Why do people pray?

People pray for different reasons based on their belief of asking what they wanted to happen to them. If you don't pray it means you are resigning to fate in that whatever that wants to happen to  happen. But with deep understanding of how things work beyond the physical, the belief is that prayer can change things, can get you things you don't deserve and because most things we get is based on subjective decision making, it then means you need to appeal to them through prayers. Prayers are requests you can't really demand anything of the Lord, but you can always ask.

The Lord doesn't actively deny you a thing because you don't have it. On the contrary, you have simply not asked for it yet.

And in my personal experience, the Lord will very rarely grant you a wish, that will ultimately harm you. While we are his sheep, sheep must be allowed to roam the entire pasture, despite the snares and pits. With that being said, you don't hand the kids an eight ball and a straw and say 'have fun!'.

And I will go on record as a Christian who has never heard the voice of God. Honestly, it would scare the shit right out of me, at least initially

Perhaps you are very hinting about the situation around people praying, but the reality and I can confirm that many people come to God because of the difficulties in life or through other feelings of grief. No one has come from good to God.

For me Pray is for your faith, when we pray we wish that our wants/needs are will be granted as we woke up or when time that it most be in our side, but sometimes not all prayer will be grant to you, its will testify how strong and weak you are that you must change also praying for thanking God is easier than be a cadger. I'm not saying cadger is bad habit but we must or most do in praying is thanking for everything than waiting for hope that will God provide.

People pray to communicate on their God. Different religion has their own ways to pray to connect. But to argue with trying to change God's will, Yes you are partly correct on to that point. People are still people they want to have what they want not what they needed, They ask for something which is beyond their control and I think that's selfish. Do I think, I know better than God? No, I myself disagree on it. Even though I have my own house, car and some luxury in life, I can live without my parents or relatives to rely on. Not everyone pray for themselves, I have seen people praying for other troubled people. It is a hope to many of us, spiritually, prayer connects us to God and it is like a request which we used to do to our parents when we need something.      Right, some people and honestly even me sometimes we treat God as a genie and we always wish or tell something to him for what we like to happen or something we what to have and that is wrong because God is not genie or a fairy or anything else but He is our saviour.

     Sometimes we try to change God's wil because we want that thing to happen to us, Even though we did not know what will be the consequences of it. Not just people is too selfish and do not care what God's planned to but sometimes we had something we want and the only way is to kneel down and pray for him to gibe us what we want. But at the end what we want will not be granted if it will be not good or us bevause God always know what is the best for us.

     And for me, the right thing we must do when praying is to thank him for our safety and good health especially for our family and loved ones, and beg for his guidance in every decision we make.

If we really feel and believe that God is our parent and creator, than it's naural that we want to talk with him.
In the beginning, like each baby, we don't know how to talk with God, and we can't hear answer.

Yeah, people know that praying to God is not going to change the outcome, but still pray and then blame the God for not altering the reality. Praying with a purpose is just an empty ritual, a manifestation of ignorance.

If your prayer does not involve constant blabbering or demands then it can bring a lot of positivity in your life. Praying is like how the law of attraction works.
