Help With Getting My IOTAs Back from my old wallet!! 1000 USD bounty in btc

here is the story :
I reached out to David(Iota's founder) as well as admins on their slack, but did not get much help.

Let me explain detail what happened; I have bought 9Giota OTC on bitcointalk thread back in July 2016 and stored them on my wallet, which was version 1.0.0-minus1 . And forgot about them till now.

Me being new to altcoins and not paying much attention, I did not update the wallet version, or "claim" my Iotas according to what I read should have been done.

At the moment, I can see in my old wallet the 9Giota, but I am unable to move them or use them.

Anyone of you can advise ?

1000 USD in btc bounty for whomever can recover my IOTAs!

Hi jdlr,
Looks like you're in the same boat as a lot of us.  I purchased my IOTA in August 2016 via bitcointalk using wallet 1.0.3 too. There was apparently a working auto claim process in the wallet until the previous wallet version.  The autoclaim process linked out to an external webpage which would do the magic to send you new funds to your new address.

This automated process was stopped.  No idea why, it was replaced with a post on iota forum to 'Email david at iota' before July 11th 2017, not sure what that means for people missing that window... seems a PR disaster waiting to happen.

Many of us have done this email step but still waiting to receive our IOTA.

Over a month later and still no funds, ETA, explanation as to how the funds are transferred (like where to these new version funds come from, is it from a new pool or simply a special tx needing to be generated?) or a courtesy email to even acknowledge receipt of the claiming email.

I pestered on slack (3 times) to get some transparency and see if David could at least share an update or some transparency on why this is so time consuming to do here in bitcointalk.  One person offered some advice by pointing out the material I already knew and called me paranoid because having a wallet balance still at 0 after a month should not be alarming since 'they're on it' and it just takes time... with no timescale or visibility.

The one bit of information David did share other than the generic announcement was there are only 15 people who are in the manual claims process.  We clearly don't know if that's 15 emails yet 300 went to his spam box.  We also don't know what happens if there is an issue with the email (such as a typo or the wrong seed given, is there a retry/converstion to be had or is it gameover?) Will we even get an acknowledgement of a failed claim for instance?

Generally IOTA need to show they're reputable in restoring people's funds... it's up to them how they resolve this.

I would like to believe David will understand a currency only has value if people have faith in others wanting to accept it, people therefore need to have confidence their funds are secure and the protocol works.

Hi Jdlr, I see on Slack that you contacted David back in June, so you should be fine as long as you sent him your old seed and a new address to receive your claim. Can you see your address (or an address with your balance) in the Round 2 list that CfB posted on the first page of this thread?

Cheers

'Realized like cascrypto that we effectively need to send ID info so Iota be legaly safe and manual claims can be processed.

( it actually dawned on me today that iotatoken is David  Undecided )

Just sent mine to David's email addresses. Fingers crossed...

Hi Ozboom and s2,
In the email I sent david, I did not send him my new IOTA address, as that was before they posted a thread.

What should I be doing now ?

What did you send David before July 11th jdlr? David needs a new address for sending your tokens. If you sent him your seed, you should be fine though I suppose.

Btw Cascrypto, did you send David a scan of your ID? I just sent name, surname & address. David seems to imply that we did something wrong when claiming, which is why our claim did not get through. 'Wish he could email back to fix pending issues...

jdlr, you need to send David a new address, if not what is he to do with your tokens? Make sure you control that address though!

So log into the latest client (2.3.1 > https://github.com/iotaledger/wallet/releases) with a seed you use, or create a new seed, then create an address. Make sure that you have a hard copy of your seed written or printed down somewhere. Then send your new address to David together with your old seed and ID info.

For your ID info, to be on the safe side, send him name, surname, full address, and a scan of your ID where the corresponding data is clearly readable.

When is he expected to send the IOTA to the claimers ?
And why would one need to send him an ID and address ?

Hi Ozboom, seems like you may have had more communication than I have...  when you said "David seems to imply that we did something wrong when claiming, which is why our claim did not get through.", does that mean he's completed the manual claims process?

How did he imply this information?

3) Most of the current (15 or so) manual claimants FAILED to follow the manual claims instructions, therefore it takes a lot longer.

No idea when jdlr, but you need to send your ID data because some claimants have threatened here to sue the Iota Foundation, so the Foundation wants to know who would possibly sue them. Although processing the claims would most probably cancel any intention to sue Smiley
Anyway, we cool people seem to be caught in crossfire  Undecided

I've asked on slack and been told that David is apparently still processing the manual claims.

I've also asked if he could confirm that he would reply in email if there is a problem processing a manual claim, that would put my mind to rest that the funds will eventually be restored or at least have clarity on where we're at.

Right now I'm not sure what stage the claim is at

* They're still waiting to process it because they're busy
* They have processed my claim but gave up because it's not worked.
* If I've missed sending something they are waiting on to continue the process

I have just spoken with David on slack, he explained he's still processing the manual claims.

Dom also explained they have a big announcement about to happen which is why they're all so busy and unable to spend time on the manual claims.

He also gave reassurance that if there was any problems with manual claims he would email people back.  I'm going to leave it a month since it's now reassuring to hear it's still in process and he will contact us if there is an issue.

The snapshot won't solve your problem but it means that "due time" is approaching at a fast pace. Sorry, couldn't provide more info earlier, we try not to reveal the future plans.

To have this on record:

As advised, I have just sent david my new IOTA address, my name and residential address with proofs.

anything else needs to be done ?

It would be good to get acknowledgement from David or any of the IOTA team that "the request has been received and is being dealt with"

I've not sent my proof of ID but happy to if that is necessary to process the reclaim.
It wasn't part of the original requirement posted pre July11th so unless David mentions it directly seems an unnecessary step?
