Highly inflationary even. But hoovering on a stable satoshilevel for monthes, so these two effects ballance out each other: adoption vs. mining.
The current lack of a devteam itches me too, if comparing with litecoin. Still stuffing all scrypt coins into the same bag here.

That is certainly true. Most scrypt coins out there lack true development and innovation, making them as tools for speculation, rather than becoming a usable cryptocurrency. Look at Litecoin for example, it lacks true development and innovation, copying Bitcoin's footsteps as time goes by.

Most recently, there has been support for LTC towards the adoption of SegWit, which could be plus for the cryptocurrency if it becomes active. But other than that, I believe that it needs more work from development and its community to help it reach new heights.

As for Dogecoin, it has a high inflation rate, and lacks development too. The bright side of these mentioned scrypt coins is that they're great for micropayments due to their cheap rates (like DOGE) and faster transaction speeds than Bitcoin (like LTC). Just my opinion.  Smiley

Dogecoin seems to have a good future when its given importance only on the trading platforms. Same as other digital currencies it has the varying nature which will be preferred by users to profit. Also it get importance in the gambling network as gambling sites list dogecoin acceptance.

I disagree, the dogecoin has almost infinite amount of coins still mining everyday. This price volatilty is all purely hype of the people promoting it. People love “doge” so they love dogecoin as well. It has been promoted furiously through the years but it is not based on anything new, there is no technological background, just peoples love. As soon as doge loses its community, it is going down hard.

Since Dogecoin is an inflationary currency, it cannot be used as a store of value. The high supply of DOGE would make it difficult for price to ever increase, limited only by the people who support it or by pure hype.

Not having a development team that would take care of the stability of the cryptocurrency, would limit its ability to grow in the future. Even though Dogecoin is used for tipping and micropayments, it will reach out to a point where it becomes completely obsolete, eventually resulting in its death.

I wish that someday a new development team would take over Dogecoin, and make improvements to it for the long-term stability of the coin. Something like a hard fork to limit DOGE supply would be great to start with, but it will be up to the decision of the dev team and the consensus of the community for it to become a reality. Just sharing my thoughts.  Grin

Why do coins have to be a store of value? All that does is lead to hoarding. How much bitcoin gets spent? Very little, people think of it like gold, or stocks.

The value of doge is that it can be used as a currency - in other words, to buy and sell real things in the real world. The inflationary side is a plus because it means people spend and tip instead of hoarding.

What got me thinking was "where can I spend Dogecoin?" and this list
throws up a few possibilities https://www.reddit.com/r/dogecoin/wiki/shop_with_dogecoin
I must admit the list is not hugh but I didnt realise you could even spend it anywhere.

Like all altcoin's I have heard good and bad things about Dogecoin
and I have to do a little more research on it. My desktop wallet is "Dogecoin Ready"
so I do have a place to store it if/when I decide to get involved.

What has been mentioned earlier is the mining of the coin the circulating supply is gynormous
is this working against it?

We cant so anything about it becausr people choose to hoard than to actively circulate it which is mainly needed for the price to go.Speaking of  Doge i do hold some of it and sometimes i do really like to spend it off but my mind just keep telling me to hold. Grin

Dogecoin has been my favorite alt coin for quite a long time. It serves as a good cryptocurrency for tipping others, as well as being a fun and inexpensive medium of exchange.

However, I'm worried what might happen to Dogecoin in the future, since it has been quite some time that no new version of the QT wallet has been mentioned, neither some innovation to keep it going for the long term.

It would become ideal for Dogecoin to add SegWit to its code, and gain traction if it gains acceptance from the miners. Then, if it manages to become the first cryptocurrency to accept the scalable solution, it could rise in popularity once more (not to mention that transaction will be near instantaneous).

Nevertheless, Dogecoin is a great cryptocurrency being inexpensive and relatively stable, making it a great way to tip others or send micropayments faster than BTC at a fraction of the cost.

Looking forward to your opinion. Wink

I guess dogecoin will still run after some time. Its actually one of the top cryptocurrencies online and yet its never been removed. As I can see, dogecoin is somewhat similar to bitcoin hence, the price is not the same. We all know that dogecoin and bitcoin is somewhat related. If the bitcoin rises, dogecoin fall and vice versa.

Dogecoin is the one that introduced me to cryptocurrency way back 2014, and this is one of my favorite coins too but the features and options of dogecoins offers nothing at all aside from being a meme coin.  There are lots of better scrypt coins than Dogecoins, even dogecoin is one of my favorit I can not see any future on it but a p & d coins.

No, that is a genuine question. I have seen it described that way so many times before. People always say it's "fun!". I'm just wondering why it is described that way. I mined a few back in the day and still use it to trade for other coins, but me personally, I would never describe it as fun. That's just me though.

To be fair, it's not just you. Many subscribers to bitcointalk have expressed the same puzzlement. On the whole, it doesn't seem to perturb people unduly; I believe the expression is “different strokes for different folks”.

To some extent the gap is understandable, especially if coupled with a defensive and dismissive attitude towards the (very misleading term) “soft sciences”. To understand the appeal of Dogecoin, you need to be educated and experienced in psychology and marketing.

To experience the appeal of Dogecoin you need to be a fun pro-social person. By and large, engineers are not especially pro-socially inclined (it seems to come with the math ability territory). So, nothing to be really concerned about.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Information Systems Management with a minor in Psychology and a Master's degree in Cybersecurity. I'm fairly educated, though I do not profess to know much about marketing. Still don't see why it is fun. But I do believe you are the one being sardonic now  Cool.

No. It's an actual thing.

For the currency to have maintained a marketcap above $ 40 million, for all these years, there is certainly some resilience in that. However, in the long term most of these altcoins will tend to zero, and Dogecoin has a high chance of suffering the same fate of such cryptocurrencies.
