this really have a future everything i read looks promising
There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

I've been watching this and think it's a great project worth investing in, both some money but also patience.. As a community we should give the team some breathing space to work on this instead of complaining on the price. If you believe the project, support it!

For new money to make it to alts it must first go through BTC.  When a BTC surge begins to level off expect huge surges in various alts.  VIA is a solid project, and at this point it wont take much to skyrocket the price.  Be patient and don't let emotion effect your decisions...

For a newbie on this website you make a very mature and fundamental point. Did your legendary account get hijacked or something and you had to start over? :-D

Been lurking the forums for a couple years.  Finally invested enough in crypto to feel the need to have a voice.

Not totally true anymore, as I've now been buying LTC instead on coinbase since the fees are cheaper. Grin

True.  BTC is no longer the only doorway from traditional currencies into crytpo, but it is still, for the most part, the gateway to the alt coin world.  Some exchanges will trade ETH or XMR for a handful of alts, but BTC is still the only real way to speculate throughout the entire altcoin landscape.

Just checking in. New VIA investor. While I’ve heard of via for quite some time, I didn’t know the specifics of the project. I saw that certain uses we’re accepting it as payment, that’s when I familiarized myself with its details. Solid fundamentals and roadmap is aligned with advancing functions and flexibility of crypto as a currency. I see this going the way of VTC, $5-7 perhaps? When is the last block mined? I see 100k diff which is pretty solid, but is it assumed that PoW will be maintained by scrypt ASICS or GPU?

In any event, feeling comfortable with picking up a nice bag and follow the community.

Oh I think it has much more potential to go even higher. I see this following in the footsteps of litecoin and could really showcase its ability as a means of transaction. What I would liek to see is the Dev start to talk plans with Small retailers, building small relationshios to accept your coin goes a long way. A nice marketing campaign needs to be done to bring Viacoin to a larger audience.

Hey natty welcome to via.  It is scrypt so you know the deal, asic run pretty much.  It's merged mined with LTC at some of the biggest pools that's why the high hashrate.  Feel free to split some of that LTC power and merge mine via too.  Wink

Greetings, friends at Viacoin! As Komodo Platform has been working around the clock to fine-tune the multiple GUI's that are the face of our Agama multiwallet and BarterDEX atomic swap protocols, there have obviously been many bugs found and many debugged. However, one bug in particular was found not only in our Agama GUI wallet, but also in the zcash4mac GUI swing wallet. It is a simple bug, but it warrants your attention. This is a potential money cost bug, and as a Bitcoin-protocol cryptocurrency, your GUI wallet(s) may be susceptible.

watchonly-GUI bug: 'watchonly' addresses appearing as your own in GUI wallet; users could potentially send funds to the address, unaware it is not theirs or available for withdrawal.  You can import <any address> and it becomes a 'watchonly' address. The GUI will display the address as yours, add its funds to your balance, and accept deposits, but cannot be withdrawn. This could be a normal address, my address, a p2sh address, satoshi's address, etc. This can be confusing to an end-user and will lead to many headaches for the developer, as is always the case with misplaced funds.

FOUND: in Komodo Platform's Agama multiwallet (fixed) and zcash4mac GUI swing wallet (@jl777b: "newest QT wallet seems ok about watch only, but not sure of older and when it was fixed")

ex. @grewalsatinder found the bug in his zcash swing wallet: https://i.imgur.com/sVd0QTL.png

Quote from: jl777B
"satinder used zcash4mac, ie. the zcash osx GUI, not ours... the assumption is no GUI out there properly handles watch only addresses, until proven that they do... agama also had this bug, which we found and fixed, so it seems a very common bug to have"

SOLUTION: For the 'watchonly' address or any address not yours, the value 'ismine' returns false. Any such address gets filtered out.

QUESTIONS:
  • How does your recommended GUI deal with watchonly addresses?
  • Does your GUI display watchonly addresses as different than actual addresses in the wallet?

We need to experiment a bit to see which approach gets a better response triggering the bug. People WILL lose money if they send funds to a watchonly address.

Quote from: jl777B
"the t3 addresses in the 'Own Addresses' column! and they absolutely cant be as they are p2sh addresses. it is clear proof that the bug is very real and anybody that understands a p2sh address will understand it cant be something in your wallet. it is usually a multisig address, so only if it is a 1of1 multisig (possible but very silly) can you have a p2sh address that is spendable, but the wallet wont even know it... normal addresses can also be watchonly, which makes this even worse. in that case it would appear in the list of addresses just like all the others. even if you are able to spot p2sh addresses visually, it wont be enough"

I've been tasked with spreading awareness and facilitating discussion of this bug, so please let me know if you have any questions. I'll get you some answers and we can minimize the impact. We wanted to reach out directly to the developers of the 60+ coins featured on Agama and BarterDEX as the bug may have a direct impact on you (via your own GUI wallet).

I have found that the Viacoin developers are still more serious and rigorous, and I hope you can solve the wrong problem as soon as possible.
