Uhh, I don't think that those keys really will do anything. I mean, the keyspace is so huge and vast that it would be a dismal effort to check one by one which has some money on it and which doesn't. Also, theoretically brute-forcing bitcoin would require a huge amount of energy enough to drain our sun's own power.

Vitalik Buterin is kinda high on some drugs of some sort.

To me it shows that in a matter of years all balances will go zero. I'm not sure BTC is so safe anymore.

You could just show the message instead of a link. That guy from Ethereum:
Quote
Retweeting for the benefit of those who haven't seen this yet: http://directory.io

After hard-forking for his own financial gain, he's now attacking Bitcoin with FUD. That's just sad.
When will his bubble pop? A 3000% increase in 6 months, what can possible go wrong?

Since I wrote this, Bitcoin is going down. Coincidence? It could very well be Ethereum is indeed attrackting billions of dollars of dumb money.

I hadn't seen this in a while Wink the community already freaked out about this, it's cool.

The site is 100% valid. All those key pairs should work just fine. The thing is, despite all those key pairs that got revealed on the site, there are still so many possible keypairs that the entire site is inconsequential. There are a near infinity of possible bitcoin addresses. If we deplete them, the protocol can be changed. Like above poster said, if anything this points out how robust bitcoin is.

This is also why we should practice good hygiene, and not reuse addresses too much. Whip up a new one, it's the only way to stay pseudonymous.

For those who just don't believe in the safety of the technology, why don't you just go to that list, find out some of Satoshi's old private-key and buy a new Lambo if is that simple?

There are 128 private-keys per page.
904625697166532776746648320380374280100293470930272690489102837043110636675 pages

Number of private-keys: 1.1579209e+77

Good luck finding anything that may have some value. (Don't forget to give me a TIP with your new wallet)

Someone browsing that bunch of useless texts would prolly get dusts among those "private keys". Idk why would someone waste their time browsing through that seeing that it came from ETHs lead dev who hard forked his own coin for self gains. Good luck on believing through some made up shit though. Smiley

Lol that database is damn to large, but the most important thing that people can be victims is to search there by private key to see if their address is there or not!!

I think that that the owner of that website is just joking and making people to search for their addresses or/and their private key and that could be a prank!

Quote
Q: Can I search by private key?
A: Yes. @see API documentation.

Q: Should I search by private key?
A: No. I log and steal everything.

Not sure if Vitalik is trolling or providing a resource.

The site is misleading.  This is a key generator, not an actual Database of private keys.

There are 2^256 possible private keys, or 1.15 x 10^77.

Assuming state of the art drives can hold 100 gigabytes per square inch, and a bitcoin private key is 32 bytes,
this means 3.125 billion keys can be stored per square inch, so a database of all private keys would require 3.7 x 10^67 square inches of area.

Since the earth's surface is only 7.93 x 10^17 square inches, you would need an area equal to 4.67 x 10^49 earths.

That's over 46 trillion Trillion Trillion TRILLION earths.

After seeing the tweet and perusing those addresses I concluded its just a waste of time continue to create panic in the crypto world so I won't add to it by retweeting. I feel he is one of those that are against the continued progression of bitcoin and thought its better he add to the quest and mission of bringing it down.

I also think that this is just a competitive struggle. And she's not very honest. I do not know where the author of the tweet took this data, but I'm sure that they can not harm bitcoin users

If those are fake I guess the real intention of those behind it is to cause big panic enough to bring Bitcoin to its knee.

Those things look fake but still scary. could cause some panic if not addressed

Not sure if Vitalik is trolling or providing a resource

He is scaring people from Bitcoin

This question (about that resource with allegedly all Bitcoin addresses) has already been beaten to death here. It should be obvious and clear to anyone with a half functioning brain that this "directory" cannot possibly contain all those pages enumerated on the front page (anyone is welcome to try searching his private key there and see if their coins don't disappear). Regarding "Vitalik", he might know something (likely not very good for Ethereum), and so he might be trying to deliberately sling mud at Bitcoin

Vitalik has too much time on his hands and too much money. I know Russian trolling is well known and respected around the world but come on, I thought he was better than this. Also, it's about time to change that old picture, he looks like a 15yo.

The truth is that Bitcoin may not be so secure as it seams at first glance, there are some security breaches but I don't think there is much truth in this tweet and there is definetely no need for panic.
Unfortunately every day we witness some attempts to discredit the Bitcoin and some of them are realy lously.

I had huge respect for this guy but know I see he s just another money hungry piece of shit simply trying to push his own product no matter what it costs.

This is why I love BTC and its decentralisation. If you go with centralised projects, there s always some asshole like this guy trying to profit from it.
