Is this the new rise of the meme coins? It seems we've run out of innovation lately and I see 3 or 4 new meme and supposed amusing reasons to create a CC.

Not bad I guess perhaps the general public will be drawn in through fun and cool factor. Who's on pepe train? Not me sadly should have listened but thought it looked like a load of junk. Where will it stop? 2M 5M higher or crash to zero in a couple of weeks.

We've had the same damn coins for a while, there is nothing new under the sun. Maybe Byteball is interesting with the DAG technology thing, but since they gave free coins in the distribution to BTC holders, the dump was guaranteed.

In any case, meme coins have short lived pumps that disappear quick, it's too hard to profit from them and you risk holding an stagnating bag of shit.

Either it's pointless crap that amounts to a coin gimmick.. or worse..
A pointless "one day" gimmick.. that will one day be created (once you pay enough ICO funds)
Then the one day after that it will get mass world wide adoption of course.

I dunno how about a Block Chain Blogging platform called Steem or Internet chain thingy like BlockNET ?

All those that make coins pander to greedy brats with the attention span of a sack of rocks.
And worse is the "long con" bag hodlers like that reject from Ethereum named Minecache.

Reminds me of Prime Coin.
Yup a coin that did something scientifically useful (to some extent)
Of course there was a surge for all the early adopters to get on the train.
Then they got bored when the process meant profits died down.. then the dumping occurred.

I see a tornado at work.. a system that will work how it works.
If anything i'd like to see us focus on currencies.. not alternative uses for block-chain tokens things.

Are you talking about the rare pepecash? This is supported by some of the bitcoin maximalists because they think it is fun and because it is created in Counterparty. Making a profit out of this from the pump is of course also one of the main reasons they are hypring this. Many people had this for free some have been given millions of pepecash. The bitcoin maximalists who are holding pepecash to sell high are the biggest hypocrites of all.

Greed and envy plays a big factor and it is part of their motivation,they have seen new clone coins with no usage and features getting a lot of traders and success so why not create one like this,until people patronizing this clone coin,we'll still have a lot of these in the coming days.

memes have always been there, the biggest one was Doge and ever since then, there were many more that i have seen here and there with so many different and stupid names. and none of them live to see the light of day for long.

i doubt that.
because mostly people who already know about bitcoin and altcoins after bitcoin will find out about these memcoins! and someone who is unaware of cryptocurrencies in general will never even hear their names unless it is something as big as Dogecoin and that still have a small chance.

and right now coins like pep are in the hype mode and are getting pumped , the chances for these coins to stay around for long are so slim!

I think people forget just how many scrypt meme clone coins came out during the launch time period of Doge coin.

There was no reason why Kitteh coin or some other could not have taken off instead.



A key part of the history of Doge was the context of it's launch.
The crypto user demographic started to swing hard with a younger age in late 2013.
I base that assertion on 2 things the general across the internet activity and the forum here.

What i seen on all the regular non-crypto web sites across the web was a sudden and intense spam campaign by people acting like deceitful lying children.. spamming hard that Doge is just about to dethrone Bitcoin so get on the train now so you don't miss out.. while speaking in lots of "Doge speak" of course.
Deceitful because they either knew that was a lie or had no real reason to think so.
It was a massive facade.. simply to lure in more coin buyers into the meme-pyramid scheme token system.

It worked too !

This board was flooded by kids.
They treated this board like 4chan and would drop name calling and lame jpeg's non stop.

Do take note the Bobsled team got 10k in Doge coin donations and they forgot to mention Doge in the media at all when they finished last in the Olympics.

Which sure as hell does not constitute a community in my books.

The people pumping the rare pepecash will disagree that the coin has no use. There are articles online that some pepe will be collector's items like the Satoshi rare pepe. I have no problem with this. My problem is it is supported by some of the bitcoin maximalists that keep saying to avoid altcoins because they are a scam. That says a lot about how big the hypocrisy is here.

@Spoetnik. I can understand where you stand on the matter and I respect it. My personal stance on the matter is open. I know almost all of them are scams and there are only a small portion of them that is trying to build something. Do I think some of them will be successful? No. I have not seen one cryptocoin that made me think it will be a good complement or a good competitor versus bitcoin. But the developers are free to try to create one.
