Bkk, Is it possible to have the USBs in 2 different directions?
A 'normal' and 'goofy'?
I don't understand the question.

I don't understand the question. Rotate the USB plug along Y 180 degrees

Hes probably wondering how to get 2 of them on ports that are next to each other such as a laptop or pc. If they are oriented in the same way this is impossible without a hub or extension.

I don't understand the question. Rotate the USB plug along Y 180 degrees So you can fit two in a pair of USB ports next to each other. Another option might be a short cable.

yes! The heatsinks would get in the way.

yes! The heatsinks would get in the way. The solution to this would be to make them longer but narrow so that the whole unit is as wide as a USB port (1/2" roughly). Is that a format people would prefer? I think it could be done but may need a taller but long, narrow heat sink. (I really think if you want many of these you would be better looking at the K16 board. I'm pretty sure that they can be filled with less than 16 chips, but cannot say for sure until Avalon docs come out.)

Just get usb extension cables if you are worried about placement! Much easeir than having 2 different usb stick styles or heatsinks etc.

Looking at other options.
My sons' laptop, for example, has 2 usb ports virtually atop each other. If the USBs were oriented in opposing manner, the boards would face each other, and the heatsinks would face away.
As S2s stated, I can just get USB hubs.
But that solution has me thinking...
Earlier in the thread, we discussed that the Avalon chip draws too much juice to put >/= 2 chips on one USB miner.
How, then, do USB hubs get around this?
In friedcat's Eruptor thread, there are a bunch of Eruptors ass-jammed on a USB-hub...
How can the hub handle the power draw, but one USB connector can not?

These are "powered hubs". i.e. they draw power from the wall socket and send juice into them USB things.

Oh absolutely yes. I can't justify $225 for a 300MH/s USB miner. $40-50? Sure! I'll mine for a bit, and then give them to friends and families to get them interested in mining or something.
