IMO LTC, but not now. It's price is currently too high to be making any sort of "long term" investment. Course I don't believe you can treat Crypto the same way as you would stocks so "long term" for me is a much different thing.

One thing to consider

LTC was at 50 bucks before when BTC was 1100

LTC at that time had less reason to exist than it does now that BTC scaling is a big problem.

LTC has perhaps just solved that problem, and been added to coinbase.

So although in crypto using that kind of reasoning does not always work sometimes it does.

For me it is a 100 or bust for LTC i will hang on until then selling little bits on the way to the bulk at high 90's

BTS - how does his new project coming out relate to BTS? not looked into it.

I would avoid BTS, Dan is like a grasshoper, going form a project to project.
Never got anything good from backing up his project with angelshares.

Bitshares look like a good short-term investment. It is 18% up on coinmarketcap. But the price is too small for this coin to be good. BTS has extremely fast (5 seconds) transactions and smart contracts can be performed with it. But I don't like that it is tied hard with the company BitShares which can, of course pump the price any time they want. Plus, it is somehow connected to fiat which makes it more or less stable. The currency looks suspicious to me. So I vote for litecoin like everyone else.

If you're planning long term and want more tuple profit, then go with BTS, if you want a safer option and want to go with where you are less likely to lose your investment but you will get lesser percentage of profit, then choose LTC, but don't buy LTC right now as it is on a pump, wait for the price to settle and then buy whichever you like.

LTC but the price is high now due to SegWit
As long as Bitcoin is having these scalability issues, I could still see LTC growing after this initial Segwit interest.
I could definitely see more and more Bitcoin users switching if the transactiomn stay slow and expensive.

Plus, who knows what Litecoin will do after as few months? Can't completely count out some new announcement.

for long term (from a month to couple of years) only bitcoin and never even consider anything else.

for shorter term (a couple of months). litecoin has a good potential of rising up. it has the SegWit being activated in it in about 2.5 hours and then we are off to the moon. there may be some drops but fear not, you can wait for the bottom because moon is on sight.

however the other altcoin you mentioned seems to have some easir path of rising. the risk is higher but the rise may be bigger. so choice is yours.

With all the recent development on Litecoin, litecoin is my hands down choice I don't know much about bitshares but litecoin is slowly getting a lot of buzz because of the recent development all the other altcoins went down but litecoin is still up

Which factors made your investing strategy to rest on these two? There are several more options available around to choose from. However, if you are concerned with these two only then no doubt, LTC is far better and particularly presently when LTC is on its full blossom.

Because you post that you are interest for long term investment then LTC is my choice between two because,

It has some time around, from 2011, means that have resistance in time,
It is segwit activated,
A good alternative coin instead of btc in small transactions that means a potential increased adoption in cryptocurrency world.

Litecoin is probably the worst investement you can make of any crypto IMO, specially at this price. Its record as a store of value is abominable and it relies on periodic "resuscitation" pumps just to be kept alive. Have a look at this:

Clearly the place not to buy is right at the top of one of those spikes - or in fact anywhere during a litecoin spike, unless you happen to know exactly where you're going to jump off.

The current pump has nothing to do with scaling. It would be if litecoin implementing segwit could scale bitcoin but it isn't, it's scaling litecoin and so it's no more a driver or value than any other scaleable altcoin is. The reason for the pump (as you can see from that chart) is that whales are accumulating bitcoin, not litecoin and are using the recent addition to coinbase as a basis for fleecing unassuming traders jumping on the bandwagon, just exactly as they did with the previous 'spikes'. Note the lower low every year.

Bitshares meanwhile has potentially massive growth at hand.

The reason is that it's uniquely placed to benefit from the large and increasing demand for fiat-pegged cryptographic assets. Just have a look at Tether's volume to see what the potential is. The problem is that Tether is fiat backed whereas Bitshares is a pure crypto solution backed by a genuine market-driven peg.

No brainer I'd say.

Difficult to compare the two.  BTS is more of a platform where LTC at this point is strictly a token.

BTS with it's current tech, graphene, has been showed to scale quite nicely:
http://docs.bitshares.eu/_downloads/bitshares-stresstest.pdf
https://steemit.com/bitshares/@steempower/bitshares-state-of-the-network-9th-may-2017

With Dan announcing EOS, we can only wonder when BTS and Steem will move to this technology allowing large volume exchanges to move their operations onto the BTS blockchain.  OpenLedger has already done this and seems to be working just fine for them!
