I think it's good to give a heads up. There are people who might be great for it who otherwise wouldn't notice in time. I would however lock it until I took applications.

I better start writing up my script about how much murits, trusts, and powah I gots, and how great of a non-signature shitposter I have been for years to go along with my application..

Maybe also make many comments and condescendingly correct applicant's mistakes during the application process, and have a fancy tutorial ready to post about multiple ways to make a segwit addresses to help those applicants who can't read OPs and such, because they will surely have a good chance if they manage to get their app right the 2nd or 3rd time..
Maybe even lend DarkStar_ my mind of what applicants to choose and cheer some of them on because he would surely appreciate all my great suggestions..

All kidding aside, putting the signature on is something applicants should really do. The rules in the OP ask to do so, it's just no one wants to lose their current signature as every campaign requires to keep it on at all times, and DarkStar_ is nice enough to flex that rule (see the subtle praise, add it to your list of techniques).

I don't know who this "suchmoon" spammer is, but he can't even read the OP! No way should he/she/them be accepted.

Note2: Due to the enormous amount of applications even when there is only one open slot, changing your signature to apply is not required.

All kidding aside, I have learned continually that he is a really good guy ever since early 2016 when he unsolicitedly PM'd me with good lending advice, even though I was competing against his service, back when we were both pretty young accounts.. Very nice of him even way back then, and he has sense built an impeccable reputation and remained a good hearted user, despite the fortune and fame..

I'll apply anyway, because this is like one of the only opportunities with dignity (payrate is not my motivation), but I highly doubt I'll be accepted due to CM business decisions about where they want hired posters to post, and my postings are in limited sections where they probably don't really need more CM sigs flying around, lol..

DarkStar_, why don't you just lock it up for a temporary campaign, when you are truly "positive" accepting new participants, you open your wings wide for newcomers.

I failed with my two applications this year and I wish I will have a very very different result this time. 

Maybe you will fill one slot later if you decide to register again. 
Some people may have sent PM to darkstar_ to reserve 1 place in the campaign, even when the campaign was closed for new participants.

I think only people like you can disqualify us from some open slot after the announcement. Therefore I will never feel disappointed when I fail to get 1 a slot because 90+% of the opportunity is for member who have quality, are very trusted and have a good reputation.

But Steamtyme has been a little convincing and makes me confident to try to apply when the manager has announced an open place. Darkstar_ is a great manager and is very trusted, therefore I am sure he will make the right choice to choose who is suitable to fill vacancies later.

Can you guys just wait and drop an application when the open slot is announced, we all went this but if there's anything I have learnt from past experience, only the best man/woman gets the job especially when luckily your board of focus become the board of interest to chipmixer/darkstar_ or your reputation on the forum would add a net positive advantage to the campaign. Showing signs of desperation won't give you any advantage, don't blow your first or maybe closest shot at getting accepted. Goodluck.

Note3: If you are not applying for a trusted exception, do not PM me your application. It's annoying, it doesn't increase your chances of getting accepted, and I'll just ignore you/tell you to apply on the thread.

Slots (once/if they open) are not first come first serve. There is no reserving spots or a waiting list. I will likely keep applications open for about 2 days and then go through them.
