious. Interestingly, Musk said that this was going to be for manual driving. I don't see how it would work without a lot of computer input.

Tech companies that are in kahoots with each other, are making moves to render new PC's unaffordable for most folks. RAM is fucking insane, and so is storage. Same for GPU's. One could predict that these companies, whom will love that Ken Olsen quote, are going to evolve into pushing the masses into renting cloud compute, instead of owning their own hardware.
"Flying car" makes me yawn. We do not have infrastructure for many to use them, and definitely not legislation/regulation in place to let the 16 year-old trust fund kids with no regard for safety take them for a spin. Sticking to the floor using the suction is cool, though.

One could predict that these companies, whom will love that Ken Olsen quote, are going to evolve into pushing the masses into renting cloud compute, instead of owning their own hardware. It's a temporary problem. China is going to boost ram production so much in the coming years, that computers in the home will become affordable again, probably around 2031, or maybe not... We'll have to see. I do expect the next 20 years to separate the haves and the have nots in ways most aren't expecting. There will be those with their own Robotaxi fleets and flying cars, and there will be those who pay for rides. There will be those who have mini-datacenters in their homes that make money selling compute, and there will be those who buy compute to run their lives. There will be those who have solar energy and battery backups, and those who go to bed early because they can't afford to pay for light. I'd keep an eye on the situation and make sure your family is one of the haves. As soon as people start giving up computers and their vehicles...

My personal predictions are... price to take out liquidity which is at that 75k and after liquidity has been taken out I expect higher prices and a break of that 86-90k resistance.
But for now price is still at 81k, and is moving on a down trend
Oh? Personal prediction. Down before up, you say? Anything between about $70k-ish and $92k-ish seems like noise, even though surely getting down to $70k would likely be quite depressing for a lot of the longer term bitcoin holders who seem to be ready for up and not very interested in down (present company - royal - included). For the WO Gang, I hope it brings back moments (and pictures) you remember, and a few you had completely forgotten.
I have a wee bit of trouble figuring out how you would be able to meaningfully recover some of the historical pictures, since it seems that so many of them are either gone or out of context (laborious to place as compared with just being able to browse through thread posts - and yeah, currently few pictures and difficulties to easily get the sentiments, when the pictures are mostly not there).
Once again I ask the question "why spend money on something if you can get it completely free?"There likely quite a few of the regular WO members who are similarly jaded as you, @Lucius - and for sure, many of us recognize that governments end up sinking to quite extreme forms of theft/robbery in their supposed "acting in the interests of 'the people.' " Some folks seem to also become deluded into thinking that their "interests are represented" so long as "their guy" is doing the robbing - a weird perspective, but, of course, such perspectives exist. [edited out]
