Nice way to downplay the bait-and-switch scam. They weren't just "targets". They were "honest abe", guaranteed, power levels. They didn't ship what they guaranteed they would ship. Classic Bait And Switch SCAM.

The thing is that the original 4.5GHs unit has become 5GHs (5.3GHS actually)  and nobody gives a rats (except the critics) that it pulls 30watts. Some people care that the case is bigger, I like the cube shape myself, reminds me of the Borg.

BFL is the least of my worries, I'm more worried about ASICMINER.

Anyways, that's why I did the whole group buy thing... less risk on my side.

6 out of 33000 We should get a post going "my Order# is" and "I received on date" to estimate their manufacturing throughput. I think it would be most scientific method since they really can't commit to any concrete estimates.

Here is the currently estimated timeline, and while this is subject to change of course, it's pretty solid at this time. Completed items are crossed off:


Week of January 13th
Travel to packaging facility for final prep and walkthrough - Complete
Confirm travel plans and trip details with lead ASIC engineer for trip to fab - Complete

Week of January 20th
Final assembly facility prep - In progress

Week of January 26th
Leave for fab/bumping facility at the end of the week
KC facility starts assembly process of units to drop PCB into Units being prepped!

Week of February 3rd
Final chips roll off the line
Arrive at Bumping facility
Chips Bumped
Arrive California for Packaging (May spill into following week)
Chips packaged

Week of February 10th
Packaged chips sent to assembly house
Assembled PCB is set for final testing and MCU programming
Notify users to start sending their FPGA units or BTC for trade in participants
Bulk assembled PCBs arrive in KC, we start dropping PCBs into waiting units
Boxing/labeling for shipment
We implement the 1/3 shipping plan en mass
1/3 of our assembled units will go to new orders in FIFO
1/3 of our assembled units will go to upgrade orders
1/3 will be randomly selected from both groups

Indeed, you can be sure it won't be happening again if I have anything to say about it.  The ship dates were announced before I came on board with BFL and going forward, unless I am explicitly overridden, we will not be making any shipping date commitments.  It will be Valve time from here on out if I have my way.

You left out the most important component: the Jalapeno is 6 months late. You could have mined 50 BTC in that time with 5GH/s.
