Hello,

I've ordered 30 GPU's to fit in 5 mining rigs and another 60 (for 10 rigs) within the next two weeks and hopefully expanding with another 240 GPU's within a few months. Electricity isn't a problem but bandwidth and data traffic is, at least temporary. Does anyone have an estimate of how much traffic a single mining rig with 6 GPU's and dual mining would use?

As a temporary solution I've thought about is using a 4G router until we've gotten a phone line to the warehouse for a couple of months.

Thanks!

The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

You don't have to worry about bandwidth being an issue with few rigs connected, but data traffic could be an issue.
I would suggest you to install more than one 4G router and connect less rigs as possible per router.

Do you have any idea about how much one dedicated rig would use in terms of amount of data?

I can't really compare on my home PCs that I use for mining since I do other things on them as well.

not really, the more miners you have wont increase 500mb consumption by adding 2 more. if 6 using 2.2gb it dont add upp.

This question was answered years ago, the consumption is not eqal to how much machines you have, t he soncumption will mostly depend on the connection .

But around and no more than 3gb should it be montly if yo uare using LTE or 3g..

Makes no sense. More GPUs you have, more task you will get, more answers you will send back thus - more data per second. Each GPU work in parallel with others not series. Same as rigs, each rig works in parallel with other rigs, not in series.

the machines are not working on a web, so they are not working on the network, they work alone , by the multiple cpus they got, the only data that goes out is hash information.

, and besides  a person whit 3 posts and explaining wrong stuff, when as said this question has been asked and aswered many times , by LEgendarie members and not a newbie whit 3 posts.

And as said , your calculations dont add upp. i have 10 machines running, they bearly get to 2gb montly. and i guuess most of community can cornfirm this as all miners have control and watch over their mines statistically and economicaly.

It all depends on what kind of GPU you have and how much of them you have. Currently my rigs with GTX 1070 consumes around 350-360MB per month per card (upload/download) solely by miner.

And yes, calculations are done locally, but from server you get tasks to solve and send back your answers. So data consumption is proportional to speed your GPUs work at and what kind of algorithm they use. Faster you GPU makes calculations more tasks it will receive and more answers it will send. My numbers are for ZCash only.

And what does it have to do with post number? That is not an argument.

I gave my statistics under my conditions. As mentioned above, there are lot of variables, that affect that. And wrong? I told my 6gpu rig gets 2.2GB data per month, you said less then 3GB ... I guess with variations between GPUs/algorithms that is around the same.

https://ethereum.stackexchange.com/questions/3138/how-fast-should-be-an-internet-connection-to-mine-eth

this should clarify more the rig mining.

Quote
Mining itself doesn't use that much bandwidth, however syncing the block chain does. For syncing the blockchain using the --fast option it used about 12Gb(Initial sync) and about 100 mb the past 2 weeks. Mining itself used exactly 150mb for the past 14 days.

And? It does not say how many GPUs and it does give that only for ETH mining that have different algorithm so different amount of data received and sent to network. + by context he talks about GPU not GPUs and gives number of 150MB per 14 days so 300MB for GPU per month. That is year ago and does not specify what kind of GPU that is. So my statistics are quite close if my GPU requires 350MB per month as it might be faster then common GPU a year ago.

All your arguments are silly and does not hold if you analyse them so do not go and say my statistics are wrong. That is average from multiple rigs mining ZCash and it is in range of 340-360MB per card.

You give random numbers from random post a year ago "answered Apr 17 '16 at 22:18" I gave specific number stating specific conditions from past month.

I measured the data used the last 12 hours on a mining rig and multiplied it by two, then by 30, which was something just below 3GB per month. As long as they don't use much bandwidth I should be fine with a connection that limits speed to 200kbit/s after the first 3GB is used. If not, I'll just have to increase the data up to unlimited, but it costs more. No need to do that if I'll be fine with 200kbit/s though.

Can confirm this. My 2 rigs with total of 9 gpus consume near 4gb per month. I use unlimited LTE/4G data package over a USB Modem. Works fine for me.

I think my ccminer averages ~300mb/mo give or take.

I use my internet at home for other things, so can't comment further... but before, I remember about that much per month.

its just little blips of data to stratum... not big chunks.

Even t-mobile's cellular "unlimited" reduced-speed internet is more than enough bandwidth to mine off of with several machines at one location.   I use this tactic for gorilla mining ops.

That's excellent to hear, because that's the EXACT service and scenario I've been looking into.  I have plenty of places I could place rigs, but no direct data access at any of them.  Plus, I'm near capping my home's electricity capacity, so if I'm going to expand at all this is about my only remaining option Smiley Smiley

depends what you mine, for ex. eth data sent to the pool is less than zec for example.

Yes, I was about to say. Depends on what you are mining.. I used to have around 25 GPU pointed at ETC under a 3 GB monthly plan and they consumed somewhere between 2.3-2.7 GB of data a month. Whereas Im now mining ZEC and it does surpass that amount by a factor of 2.5x (Didn't glance at the exact amount since I now own unlimited data plan)
