No you can post in any topic that's not in the "off-topic" subsection off the forum.
You can post there too ofcourse, but those posts will not be counted.

However when I was accepted it says I need to load a balance of at least 100 onions to receive the drop, does this mean I need to purchase some to be included in the airdrop?  Thanks.

Your airdrop address should have a minimum of 100 Deep Onions to be qualified for the airdrop. You can buy or take part in giveaways (on the Deep Onion forum) or bounty programs.

Participating in the Deep Onion forum will reward you DeepPoints which is used for a separate airdrop (on Sundays) that has not minimum balance rule. Get Onion in Sunday airdrop to qualify for the main airdrop (on Fridays).
