Are there any 'alive' smallchange pools up and running? Would be fun to try.

Difficulty is very low, you can solo-mine it.

These lines must be put in the smallchange.conf file
I use linux so I don't know on windows but it must be create in the same directory as your wallet.dat
maybe C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Smallchange\smallchange.conf

Or you can also add them directly to the command-line with  -addnode=<ip>

Well - I am still playing around with difficulty and tx fees. I also left the max block size unchanged for now as I don't see any benefit to reduce it. Currently, the coin would support approx. 160tps i.e., 4 times higher than Bitcoin which is still small compared to real world microtransaction rates.

Nevertheless, I updated the code base w.r.t:
- max. coins corrected to 42 007 680
- added a option to dump block chain statistics
- added a few checkpoints for current block chain + reenabled code that does the checkpoint checking
- new icons (finally distinguishable from Litecoin)

The update is not mandatory but improves security.

By curiosity, what are these checkpoints exactly? How does it work?

What's the current diff? I remember throwing some hash at it for fun a day or so ago and it was already really high for a 'testcoin'.

Current diff is 0.038, harder but still feasible to solo-mine

At least at the current scale, the rules implemented appear to work well. I think the coin
is out there for a while. Still, take it for the fun, you'll unlikely make any money out of this!  Cheesy
