This is not my first time to hear this virus.. and i think better to always check the address. for me right now if my computer is infected i am using kaspersky safe browsing which is more safier that the other browser..
Protect your self for any viruses and many hackers right now are making virus .. like mine i am infected before with ransomeware  almost all my files are locked and i cant open the files its asking for a password and need to contact the hacker who made the ransomware..
But because if kaspersky anti virus resolve all my issue.. and get my files back to normal..

Recently There's a Virus I am victim of it and some of my friends, clients etc are affected too. This is called Copy-Paste Virus.
Please be careful while you paste a BTC address or Copy an Address.

The virus works like-- You copied a BTC address to send and while you paste it, It changed to other address and the funds sends to other account.

Yes the first time that I heard about this as well. Would simply checking before clicking send prevent this? Does it instantly change the address after pasting or it waits for a certain number of seconds, making it more likely it would change address just as you are about to click Send?

This is not my first time to hear this virus.. and i think better to always check the address. for me right now if my computer is infected i am using kaspersky safe browsing which is more safier that the other browser..

Do you need a paid version of an anti-virus to remove ransomware? I only use free Avast.

This bug/virus has been around for a long time in the bitcoin space and i am surprised to still see so many users post that this is the first time they are hearing about this.
Maybe the forum should have a board for people to post information on know bitcoin viruses, other users could check it daily/weekly to get the latest updates of what to watch out for.

Yes, this is a good idea. I wonder if there is currently no existing thread for this. Maybe we can ask the moderators to sticky a thread?

Many people became victim of that because of lack knowledge. They reply in such question eventhough they didn't know the topic or their knowledge in that topic is not enough. When they don't have any words left to tell they copy and paste from various answers of other accounts and begin to paste it so that they have a quiet good answer.  This is virus must stop here in bitcoitalk because the quality of the answers of some people is destroyed and plagiarize.

It's my first time to learn about this too. Thanks for the info. What about if the QR code was scanned, I suppose the address can't be changed, so the virus won't work right?

It's good practice to check and compare if the pasted address is the same as the one being copied.

I've seen this problem happened to others before. Thank you for alerting the community again so that new Bitcoiners can be aware of.

Do you know where this "virus" originated from? Does it come from a download or just visiting a website?

Does it also affect QR Code? I use a mobile wallet and I always just scan QR code instead of copy-pasting Bitcoin address.

So sad! This profile does not appear as the #1 result (on anonymous) Google searches anymore.

Time to be active on the crypto forums again? Proud to be one of the few Legendary members of the Sparkie Red Dot!

Gonna put this on my resume if I ever join a cryptocurrency/blockchain industry!

I have heard about that virus before it's looks like the cause is when you dowload unknown source of software that has a malicious virus or malware whatever you call it. It affects your copy pasting function so i suggest to use an antivirus or format your pc.

Both downloading file and visiting website could infect your computer. As far as I know that this virus actually replaces the thing you've just copied with specific text which is in this case, a btc address.
But, there's also possibilities that this virus will replace the address when you're going to send to transaction instead, but, if when you're scanning your QR code and the transaction be sent automatically, it'll be fine, I suppose.

I haven't know of this bug to exist when scanning a bitcoin QR code but it doesn't take more than a couple of seconds to double check that the address you are sending to is the correct one.
Always check the first 4 characters, another 4 consecutive characters in the middle and a couple at the end and you'll be right, the odds of someone creating a vanity address that meets that criteria are extremely slim to non existence.

Zemana Antilogger is good to use. Gives clipboard protection. (Not 100% sure that was the exploit). Still, even with that you should always double check the recipient address.

Personally i try to double check bitcoin address before sending bitcoin to not make any mistake. Looking at first few digits and few end digits could be enough for you to not make any mistake.

I have heard about this virus before also, its better not to download anything from unknown sources. Specially you have to be careful when installing new softwares, always check their publisher details.

Yesterday I was working through TeamViewer on a Clients Computer and she has the same virus in his PC too that her passwords are changing while she paste it.
It is first time for me to find this wired virus. Just imagine that how clever peoples are to make this kinds of virus that, you wont believe more in Ctrl+C & Ctrl+V  Tongue ...

same here. I also check the address several times before sending bitcoin. I even almost memorize all digits.

I never heard about the virus except for this thread. I was just afraid of sending bitcoin to wrong address so I checked the address several times.

It's nothing new tho some people have no idea about it. Several threads about that btc address changing virus was made I think last year and afaik the only soluyion to fix your pc is to reinstall the os clean again or the virus will remain.

Don't browse internet all together, that way you are completely safe or set up machines/vps. but what about the people not knowing how to use or set up vps and want to be online and browse the internet?

Something I learned long time ago about manually finding viruses: there are some viruses that have folder icons while they're not folders so if you ever saw a folder with it's size shown in the size column of the explorer window delete it because it's a virus.

First time of hearing this kind thing of virus. But, thank you for the info.
But for you to be safe , do not just download or install any softwares from your pc or mobile phone.

We should really be more careful on who's to send our money. And should practice hundred times of checking and would be great to check every letter befor sending.

Be more cautious.

This virus isn't new,it has existed since the early days of bitcoin on the darknet and other hack forums.
Virus or not,it's always a good practice to double check the bitcoin address you're sending coins to.
You can  buy off that code from any hack forums,it's sold openly.
Use linux for bitcoin, makes your stuff secure by 80%

Even though it's old but it's the 1st time i am hearing of this type of virus.
Can someone tell me how actually it works i mean how someone's system can get affected by it ?
Due to website script or in local machine

I suggest you to install malwarebytes software to prevent this kind of malware. As what they've said, it's not new anymore. There are several cases like this before and even posted here in forum but it seems that there are still users who did not know about this yet. For me, even without this virus/malware, we users should do checking after pasting the address/data, it's our responsibility.

One more added in the hacking virus list of information. It is always good to recheck the address where you are sending the payment and double checking is not wrong as some time we copy paste wrongly leaving some letters which will loss us. and always dont download any exe or software which are offering you free bitcoins or free tasks software to earn free bitcoins as this are all hacking techniques.
