Finally, an interesting signing.
It is the hit that Barcelona did on the contrary of those that real did with Hazard.
Time for Griezmann to show his real talent!

Atletico refused the payment.
Since Barca traded Griezmann illegally when the clause was 200 m €, they now want 200m.
I read it on the news too. I just keep wondering how such scandals keep happening yet professional agents and accountants are involved.
I also think Atletico Madrid have no choice but to let go. Imagine if Barcelona decided to change their minds and stop the deal. Who else would pay 200M for Griezmann??  Grin
They would also be harboring a player who no longer has the heart for the Club so best thing to do right now is to just let go.

If they decided that they want 200m and they won't let it go, then only Griezmann will be harmed.
120m are still good (not so good as 200m but that ok) and they should move on. 120m is a good amount to sign another good player that would substitute Griezmann.

If by some reason Griezmann doesn't go, expect a 100m GBP+ player to be downing tools and be playing like way less than what he's worth.  Lawl.  The club loses overall.

Atletico are looking very desperate now. Contract was signed now, I don't know why they're talking about March. And it's interesting that Atletico will get only €96 millions instead of €120 millions because €24 millions will go to Real Sociedad.

Media in Italy are now talking about a tax reform that will come into affect starting from 2020. It is believed that this could be the beginning of better days for Italian football. Thanks to the new law clubs could now receive tax breaks.

If a player earns €10M the clubs have to pay a total of €17.5M with taxes but with the new change a player would now cost the club only €12.7M. This means that Italian clubs could give higher salaries and attract bigger stars.

It is explained a bit here:

Yeah this is active from this July if I'm not wrong.

This is not a law made for football players' but for all workers (so also applied to football).

To incentive workes from the EU, the owner will pay taxes only on 50% of the salary.

In a short them for football, you need to add 25% to get the expense.

(This is very good, take the case Pogba if he comes he will cost only 12+25%(12)=15M while a player like Pjanic 7.5+7.5 costs the same for the owner)

This is interesting to see such discussion and you have given such nice briefing about football, I know in every game there are some rules that workers and the gamblers will have to follow so in football if it is decided to pay 50 percent tax from the salary so it will be there for everyone, I know games need proper rules and regulation and players will have to obey the coach and follow the rules.

Keep in mind, to be "use" this new law you need to be a worker outside Italy 12-24 months and if I remember correctly 24.

So for Example Sarri worked only for 1 Year on Uk and they cannot use this thing with him, but they eventually can with Rabiot, Ramsey, DeLigt...

I for one am happy to see clubs spending big on players I don't really rate too highly. I like Griezmann a lot don't get me wrong, but nowhere he is worth 120m, much less 200m. And yes, I'm taking into account the grossly inflated rates everyone commands. I know Liverpool are partly to blame for the Alisson and VVD buys, but then we already had eyes on them and the price tag was nothing we were able to do about.

P.S. Will the Italian rules also be retrospective or will any deals done before 2020 season starts be exempt?

I don't particularly like Griezman as well but 120M for him vs. 113M that Atletico paid for Joao Felix is a bargain. Griezman is world champion and proven quality throughout many seasons while felix isj ust making his first professional steps and has one good season under his belt.

That being said I think Barca will not find much happiness with him. The supporters will just wait for his first sub par performance and start to pick on him due to his dismissal (trough video) last season. He will have to hit the ground running at Camp Nou for any happiness at the club. And it is a big change to switch from defensive minded, high work-rate Atletico football to Barca way of play where everything is about Messi.

It's a nice move, but I think it's not enough. Italian football league have a deeper problem than a high tax on salaries. There are no attractive games, usually, they play too much defensive and it's not attractive for the audience. very few matches played where used is more than 60% of stadium capacity. I think English second league have more visitors than Serie A. Also corruption tendency and scandal like Calciopoli was not helping.
Why will someone watch the game, where is already known the result.
The problems with Italian football are present not just because of their defensive mentality. I don't think that mentality will ever change, that is what makes them what they are.
The problems are in the infrastructure and the stadiums. Italian stadiums are old and unattractive. They look like huge concrete prisons and not a place where you want to bring your family to enjoy a football match. Italian clubs don't own their stadiums, except Juventus. They rent them from the city.

Take a look at this, is this how a stadium should look?

Then there is the problem with fake merchandise that is being sold close to the stadiums which is actually unbelievable in the first place.
The President of Napoli talked about this when fans asked him why he doesn't invest more like Juventus does with Ronaldo. He told the fans they need to change their 'cheating' mentality and support the club instead. Stop manufacturing and distributing fake Napoli shirts and instead buy the official merchandise from the club. He also mentioned that Napoli fans are paying off the stewards who are checking the tickets to let them in for free.

There are so many things that need to change for Italian football to again be competitive.

In fairness to Liverpool FC, the Alisson & VVD transfer fees were covered with the sale of Coutinho to Barcelona for I think 142 million euros. Liverpool along with Spurs have a very low net spend unlike teams such as Man City, PSG, Man Utd.

Griezmann will definitely be a plus for Barca. He's technically gifted and he gives 100% on the pitch. He defends when asked to, something other attacking players don't do in Barca.
The only issue is there are now too many offensive options, especially if they go for Neymar. Valverde will have a tough time dealing with the rotation and it might cause some tensions in the locker room.

Speaking of Neymar, he just said in an interview that his best football memory was the 6-1 win with Barca over PSG. Let's just say that PSG fans are really pissed with him. He was transferred for 220 millions, brought literally nothing to the team except drama and now he is almost untransferable. Many people want PSG to make an example of him and do another Rabiot (leave him out of first team for a whole year). Of course, that will never happen but it shows how bad they want him out.

EDIT : there's a new problem with a possible transfer to Barca. The Spanish fiscal administration is asking for 35 millions from him.

LOL why is he so subtle with his words?  Grin Seriously, though, that was totally innapropiate. I can't think of a single PSG fan who wants him on the team next season.

EDIT : there's a new problem with a possible transfer to Barca. The Spanish fiscal administration is asking for 35 millions from him.
Ah yes, good ol' Hacienda coming to get ya! Interesting that this news pops up right now when he wants to go back to Spain and not when he was in France for the past 2 years...*puts on tinfoil hat which has a barcelona flag* Florentino Perez pulling the strings to stop Neymar from signing with Barca  Roll Eyes

Poor Neymar, though, troubles in Spain (tax evasion, 35M), in Brazil (tax evasion, 40M), in Paris (shitshow with PSG, watch out for the upcoming tax evasion news), multiple injuries that stopped him from playing with the NT, rape allegations...This guy is on his way to become the biggest downfall in football history.

Yes exactly. As I say, the lowest tax fee on players salaries is a good move, but not most important and not enough. They need people, real people on his stadiums. All his stadium was renovated for world cup 1990, then they have the best stadiums in Europe, but after that, they do not touch anything in maintenance.
For example, Inter can't buy the biggest names in the latest days, just they don't have enough money, the club was not earned enough money.

Speaking of Neymar, he just said in an interview that his best football memory was the 6-1 win with Barca over PSG.
LOL why is he so subtle with his words?  Grin Seriously, though, that was totally innapropiate. I can't think of a single PSG fan who wants him on the team next season.

It's a come get me plea.  He's desperate.  Lmao.  And after what he pulled at Barca in getting a transfer to PSG...?  Barca:  'Nope!'.  Lololol.

What has worsened the situation is the fact that a few matches into the season, people already know who the winner of the league is going to be. If you are not a Juventus fan. This totally makes the league suck.
Even with the defensive mentality, Italian Football was quite interesting in the early 2000s. AC Milan was impressive in Europe too.

That I have to agree with you but you cannot really generalize all Italian teams being left behind by their other European counterparts. Some of the top teams have really good training facilities and they have one of the most world class youth development facilities to date. And since I know A.C. Milan more I'll be talking about their recent moves with regards to their infrastructure. Aside from A.C. Milan having Casa Milan as their training facility Milan and Inter both agreed that they'll be constructing a new stadium to replace San Siro as their Home and I think that's a big start for two Serie A teams in the league.

I guess it's part of their history and heritage and they wanted to keep it that way.
AC Milan and Inter Milan are very successful clubs compared to so many clubs in the top 5 leagues in Europe. I don't think they would have failed to have a stadium of their own each.

In other news, Griezmann has been given Shirt Number 17. I guess the Coutinho Exit romour will die off for now since his number is intact.

So Barca is posting Griezmann but Atletico refused the Payment, this will be fun.

Take a look at this, is this how a stadium should look?

Stadiums are a problem but this is not teams fault.

Many and many teams want to build their new stadium, (Milan Inter Roma and more) but they can't since they have a longs loan agreement with the propriety of the stadium.

Also if they ask to build a new stadium, they need to buy the land to build it (streets and other utilities) but the owner of the lands is the owner of the old stadium and ofcourse it will not sell the land to eath from the plate.

The name of the stadium is actually Giuseppe Meazza. Meazza was a renowned Inter Milan player and the stadium bears his name.
San Siro is a district of the city of Milan where the stadium is located. So when you see the name San Siro it is actually the part of town where the stadium is located. Milan just prefers to call it San Siro and not Giuseppe Meazza because it is a reference to a rival player and club (Inter Milan).

That wouldn't be another case of the 'insiders' getting excitement over nothing would it?  Wink  Cos it's already a done deal as far as Barca is concerned.
