As others have stated it is not really possible to get them back.

Got the phone still? Aa it data may be recoverable.

What phone did he use and what storage method (app)?

Hopefully this won't turn him off completely. You would not believe the amount of coins lost due to similar situations. Sadly.

Another lost bitcoins. That is so unfortunate for your friend but I hate to tell you that there is no way for him to get those back. He should learn his lesson that next time always have a backup of everything that's in his phone especially like those precious private keys. There are lots of wallet right now that asks for email or phone numbers for you to retrieve your account. You can even connect your account to facebook. In my part, I have a notebook where I write my online accounts, usernames and passwords just in case I forget any of them. But I also make sure that what I wrote in that notebook no one who happens to see will think that those are my accounts information (unless they are Michael Scofield of prison break).  Cheesy

I don't think there is any possibility of recovering the private keys. Well, you can find out wallet address if you have private keys but vice versa isn't possible. However, if you can find that phone or any backup of it (either on your PC or in the cloud storage account), then you can probably recover your funds through that way. Make sure you are taking and maintaining a secure backup of your mobile wallet to avoid such circumstances in future.

Nope...Just curious, how many bitcoins is it? lol.

Well goodbye bitcoin for him. It's so impossible to recover it. Like you're having golds in your hand and in just a blink of an eye it disappears in the thin air.

I have a similar story without the happy end. A friend of mine remind that he bought 20 BTC years ago just for fun and forgot about it, he remind about it one evening when I was talking about Bitcoin and what success it reached, and he was like: "hey man, I have some, but I don't even remember where it is blah blah"

If he used an online web wallet there is maybe a thing to do to get access again to it. He may be able to identify where the wallet is hosted with Walletexplorer.com Once he find where it is, he may be able to reset the password via email. Once it's done boom, he get the bitcoin back.
For 20 BTC it's good enough to spend some time to try

No. Unless or Until the recipient voluntarily returns them, there is no way you can get them back. And I'm afraid you'll never find someone this generous  Grin

So far I have never seen a person who lost his private key can take back the bitcoin that is in the wallet. I never lost a private key 1 time, and it really hurts. I guess it can not be friends, and if it can, it might be difficult.

He lost 0.58 so nothing major, he can still see the balance on the blockchain so he no doubt he'll be watching that balance grow in the future, he remembers it was worth around $110 at the time.
Sad to see he lost $1000 at today's rate, but by the rate when he bought it it's not much of a loss to him. Well I'm pretty sure he is going to regret that he didn't made a backup, in a few years when that 0.58 maybe be worth a lot more than what he invested.

Sorry, but your friend may have lost his BTC. Only way to have access to his wallet is via that private key

No.  Tell your friend to forget about it. Although it is very sad. Your personal keys are needed to rescue your friends Bitcoin. Private keys are the only way to access your bitcoin, but  you will not be able to access your address if you lose your keys. Your currency will be lost forever There is no benefit to cry for this. Forget it.

I'll try to offer some hope.  Smiley

IF your friend was using an online app that merely manages a remote wallet then there may be a chance. Some ios wallets, for example, allow you to restore your wallet by re-downloading their app and entering your seed or pass-phrase.

Does your friend know what wallet he was using?

Well the only thing for life to make it easier and to move forward is acceptance. Grin. Sorry but of you will read all the post here, there is no way you could get back your bitcoins.  I remember someone asked me to write all the password in a notebook so I always do it just like with my bitcoin.  To think that probably it really big now but you have to accept the fact that you should start now and forget it.  Harsh truth but is the best way, I guess.

It is gone forever,i think nothing you can do now. It is the private keys that can only unlock your wallet.

I think its better to suggest on bitcoin coin developer, say a wallet that inactive something like 10 years should be recovered and put to charity. Smiley We do not have actual date but I think there are many btc already that was forgotten or ca not be accessed by owners. At least, bitcoin can be put back in circulation.

Like others said, its gone forever. Sadly you can not recover it anymore  Sad
But hey! At least you/he learned a lesson. Next time you have bitcoins stored, make sure to make a backup (remind your friends too Wink ). A good lesson learned by sacrificing some coins Smiley

A friend of mine had some Bitcoin on his phone a couple of years ago and he's lost that phone which stored the private keys on without any other backup. We can see his balance on the blockchain and he knows his password for the private keys. Is there a way of creating the private key from the bitcoin address and the known password?
It is so sad sir but that bitcoin on his phone cannot be recover anymore. Some tip but I want to say that put all the information in a mail so that it is safe all through out the times that has passed. The private key is the thing that is badly needed on all wallets. So remember to store it to safety.
