We see that the total majority of miners (including Jihan Wu's Antminer) are kinda signaling their support for SegWit2x. At the same time, Jihan promised to come up with his own Bitcoin. Could he and his puppets withdraw their vote at the last minute and actually fork Bitcoin the hard way? I think they can, and what's most scary in all this, they might be accumulating hashing power right now (and might have been doing so for many months already) to release the kraken when the right time comes and quickly bring the opposing chains down to their knees. This is just one of the many scenarios which I don't think of as completely impossible

Im not expert but i can give you some advice that can help you with that first it is not bad or good ti buy bitcoin this month but to make sure wait for august and see what really happens on that month second if you buy right now make sure that you can grow your money before august 1 and sell them all and then buy again and start earning some profit again.

Stay away from seeing the charts so that you won't be forced to sell when you are seeing the price of bitcoin falling. I suggest to read some of the possible scenarios that might happen after August 1st. Somehow by reading those, you can make a plan on what should you do that you think you will not regret. There are lots of websites already on the web about that and some here:

i am agree with your said and its better to stay calm with any news we read. i think if we are not panic, we can handle our emotion when we see the chart is down and its better doing another activity while we waiting the next news about the segwit. but if we decide to sell our bitcoin, then we don't need to regret or sad if in next hour or next day the price is increase.

IMO, this is a perfect opportunity to sell your coins. If you want to purchase additional Bitcoins, then you can wait until the end of August, when things will be more clear.

I believe it it is time to diversify. I have always been looking for a buy and hold type of cryptocurrency but I have not found one yet. I wanted to invest in ETH but the fork discouraged me to do it. Then I started looking at ETC but that is the DAO hacker's way of cashing out his "earnings". LTC is another one I like but Jihan Wu has his fingers in it also. The final worthy choice I have is Monero, the development team is smart and I believe some of them is qualified to be Bitcoin Core developers. Small dark markets have started accepting XMR for payments which is good for utility. But the price is too high now.

I might end up holding Bitcoin until August 1. Please advice me.

If this alternative Bitcoin shows decent profits, people will use it and no amount of determent or reproach will stop them

I believe it is economically not viable to fork bitcoin.
I remember in march hitbtc.com went ahead and featured BTU. I got my BTU, sold it faster than lightning to buy BTC (at irrelevant price, dumped it on the highest buy order). Now it is traded at 0.032 BTC / BTU, so it has a value of 3.2% of BTC and the daily volume is 1 BTC, basically downgraded to a p/d coin. You can still trade it and possibly make profit, but future = 0.
However, i don't trust big miners. This is the SMS i got from BTC and it is on their site too:
