In my opinion, this is a meaningless occupation at the end of 2017. You need more power, only the CPU power is now too low.

It is difficult to assess the payback of mining... To make mining profitable, you have to invest in good hardware. If you try to mine on CPU of your laptop, then you will get profit in the form of a burned device

Hey all,

I am planning to develop pool software for ethereum (and forks). I have installed  linux,  geth  on an old PC and created a private chain.
In order to develop and test I need a CPU miner (not the geth miner ) so that it connects to my ethereum node via stratum.

I understood ethminer used to have CPU support, but I cannot find any old version in github.

Anyone has a link where I can download an old version of ethminer (linux) which has support for CPU mining (-C flag)?

Hi guys.

i ve stuck with the cpu mining idea because of existing hardware.
I ve got 7 servers with xeon cpus but all working on some software, services etc etc. i wouldn't like them to work on full load but only up to 50-60% as now each cpu load is < 10%.
I could also setup a couple of Virtual machines only for mining.
As well i could built a pc with FX 8300 8-Core Processor 3.3GHz only for mining too.

Do you think that all these machines would make some good profit monthly?
Would better go for Monero or Aeon?

servers running 24/7 and im not paying any electricity.


other choice is:
rig with few GTX 750 Ti 4GB that is cheap for mining monero (giving about 250h/s) and according to calculators will give a monthly profit of aprox $70.

if mining monero i would be happy in the future to reach 1500h/s-2000h/s so i could get up to $180 per month.

i'm happy to listen any opinion

that is right, it is better that we build a rig to mining and buy some vga so we can start mining some coin. we don't recommend mining using our CPU because we cannot make a profit and besides that, we need to pay some electricity that will increase from time to time. if you can buy some vga cards, then you have many option coin to mining and I guess you can get a profit from this.
