I liked the previous one by Falkvine - but this is full of mistakes (transfers are not instant, there is no $50million in the system, because most bitcoins were never sold or were sold much cheaper then $8 - stuff like this).

None of that $50M (actually lower like you say) is in the system either, it's paid to people who sold coins, it doesn't go 'in' anything. What we do know is that there are 6.3M coins and none of each of their owners declined to trade them for $8.20, so they value them more than that, but we don't know how much more.

Gibson dissing Calacanis and misquoting him as saying "Bitcoin is the worst idea ever" obviously got this from the "most dangerous idea" headline. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLpNGEXLUKY&t=2008s

http://memeburn.com/2011/05/will-bitcoin-be-another-failed-global-ecurrency/and comments (before they get deleted): bitcoin can be divided to 8 decimal places if needed, m8 there is an algorithm which addressing the scalability issue you have mentioned where related to storing growing number of transactions. This is not implemented as of now but it is described in the original paper by Satoshi Nakamoto.
Every user can have practically unlimited number of public keys i.e. bitcoin accounts.
etc.. etc.. etc..
Bitcoin design, is much more complete and elegant than most people able to grasp with a first glance. Spend a week reading and thinking before writing the next article please.
Paragraph after paragraph of your article is about non-problems of bitcoin and about your misunderstanding of it's design.

From the bottom of the article: A version of this article appeared in print on May 30, 2011, on page B2 of the New York edition with the headline: Some Faint Praise for Mr. Ballmer.
Can anyone verify whether Bitcoin actually made the print edition?

Can anyone verify whether Bitcoin actually made the print edition? Who cares about print anymore? I don't mean to be snarky, but seriously, I think we have reached a rubicon with respect to defining legitimacy according to which medium something is inscribed in. Perhaps someone can commission a bronze plaque extolling the virtues of Bitcoin... +1 Or better yet draw pictures of your kill after the hunt with blood on your cave wall. Seriously, cave painting drawings have and always be the only legitimate form of communication.

The point is simply that a web site has unlimited space, so they can publish as many articles as they want. A print publication is space-limited, so making it into print has greater significance due to selectivity.

This is a very good point. This is part of the reason that ancient literature seems to be of higher quality (relative to the time it was published) than modern literature.

I just wrote an article about bitcoin on the back of a postage stamp. Space was really tight, so I think we've hit the big time now.
But yeah, it's kind of dumb, but print adds legitimacy in a lot of people's minds. And it does open to a different audience.
