How effective is the cooling when you get above 200MHZ? Do you need external fan or at what point do you need extra cooling to be used?

I have two Terminus that have been running @ 250 MHz for over two months, non-stop, averaging 98.6 MH/s each. No additional cooling.

I have mine running at 275MHz. Without extra cooling it would regularly cycle back to 200 and work its way back up to 275, rinse and repeat. I tipped one of my gridseeds over to direct a little extra cooling through the terminus heatsink and raised the terminus up on a short stand to allow more air flow underneath. The terminus is running solid at 275 for about two weeks now. Getting about 119 Gh/s off slushpool.

Ambient temperature will also play a role. Mine is in the basement currently at ~68F.

Problem is: Due to legal constraints a housing for the PCB is a must to fulfill WEEE and EU electronics requirements.

how come that you can buy hundreds of pcb types, arduino's, raspberry pi's etc in an electronics shop/webshop that doesn't have any housing?

that stuff was imported too without any problems.

They don't import the PODs, they build it, then need to use the 'legality'...

Raspberry pi's are manufactured in the uk... not imported.

I'd love to get a pod or two, don't give a monkeys about EU requirements.

so, months ago, I was on the pre order list to buy some pod miners, even was in contact with the person arraigning transactions. I went from being on the pre order list, to being on the waiting list, and then nothing. no emails. no info. what happened? was sales to Canada quietly closed or something. had an opportunity to buy multiple units. that time has passed. I know loosing an order is no big deal to ya, but feel pretty perturbed for being ghosted like that. just wanted to put my whateves in. anyway, not a big deal really just wanted to say sup? lol keep up the good work!

The person handling sales is no longer handling sales, so I don't know details.

I do know that she sent out multiple "all call" emails over a couple months telling, as far as I know, everyone on the interest list that sales were open. So if you wanted to give us money you had about three months worth of opportunity to do so.

To be frank though, you might have dodged a bullet. I've gotten a lot of warranty requests for the pod miner so I've stopped selling them entirely until we can work out the common flaws that, somehow, absolutely didn't show up during the year or so I was working on the design but came up in roughly 20% of the mass-production boards but only after extensive testing and then shipment to who-knows-where.

So my best advice is, keep waiting just a bit. I'll have something better for you anyways.

That's great you got 275Mhz. Mine is running 200Mhz reliably. The included fans keep the heatsink temps under 100 f. I also have a small external fan to keep them cool. Higher freq is nice, but 200 Mhz was what I was expecting to run them at as a minimum. I find the latest build of cgminer buggy and takes up a lot of CPU for some reason, so I've resorted to using last year's version.

I have 4 of these little guys running off of 2 PI's. I love them. One PI setup has been hashing since 10-Apr at 250MHz without a restart.

What do you use to check the temperature?

He probably used a laser thermometer. You can't check the temps in CGminer, but I believe there is an auto shutdown at 80c to restart at 70c.

quite normal I guess. why pay for a 2Pac the same price or even more on bitshopper than what you ask for the pod that's a lot faster?

there also has been no news for months about the availability nor price for us euros for the pod.

I doubt anyone cares for the case as it will be removed anyway for better cooling.

The pods are not as reliable as I had hoped so I've stopped production on them. The only new ones rolling out now are replacements for warranty failures. It's mostly issues with a change or two to the manufacturing process that have since been addressed and won't be a problem anymore.

The Europe market is Bitshopper's. If he has no news, maybe it's because he sold everything already.

Good news is, I believe he intends to license the new stuff and manufacture for himself (like with the original Compac) so his supply of goods will be independent of my manufacturing schedule. It's also good because that keeps Europe money in the Europe economy instead of sending it to me in the US. I like that philosophy, which is why I do everything locally instead of outsourcing.

Also the next pod, at least from me, will come in a case and have much better cooling than the R808. Those little fans kinda sucked. There's room for improvement so improvement will be made.

Well if they're manufactured there, you won't have the added import tax of stuff coming from the US. And bitshopper's cost will be actual cost rather than my sale price plus the cost of international shipping.

US resellers don't have any VAT and they still at least double my sale price.

On the bitshopper site it's ~€80 which equals about $93.50 but has shipping included I believe.

I don't think regular mail shipping with tracking will cost €40+.
I can't see it as I can't order a 2PAC as it's sold out (as usual).

So there's a big price gap somewhere.

2Pacs have sold between $30 and $40, mostly dependent on the rise of chip prices due to the ridiculous price bubble some months back.

Shipping from US to Germany adds some.
Import tax adds ~20%
Shipping from Germany to adds some.

Bitshopper also runs his own website and any advertising, which have costs. And if the store is his job, he has to keep food on the table. And also provides his own customer service, which is value-added and therefore not free.

It's pretty standard for the price of something to double every time it changes hands. Middlemen love profit. My uncle (runs an aluminum die-casting plant) told me a story once of some aftermarket auto parts they contracted $1.35 per unit to manufacture, and the shelf price by the time it got packaged and put in a store was $40.
With bitshopper there are no extra middlemen, so you'd expect about one price doubling. And that's about what you're seeing. When he's manufacturing them for himself, the price will probably be more reasonable.
