Here's a pointless post, just to help me reach the 5 I need to slough off the newbie status. This is a waste of time for me and for you. Pointless. See what I mean?

Grrrrr!

I think it is the spirit of being free without restrictions that prompts us to jump out of the Newbie bandwagon
I too am a newbie LOL

Since members come from various back grounds I am sure they bring in diverse knowledge and  points of view and some times this can be restricting. Though I agree about the pointless post issue that you have raised.

I have to agree why rush getting out of newbie status , it just means you not looking to stick around long IMO.
and to just post 5 random posts is also a bit meaningless don't you think. I 'd much rather browse the site (not for 4 full hours straight though) and try and actually add some value
after all isn't that what community is about ?

Avatars aren't available if you've got newbie status?
I have this account for quite a while now, but I'm rather a long time lurker than a poster  Grin

Personally "newbie status" prevented me from making several helpful posts in the past.  The threads weren't in the "newbie" section, and thus I wasn't allowed to post.  The problem with "newbie status" is that it relegates honest users to the kiddie pool.  It certainly has value in stopping spam posts, but I'm sure there are other ways to go about doing it.

Plus, if someone wanted to spam, they would have no trouble creating an account, waiting 4 hours, making 5 spam posts, and then proceeding on to spam the rest of the site.

For me it shows:
Total Time Spent Online:  40 minutes.

...and this is my very first post.
So you shouldn't have to have posted before it counts your online minutes.

HTH.

I just wanted to back this up, the exact same thing happened for me. I started posting rather quickly but this is true, if you lurk, you can make an account which are logged into and it is quite easy to just browse and have the time pass.
