I also experienced this on my laptop, although only 0.01 total losses. but from the events, I learned to be more careful and always checks resetting to 3 times the wallet address we want to transfer funds.

This virus also ever attacks my laptop because I Download software which are offering you free Bitcoins and I need to reinstall windows just to remove the virus. My advice you don't Download any software which are offering you free Bitcoins as this are all hacking.

In the first place, why you believe that there is a software that offering free Bitcoins? It's impossible that there is a lefit software like that. Work for bitcoin not to earn for free by installing a software. Even some of the newbies knows that thing is a crap. That's why think before you click.

In case of copypaste, it should be obvious that people always checked the pasted address before proceeding. How come they click send without any precautions or double cheking so that the address will be correct. Huh That is my usual behaviour not because of hacking but Im making sure that I pasted the address correctly without missing letters or numbers.

That's the problem guys, you shouldn't not be attracted by those so called "free bitcoins" and there's a requirement of downloading something. Because that software is allowing those hackers to enter your system and it's just their front regarding the free bitcoin but they are the ones that will take advantage of you, so be careful on what you are downloading.

Oh that is really a bad thing. I often copy my address and do not check and trust on the system but now I will check again and again all of the digits of my address as I do not want to lose my money because of that virus. But I hope that my computer will not get that virus.
Thanks you for telling us about that thing.

Fast question, so how is the most common way my machine gets infected with this virus? Is this standard email/ malicious popup virus?
Or it is being distributed via some unusual way? Specific software, service, website?

I always double or triple check my addresses before sharing my address, how similar fake address can be to my original one?

I have always made it a habit that i always double check my address usually first four and last four characters of the address, but does this only get to a specific wallet or maybe type of add like a vanity address?

Thanks you for telling us about that thing.
This is my first time hearing about such a virus and just in case my pc or anybodies pc is affected how do we get rid of it??

Recently There's a Virus I am victim of it and some of my friends, clients etc are affected too. This is called Copy-Paste Virus.
Please be careful while you paste a BTC address or Copy an Address.

The virus works like-- You copied a BTC address to send and while you paste it, It changed to other address and the funds sends to other account.

The virus is kind of old, but at the same time it is always good for a remainder so newbies get to know of the risk that are out there especially if you use insecure systems like windows, it is better to use some other OS instead of Linux when we are talking about money.

Nah, that's right. Same goes for downloading cracked software or games. There's always a hidden purpose behind free software especially those which offer free money. And many of the purposes is to steal your data and BTC.
By the time being and until now. I've rarely heard this case anymore. However, there must be someone or some people who're facing this problem but doesn't have the intention to reveal it to public. The best way is to keep your security up to date.

Its is always safe to double check the address whenever sending bitcoin. First, transactions cannot be retracted, so you cannot make mistakes on sending on the right address. With virus or not, it should be the practice to double or triple check all information before sending. It only takes a minute or less.

Its my first time knowing this and have never experienced it fortunately. Though I practice myself to look up the address first before giving it to someone for payment since I'm kinda want to be sure to the money or Bitcoin I have and  not to be wasted or to be send to other address. A good practice is to look for the first and last part of the address and might as well consider looking in the middle just to be sure which will not take a lot of time.

I can't believe that people are still greedy enough to download such software. There is no such thing as a free lunch. The very fact that the software offers you free bitcoin should have made you suspicious.

A friend of mine downloaded this virus from here

http://bitcoinstealer.blogspot.co.uk/

The builder.exe is the virus and not a virus builder

now I have tried loads of things to help him ..... iv run every anti virus .... every anti malware and spyware ..... nothing .....

the virus is very hard to find .....

I download it via the link above ..... tried to decomplie the builder.exe .... which is the virus .... but I stil;l cant work out where the dam thing is hiding.

anyone got a better decomplier than me ? fancy having a look and seeing where the dam thing is hiding on my friends system.

I wrote a macro so when my friend pushes F7 key it pastes his BTC address on screen ( crappy way to bypass the virus)

but I still want to find it and get rid of it for him

thanks for reading ....

**EDIT**

if your going crazy like my friend and cant get the virus off your system .... when you copy a BTC address dont copy the 1 at the start

type the 1 where you where going to paste then unload your clip ... and yay ! you copied a BTC address . . . .

lol

some steps to stay safe from virus
1. Use a firewall

2. Scan for malware

3. Stay up-to-date : enable automatic updates in both Windows and applications.

4 Make sure your web email access – or, for that matter, any sensitive website access – is only via secure (https) connections, or that your regular mail program is configured to use only encrypted connections.

5 never install Softaware before check on virustotal.com

I think that the best would be to have a computer or laptop dedicated to money/cryptos transactions.
You dont have to buy a new one, even a Raspberry Pi would be perfect
(I use one RPi2 running Raspbian, it's slower than a PC but for a couple transactions a day/week its ok).
Be carefull when running unknown or copied programs in the computer and trust nobody.

Since bitcoin provides a strong security to assured that your investment is free from hackers. They have coordination with the government to monitor this issue and be aware of it.
It is better aside from them itis your duty also to be careful in every actions that you will made.
