I think there are several factors:
1. because bitcoin is the first created cryptocurrency
2. a limited coins
3. a more stable value
4. the existence of trust so much to invest
5. bitcoin exchange rate is greater than other coins
6. Increased use of bitcoin

I believe that they're popular mainly because well it was the first of all cryptocurrencies to be made. Honestly, most of the other coins are scams and greedy ways that the developers make money. The only other coin I can think of that isn't a scam are dogecoins! What do you think?

You’re right, main reason is that Bitcoin was created much earlier than others. But you say, that other currencies are scam. You shouldn’t forget about Ethereum. It could compete with BTC in future. It has good perspectives connected to its fast and cheap transactions + smart contracts.

Dogecoin was a joke that becomes a massive hit. It started as joke really to make fun of bitcoin but until now it has survived and even created a market for itself. Now for the reason why bitcoin has become popular was because it was the first of its kind to enter into the market exchange. It has been banned, It was all in the news. It was like a star on its own creating a name each day. Bitcoins was created not to be regulated by any government. And many investors like this idea. This rebellious nature allows a good chance for investors at bypassing government regulations and taxes.

It's price is volatile that is why it can increase or decrease fast depending on it's market demand. Also some coin just copying the algorithm, etc or just develop what's already in the bitcoin and make his own coin. bitcoin is good option to earn money than other alt coins.other currencies has chances to gambling and scams.

It has become an investment more because of its value.
These were the key points for your question, as there are many other altcoin doing relatively good, but are not able to come close to Bitcoin’s success.
