Would a global disaster increase or decrease the Bitcoin value ?

I think the opposite of most people here - a global disaster would increase Bitcoin value. Firstly, there would be countries where the local currency becomes worthless and the population turn to Bitcoin (like Venezuala now). Secondly, lots of people would go on the move - refugees - and the easiest way to move money from one country to another is Bitcoin (you certainly don't want to be carrying gold).

Yes of course the disaster will the increase in the value of bitcoin. Now the falling back of bitcoin is almost impossible due to its very high demand and too much importance. It is used worldwide for online shopping and other high online investments, due to which its importance increases and with it its demand also rise and now it is impossible for it to fall back.

Hmm i think any natural disaster would increase the value of cryptocurrencies, actually i felt that the current tension of US and North Korea also contribute in some of Bitcoin's growth recently (War would be considered as disaster for me). People are always concern about ways to preserve their value, and by converting their values (fiat) into cryptocurrency it's pretty safe as long you have you private keys, natural disaster wouldn't kill internet or blockchain though as long there are computers running in the world, but for banks it could collapse during disastrous event with your fund lost.

Global disasters would decrease the bitcoin value, because if the disasters happen, the users will stop first to use internet and not connected on internet and they will not focus yet. Because the people will stop first to use bitcoin. Not only the value was affected but the people who are already invest in bitcoin. I think the internet connection was shutdown first and and it can be big impact in value of bitcoin. Because the global disasters really affect to the people and the system of the internet.

People tend to think war is the big threat, but war is not the only threat to our planet.  Right now you guys do not even realize the threats that we are facing right now and where bitcoin will be useless from that time, I say Yes.  Bitcoin is great technology given to men, but we are facing a bigger problem then war right now and that is Global warming.  Tell me when the planted raises 4 more degrees higher, our Bitcoin is gonna be worth more then commodity such as food, water, etc.....  Until we can solve Global warming, bitcoin does face a big threat.

It all depends on who's affected and what the extent of the damage would be to said countries.

A big war right now would throw a large portion of the world into shambles for a while, and the longer it goes on the significantly more damaging it will be. As long as the internet is operating, Bitcoin will be able to proliferate, but there are so many individual variables that can affect whether or not Bitcoin would be good that it's next to impossible to determine either way.

I agree to what have you said there sir, so many factors can be considered if at that time bitcoin is good as cash and internet is not affected by the calamity or any form of damage lets say internet is global that time bitcoin price will remain but it will be shaken to the parts of the world who is still relying on fiat

Well, if we are talking about the effects of big wars or great natural disaster into the Bitcoin market and community I think it will be measured of course on how destructive it is to a specific country. Like for example in the whole country internet has been shutdown and there was an electricity outage, do you think we can still manage to interact with the worldwide Bitcoin market and community? Speaking of big wars we are on close call to that EMP attack anytime by any country who has that kind of weapon system and we already know what are the consequences most especially to electronics if such attack is launched. It's undeniable that EMP attack is more devastating than catching nuclear warheads from above. These catastrophe might happen anytime and anywhere in the world and that could be disastrous to the affected country especially to it's Bitcoin community. The value of Bitcoin might increase due to holdings that are totally lost which affects the scarcity or decreasing supply while there is possible increase in demand.

When we do talk global disaster then its normal to think off that internet would really be mainly affected and which would really be the main reason where bitcoin cant be transact because we do know if theres no internet then there would be to transactions which would lead up on stable price or would really decline because it would really become worthless.

Global disaster doesnt affect the rate of bitcoin value. Whenever it has a big typhoon, global warning, volcanic erruption and whatsoever, bitcoin value remains on what the value it has. Bitcoin stays on its line and global happenings cannot in by that.

I think it strongly depends on the nature of the disaster. And how truly global is. Luckily we did not have many truly global disasters in the mankind history. I n case of such event, bitcoin price would be the least of our worries.

In a global disaster, people flee risk to safer assets. There isn't much riskier than crypto, since it's price is comprised of pure speculation. Compare crypto assets to the stock market. Shares of a company have an inherent value, in that shares of a company represent proportional ownership, and if the company were to be liquidated, the shares would be worth a proportional share of all the assets they represent ownership in. Further, shares generally trade above this value because they represent future profit the company will generate. Contrast this with bitcoin which doesn't represent ownership of a business or anything the generates profit. The only way to profit from owning a crypto asset is to sell it someone else for more than what you bought it for. This is a crapshoot of a proposition, and requires everyone to continue to value an inherently valueless asset. In times of global strife, stocks dive because people flee risk for safer assets (cash, treasury bills, etc.). We haven't had a period of global strife since the implementation of crypto assets yet, but my prediction is you would see a bigger pull back than you see in the stock market because crypto represents more risk than even those types of assets.

We have already a lot of disasters but mainly placed only in some part of the world. If we had a huge disaster(what i also don't whish) then it would be maybe strong increase? or decrease? It is very hard to say, because the huge disaster for you may be the small for someone else...
It all have a weigh with crypto users. By the way I think that the crypto would still grow, because decentralization would provide access to network even during war or natural disaster.

I don't know if global disaster can affect bitcoins value but maybe it can depends on the situation, the only think that I can think that will affect bitcoins value is if there will be something wrong with the internet. People won't be able to access their bitcoin if that will happen or if government will have a firm decision  about bitcoin to either embrace it or ban it.

i think the value will be increase because in that time, we can not using fiat because people seems to difficult to buy something with their money and i think there will be chaos in everywhere. so if there is any internet connection then we can use bitcoin to buy something but i think if big wars and great natural disaster is really happen then i think nothing currency can be use and the world is really in chaos situation.

Depends on which country that got hit by big wars or natural disaster. If big wars on big countries such USA, China and Japan, it will be big. It will affect the price of bitcoin for sure, i'm not sure about natural disaster though. Bitcoin users will think it's just a normal thing but big wars will be different.

Bitcoin is a cosmetic wealth it is useful only when there is disturbance to the world. God forbid if any disaster happens, if it is manmade or natural bitcoin and bitcoin owners will be affected the most from it. Look at how small things affects bitcoin price even the small rumors drag it price low by a thousand dollar in an hour. Bitcoin is a virtual currency designed to be used in an ideal condition. In disasters after life saving people look for the concrete and solid assets which could help them in survival. Gold and fiat are the least affected assets in a disastrous situation.

I think, we should look back to answer this one, bitcoin was created after the 2008 depression and it increased its value after that and whenever a global disaster, let's say a war emerges, people would not rely on banks to safe keep their money since their is bitcoin, which is much safer, and banks could easily be robbed, and for sure, as lomg as their will be internet and access to bitcoin, the value.of bitcoin has a huge potential for it to rise. In the event another great depression will occur, those who have bitcoin will still have more than enough, and this.might trigger a shift from fiat to cryptocurrency, since people would raher have their money in a safe place, specifically their wallets.
