The 4 hour restriction is kind of silly. I spent probably 50+ hours lurking this site before creating an account, but have to leave my account logged in for 4 hours just so I can post in the auction threads Sad

+1

I see people saying the 4 hour restriction isn't a big deal because it gives you a chance to read some posts and learn more about cryptocurrencies.  However, if you've already spent hundreds of hours reading posts before registering to post in a thread that's actually interesting and worth posting in, spending 4 hours "learning" is probably moot.

So how does this "Be 4 hours online" thing work exactly.
I've been browsing this forum the last couple of hours and only have:
Code:
Total time logged in: 1 hours and 22 minutes.

So I've been logged in reading posts for quite some time, but just noticed that it shows my logged in time as 0 minutes...Does it only count logged in time from the time of the first post? (I read some comments that seemed to allude to that possibility).

Do you have cookies turned off? That might be a problem. This is my first post but I already see I have a total logged in time of 3 minutes.

For me it shows:
Total Time Spent Online:  40 minutes.

...and this is my very first post.
So you shouldn't have to have posted before it counts your online minutes.

Second that! It starts counting from first log in, my first post just happened, and it says "total Time logged in 15 minutes"

Not sure what's going on for you guys with the no time or time stopped problems. I posted a couple things and went browsing the forum. No problems. I'm new to bitcoin, so I didn't run out of interesting things to read. (still haven't, in fact. Methinks I may  have a new favorite forum!).

4 hours only seems long if you're watching the clock. If you're learning new things, it goes pretty quick.

It

Edit
I was going to say: it causes pointless posts. I was going to use one post per word but it looks like I need to wait 5 minutes between posts. I was goint to do this to reach my 5 post threshold. I get that spam may be a problem, but this is a pain for new users. I'm not even that new, I've been lurking for a while, but it is my belief that if I have nothing useful to say then it's useful to say nothing. My first post here was about a technical question to do with the mtGox websocket API, but I got no replies, most likely because I wasn't posting somewhere people interested in that stuff read. I really don't want to have to make a bunch of meaningless posts, "Hey, BTC is teh bomb!" or somesuch. It's a waste of time for me, anyone who reads such pointless posts, and of the site's bandwidth. Perhaps I'll finally grow past my newbie status in another few months, but I refuse to jump through hoops for anyone, even you guys.

Grrrrrr!
