I understand the reason for it, but like others said sometimes it can be annoying, especially if I see something I want to reply to.
Yes! I get wrapped up reading a thread, decide to comment, then realize I'm not allowed to... Can't believe I still don't even have 2 hours logged!

I dont get how the total time logged in is calculated, i lurk these forums all day, and it stays on the same amount
You can see it right under your "hello %username%" caption on the top as well as under "profile" -> "show stats". Make sure to ctrl+f5 your web browser in case it's stored somewhere in cookies. And how it is calculated - it's a different story.. I've had problems with it too, but never figured it out sine my newbies ended pretty fast

Its definitely annoying as others have said but it is needed. I could see it being tough for the many who don't really care to be that active here as far as posting/ reading alot of the minutia

It's funny how I've spent much much more than 4 hours on these forums while being unregistered

It's hard when you need to respond to something like I do now. My situation is that I have been mining at hynodeva.com and was up to about 55 FTC in my account as of yesterday before I went to sleep. I left my cgminer running and when I woke up today I went to check what I was up to(should've been about 75-80 FTC) and now I see zero...NOT a good feeling for me.
coins have been paid to the payoutaddress which was set in your account. hynodeva

Took me quite some time to even find this board. The rules wouldn't be so bad if they were posted in a FAQ page linked to the menu so us newbies know what to do. I'm still looking for a reply button... Do you have to quote a post? Is that the only way to reply? I see several threads at least made every day about how to get out of newbie status and similar things because of the requirement of being online for at least 4 hours while posting at least 5 posts. I was wondering is it really that hard to get out of newbie status?

Why is the newbie status in place please? I'm sure there is a reason, but I don't know where to start looking for that reason. I have learnt quite a bit, thinking about it, but I don't tend to learn very well, in a linear fashion, like reading through things in order. My mind tends to seize up once I try to give it a bit of order and control, so I tend to dip in and out, as if it were a big textbook, and I was dipping in and out of different random pages, depending on what area of expertise I was wanting to learn at that time. Anyway, this post is in danger of getting boring, so.............. ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif)
