A friend of mine had some Bitcoin on his phone a couple of years ago and he's lost that phone which stored the private keys on without any other backup. We can see his balance on the blockchain and he knows his password for the private keys. Is there a way of creating the private key from the bitcoin address and the known password?

It's the keys duty to open up your treasure chest (wallet). And if you lost the keys there's no way to open it for you mate. The only possible way to recover those bitcoins is when you had recovered the phone and check the private keys and restore your wallet. This is a lesson learned, try to write your keys on a plain paper next time.

This is the only option left for you to just go and tell him that no one can help you with recovering your bitcoin as private keys are main to rebuild the wallet and use your bitcoins. Just forget and move forward in life.

What type of phone was it, was there any type of cloud storage on that phone?  Since you said there is no other backup, I am assuming that means no.

Did he have 1password or any other program on that phone that could have potentially backed up and of the important files that are needed?

Those could theoretically be somewhere in the cloud if any of his apps were writing backups to dropbox or something like that...

No. Private keys is the only way to access your bitcoin but if you lost your private keys, you cannot access your address so, your coins will be lost forever. If you are thinking that you can brute force it, forget it. It will take a million years or longer before you can found your private key so, next time make a back up of your private keys..

He lost 0.58 so nothing major, he can still see the balance on the blockchain so he no doubt he'll be watching that balance grow in the future, he remembers it was worth around $110 at the time.

.58BTC? its worth 10x by now if his initial investment is $110. And just like what others have said, you need your private keys to retrieved your friends bitcoin. I also have lost bitcoins in the past, and the only thing that cheers me up is that I can earn that bitcoin back. It will took me months though to be able to at least break even with my investment.

First i think you must share first if what actually the software or wallet you are using in the phone i don't see any wallet name you mention above.. i just clarify that what wallet you are using if you are using a wallet that can recover even in email account you can recover your wallet in other phone..
But if you using a wallet without adding an email and only gives seeds  and private key for recover and you are not holding it.
Expect that there are no ways to recover your bitcoin except if you can get your phone back..

Sadly it's a no.
Just kindly tell your friend to let it go and forget about it.
Take this as a lesson, so in the future he will have a backup beforehand.

And it was around BTC.58? wow, that's a lot you know.

Really no way to recover the phone?

If reverse a public key would be possible for us, then there would not be Bitcoin anymore by now.

No you cant get it back, once you lose the keys then its lost forever and the one who have possible access is the one who holds the phone. If hes knowledgeable he would would anytime get those coins and steal it.Its just an easy money for him. Theres no way to create another private key on that wallet and this is how bitcoin works. 1 address= 1 unique key, once lost then say goodbye completely into your bitcoin.

As others have stated it is not really possible to get them back.

Got the phone still? Aa it data may be recoverable.

What phone did he use and what storage method (app)?

Hopefully this won't turn him off completely. You would not believe the amount of coins lost due to similar situations. Sadly.

Another lost bitcoins. That is so unfortunate for your friend but I hate to tell you that there is no way for him to get those back. He should learn his lesson that next time always have a backup of everything that's in his phone especially like those precious private keys. There are lots of wallet right now that asks for email or phone numbers for you to retrieve your account. You can even connect your account to facebook. In my part, I have a notebook where I write my online accounts, usernames and passwords just in case I forget any of them. But I also make sure that what I wrote in that notebook no one who happens to see will think that those are my accounts information (unless they are Michael Scofield of prison break).  Cheesy

I don't think there is any possibility of recovering the private keys. Well, you can find out wallet address if you have private keys but vice versa isn't possible. However, if you can find that phone or any backup of it (either on your PC or in the cloud storage account), then you can probably recover your funds through that way. Make sure you are taking and maintaining a secure backup of your mobile wallet to avoid such circumstances in future.

I have a similar story without the happy end. A friend of mine remind that he bought 20 BTC years ago just for fun and forgot about it, he remind about it one evening when I was talking about Bitcoin and what success it reached, and he was like: "hey man, I have some, but I don't even remember where it is blah blah"

If he used an online web wallet there is maybe a thing to do to get access again to it. He may be able to identify where the wallet is hosted with Walletexplorer.com Once he find where it is, he may be able to reset the password via email. Once it's done boom, he get the bitcoin back.
For 20 BTC it's good enough to spend some time to try

So far I have never seen a person who lost his private key can take back the bitcoin that is in the wallet. I never lost a private key 1 time, and it really hurts. I guess it can not be friends, and if it can, it might be difficult.

He lost 0.58 so nothing major, he can still see the balance on the blockchain so he no doubt he'll be watching that balance grow in the future, he remembers it was worth around $110 at the time.
Sad to see he lost $1000 at today's rate, but by the rate when he bought it it's not much of a loss to him. Well I'm pretty sure he is going to regret that he didn't made a backup, in a few years when that 0.58 maybe be worth a lot more than what he invested.

Sorry, but your friend may have lost his BTC. Only way to have access to his wallet is via that private key

I'll try to offer some hope.  Smiley

IF your friend was using an online app that merely manages a remote wallet then there may be a chance. Some ios wallets, for example, allow you to restore your wallet by re-downloading their app and entering your seed or pass-phrase.

Does your friend know what wallet he was using?

Well the only thing for life to make it easier and to move forward is acceptance. Grin. Sorry but of you will read all the post here, there is no way you could get back your bitcoins.  I remember someone asked me to write all the password in a notebook so I always do it just like with my bitcoin.  To think that probably it really big now but you have to accept the fact that you should start now and forget it.  Harsh truth but is the best way, I guess.

It is gone forever,i think nothing you can do now. It is the private keys that can only unlock your wallet.

I think its better to suggest on bitcoin coin developer, say a wallet that inactive something like 10 years should be recovered and put to charity. Smiley We do not have actual date but I think there are many btc already that was forgotten or ca not be accessed by owners. At least, bitcoin can be put back in circulation.

Like others said, its gone forever. Sadly you can not recover it anymore  Sad
But hey! At least you/he learned a lesson. Next time you have bitcoins stored, make sure to make a backup (remind your friends too Wink ). A good lesson learned by sacrificing some coins Smiley

A friend of mine had some Bitcoin on his phone a couple of years ago and he's lost that phone which stored the private keys on without any other backup. We can see his balance on the blockchain and he knows his password for the private keys. Is there a way of creating the private key from the bitcoin address and the known password?
It is so sad sir but that bitcoin on his phone cannot be recover anymore. Some tip but I want to say that put all the information in a mail so that it is safe all through out the times that has passed. The private key is the thing that is badly needed on all wallets. So remember to store it to safety.

Sorry if I have to answer, if you have lost it, you need to keep the necessary seed and personal lock information, which is the only way to get your money back.

you need to be very careful when operating your wallet as far as cryptocurrecy is concern, your private key is like your ATM password and when you lost it,you lost access to your account and money, there is no way you will be able to get it back, your bitcoin are gone and you should learn from this lesson that whenever you lost your phone and private key you lost your bitcoin

good to see you share a useful experience, its warning for me and some people who have wallet on phone and forget to back up the private keys, its important for us to keep up safe and make sure we have a copy of private keys, because if you lost like op story, its a horrible accident, how much your friend lost that bitcoin? it can't back i think.

This is why there will be instructions to write your private key or seed in physical format. It's never safe to store your private keys and seeds on devices. You can't get that coins back now. It's gone for good.

Do you have the seed? If you do then you could recreate the wallet and recover your funds, but if you don’t then I’m sorry to tell you that the coins are lost forever, if it was possible to know the private key deriving it by having the address then bitcoin will be incredibly vulnerable to any attack.

I agree that every wallet we must add the key in order to secure your own bitcoin from those people who have malicious intent. so we do not give a chance to other people to access our account and opening our wallet contents, but we should not forget our own key because we have forgotten it then the risk we will lose the wallet contents or bitcoin we collect with difficulty so useless if we reproach the bitcoin will not return by itself.

When you lost the key to your house, you can still call the locksmith. And tada, everything's gonna be fine. But when you lost the key to your Bitcoin wallet, you cannot call no one. And tada, everything's gone. If the phone is still reachable and rings then you have a chance. But I doubt it because it was lost a couple of years already. I think there's such a thing as good bye after all.

There is no way to get it back, yes you can still see the balance in blockchain but your friend forgot the private key because you have to save with the private key to keep your bitcoin safe.

If you want to retrieve the coin you must have private keys or the path to your wallets from email
Without them you will not get it back

Yes, private key is always the answer in everything so always have your back up at some piece of paper. It's the least you can do for your precious coin.

the first thing to do when you deal with money like bitcoin is to do a backup, nothing else is more important, now there is no way to get those back, unless you find the phone again

but see the positive thing, you contributed to make bitcoin more rare now by losing that tiny 0.58, but the bad news is thta you also lost a phone and i hope it's not an expensive one, or your loss would be far greater

In this digital and paperless age bro, sometimes a little piece of paper and pen will help... and could have saved millions. That is now a lost bitcoin. Sorry to say that. I think that will never be retrieved. The private key is needed. Your password will not be of help without the private key.

Next time, try to think that a pen and paper is stronger than the most expensive smartphone in this world. At least, when it comes to saving very important codes such as a private keys.

Truly it's not possible to get back lost bitcoin.Only private keys are the only way to get bitcoin. Without it you can't access on it.If you lost it then forget it.And move for your new bitcoin.

There's no way to get it back, sorry. The word "Private" mean something hidden from other but not from the owner. So i feel so sorry for you. Private key is the only thing which give us access to your bitcoins and wallet settings. As we know every wallet contain high security which are unbeatable. Maybe contacting them can help you other wise there's no chance.

No, personal lock is the only way you can unlock your wallet, if you lose it, I think no one can help you get back BitCoin lost.
Try to recover your private key on your computer or cloud storage

I think you can restore your humanity with another phone. But if you give a personal key to the restoration of using a wallet without adding an email and you are not holding it. Hope you have no way to recover your bitcoin without getting your phone back.

Once you lose the private keys to your bitcoin wallet your bitcoins are gone forever there is no way around it. It was designed to keep your bitcoins safe and that is exactly what it is doing now. Even you can't break into your own account when you lose your private keys. Next time, it's advisable to write down your private keys and keep them somewhere safe.

Since the private keys are on the phone which he lost then the bitcoin is gone forever as you cannot hack an account with private keys activated if you do not have the private keys.

Bitcoin is an encrypted digital currency. Therefore, when losing the code, it is difficult to obtain. And this is also a safety advantage for the Bitcoin picker. Why do not you save your code to another device or tool?

Is this a serious question? LOL

Practically, it's not possible. Otherwise, bitcoin's value would be a flat zero by now.

There is no way you can get your bitcoin on that wallet back unless you have the private key. Those keys are hardly encrypted. Try to check on cloud storage, other devices or emails. The fact that a wallet is made very secured because of those private keys.

No smart person will keep a secret key on the phone. If the phone is lost then the bitcoin wallet and you can forget additionally there is a probability that the one who has found this phone can easily take advantage of this code.If he of course knows about this.My advice is never to keep secret information on your phone

A friend of mine had some Bitcoin on his phone a couple of years ago and he's lost that phone which stored the private keys on without any other backup. We can see his balance on the blockchain and he knows his password for the private keys. Is there a way of creating the private key from the bitcoin address and the known password?
it seems to be difficult if you lose your wallet key, or private key, even if you know about passwords, key private is the key to open your wallet, this time it's time you can take lessons for the future to be more careful, and you can write key private in a regular book for you to back up.

It's the keys duty to open up your treasure chest (wallet). And if you lost the keys there's no way to open it for you mate. The only possible way to recover those bitcoins is when you had recovered the phone and check the private keys and restore your wallet.

I do not think there will be any way to recover your lost friends Bitcoin, maybe it is your friend's misfortune. this is a lesson for us, that we must save the privat key of our wallet, just in case of loss or our Smartphone is damaged.

He lost 0.58 so nothing major, he can still see the balance on the blockchain so he no doubt he'll be watching that balance grow in the future, he remembers it was worth around $110 at the time.

Wow, it was not major at the time you mentioned but with current rates it is about $6000 and I will not be surprised if it is worth $100000 in next 5 years. This can be really depressing for your friend. I suggest him to stop seeing the progress of that money as it will make him sad only. He should better start making new investments and watch them grow. He will not get much for $110 now but he can contribute each month and then all of it will add up.

It will be so hard to really retrieve that not unless your friend had the private key. This is the main reason why we should be having backup of keys to avoid problems like this. Bitcoin is anonymous in nature and there is no way of retrieving it using KYC option unlike in most online money transfers where they have a system. Unfortunately bitocoin is not this type so its a bit risky to lost millions in this example.

So sad that he can't recover his bitcoin because he lost the private key. Private key is the very important to remember,if you lost it you will lost your wealth. It's shame he lost that coins which is very valuable at this moment since the year it was created. This will be a lesson for everyone here in crypto world that be careful with our password and private key because we are the only liable for it. We are the only care taker of our own wallet/wealth.

i dont think its can be recover, yeah im also lost some wallets that i use several years ago. this technology is very safe and anonymous, you can look at the address that very complicated, its like a code you can't remember it with your head. and finally in fact, that this is the consequence when we forget and leave bitcoin some time ago, your old bitcoin account will not remember and leave you either. LMAO just move on dude, create a new one if you really interested with cryptocurrency life.

No , your friend will not get it back. Treat it is a lesson and save all the information properly for future investments. Especially, in case of new coins which are cheap and thus you may become careless with precautions.

I'm afraid the only way to recover Bitcoins from and address is by the private key itself. If the password you're referring to is of an exchange app, I suggest contacting the app/company about it so that they can give you the private key or the Bitcoins.

Can't, your friend must be willing to lose the bitcoin he has forever. The private key is the most important and keep it in the safest place.

You can find out the wallet address if you have a private key but on the contrary it's impossible. If you can find a cellphone or backup either on your computer or on a cloud storage account. You can recover your funds through that method. Make sure you can maintain a safe backup of your cellphone wallet to avoid such conditions in the future. Cool

This is what must be used as a lesson and experience of course, to be able to always maintain and make a backup key of our wallet to avoid things like this, because when we lose the key or forget and lose our cellphone, of course it will be difficult for us to get our assets again.

well, this can only be used as learning for the future. I was convinced that it was very difficult to restore, and even I had never heard of anyone ever taking back the BTC he had when he lost his private key.

That is the more reason we are always advice to store our private keys in a safe place such as creating a hardware copy of the security keys in that case being very hard to be misplaced and easily accessible when emergency arrive. I have a friend who also lost a lot of bitcoin due to lose of security keys.

It is impossible to recover your bitcoin without privet key because it is more than a safe zone and you must recover that phone to recover your coin.

Without private key its not possible to open the wallet in other phone or laptop even if you have password, the only way is if phone recovered and it was not reset to factory settings, it is always recommended to write private key on paper or store it a h/w wallet or somewhere you can access it anytime, good luck.

You asked if you could get your Bitcoin back. I do not understand what you mean. If you store Bitcoin in your electronic wallet but lose your password, you can find the password, but it will be very difficult and time consuming. If you have lost your electronic wallet from a hacker or someone, that means you can not get your Bitcoin back. Xin chin sad with you.

Of course not. If you lose the key to entering a Bitcoin wallet, then you lose your Bitcoin forever.

So from that, keep your wallet and key in a safe place. If necessary, do a gradual backup.

no, private wallet key is the only access to your wallet.
without a private key, your wallet password doesn't work at all.

I believe there is no way of retrieving any lost bitcoin of you don't have any access to their keys. In short your friends bitcoin is lost forever. Always store keys in safe places where you can have access all the time and please always have backup keys for safety and emergency purposes. You may not know when you gonna need them.

When you lost your bitcoin there is no turing back because there's no device who can trace your wallet address. You are the one who is reponsible for your account that is why we called privacy because you are the only one who knows your account unless you told it to others.

there a way of creating the private key from the bitcoin address and the known password and private keys is the only way to access our bitcoin but if we lost our private keys, we cannot access our address our token will be lost forever. you are thinking that you can brute force it, forget it will take a million years or longer before you can found your private key so, next time make a back up of your private keys..

I do not think that he can be able to recover his bitcoin back because private key is must for every crypto coins you are holding. If your friend created
a wallet with blockchain.info you should know wallet ID along with password. Do not be careless with your money, you should take a backup of every coins you are holding.

This is very sad. Unfortunately there is no other way to get back your friend's bitcoin. The only way to open it is the private key. Your friend should have printed it in a paper for back-up.

We all know that bitcoin is very sustainable and volatile crypto currency and one of its important characteristic is that its transactions provide us the most secure and confidential transactions and thus it provides user anonymity by providing peer to peer transactions and thus it is next to impossible to steal or hack any bitcoin information unless and until you keep your keys and passwords very secure and confidential, one I sent bitcoin to someone accidentally and then I was unable to get my bitcoins back without his will and I just got hacked.

The bitcoin blockchain is a public record, so you can look up any address you 'd like, but you will not be able to spend the coins they contain unless you know the private key, and that principle is absolute. that is why we have to disperse backups in another safe place

You can create a new password but you cannot change your private keys. You must know where to put your private keys in the right place and I think our phone is not a good storage for private keys. I think it is better to put your private keys in your email, as long as you can handle to manage your email and to save it or maybe if you have a Dropbox account.

Nope.
Is this a quality post? Compoed of only 1 word or 4 letters? He got 1 merit which others hard to earn. Where is justice?

Anyway, if you lose your private keys, assume also that your wallet is gone. Protect your keys and become more wise in securing your assets so that you will not blame yourself when there is a bad thing happens for your wallet. If you lose the key then just make new one because you cannot recover it forever.

Definitely no. There is no one that can access your wallet except for youself. But one can access it unless one had phished out the private key for ones digital wallet. However, if one does know how to secure his/her digital wallet's private key then definitely no one could phished you out and access your digital wallet even the team who made that digital wallet could never access it.

We cant stop people from hacking someones wallet. You cant get back your bitcoin if someone hacked it. The only thing to avoid being hacked is to be careful on where you put your wallet key, because if someone that have knowledge on accessing it, your investments might be steal to you.

Well i agree on that. I beleive that we need to be more careful or prudence regarding to our private key. This thing is really the most important in bitcoin or maybe token on the crypto feild because we need the private key to access our wallet. So then I believe that we need to make some back up for security purpose. Because there are so many hackers that can get our tokens or coin if we do not take good care of it.

I think we are the one who are responsible of taking care of our bitcoin. And if it will lose because we don't take care of our private key maybe it is our fault and we cannot blame others. Because bitcoin today is really like gold, if we don't take care of it someone can still it in our hands and it will never be back.

Yeah, this is the saddest part in this technology as no other remedy if you lost your private keys and forgot to make a back-up files. For myself, whatever the amount in my wallet I make it sure that I have at least 3 copies of my private keys that has safely place in a different location to avoid this kind of problem in the future.

To be able to open a bitcoin storage locker, you must have information on the location of the locker. This information is called a private key. Bitcoin has 2256 lockers that can be used to store bitcoin, bro. This figure, if maximized, will be around 1077. For comparison, the amount of sand on the earth is estimated to be around 7.5 x 1018, very much smaller than the number of bitcoin addresses that you can use.

It's just that i can say. Thank you Grin Grin Cheesy

Bitcoin blockchain did not has recover or forgeting  password reset option, this automatically means when you lose your private key or password you have lose you coin. So for you to get your bitcoin back you need locate your private key if note no way.

A friend of mine had some Bitcoin on his phone a couple of years ago and he's lost that phone which stored the private keys on without any other backup. We can see his balance on the blockchain and he knows his password for the private keys. Is there a way of creating the private key from the bitcoin address and the known password?

he can get access to his account because these days the private keys are not really necessary when it come to accessing ones account but if sane questions are to be asked, i will like to know how he got to open his account and via what website or wallet application. that will be a take off point.

I think we can't do anything like that, we should first before losing we have to be careful in having a private key, because each person never knows how their future fate, whether good or bad, is certainly not known to us.

Chances to you to restore the lost key is reduced to zero. This is the most important rule when storing bitcoins to keep in a good and safe place all your key files. You will only probably a quantum computer that will be able to pick up the key. I repeat quantum computer, and where to get it?

I am looking for a good signature. Here could be your advertisement

if you lost your private key, this is the end, you can get the private key anymore, because private key is unique and never generated twice, my suggestion is you need to save it on the offline hardware with USB or paper wallet

yes it is a very terrible thing, I am also grateful because I have not experienced it, because I am like you, I am very careful in taking care of it, if that is the case, you will experience great losses. when that happens, you don't get frustrated, you have to be patient and keep working hard, so you don't stress

Password play just a little role on btc wallet the private is 100% needed for you to carry out any transaction so you need that phone to get to private keys in order to access your wallet successfully without that private keys your bitcoin is loss forever sorry dude.

Yes I think it is depend upon us on how we take good care of our private key. We are responsible for our own safety, bitcoin is really a safest thing but it depend upon the situation and also with the holders, I think we need to be more careful on the crypto feild for good.

It was a disaster that happened because of our own ignorance. Private keys are the only way to enter, so the security of the code is unique and complicated. Therefore it must be stored in a safe place, if necessary to store it in a safe place manually. Bitcoin is a digital asset, the protection system must be more than just storing on cellphone. Cellphone is lost, bitcoin is lost.

Well say goodbye to his bitcoin because without the private keys he won’t be able to retrieve those coins. Keep in mind that we need to back up the private keys to be able to retrieve the coins that we have.

I think that "some" means a lot of money already today but unfortunately, he lost the very important key that can only open his bitcoin's wallet. There is no other way to get your bitcoin back since the key was lost already unless if your friend made a backup of it. That is why i really made a good backup of my private keys. I saved them in a flashdrive, encrypt them and place them on a place where i only know.

some wallets can only be open with a password , pin code , or any other methods that doesnt need a private keys  but if he uses a wallet that can only be open by a single method and that method is via private key but unfortunately he also lost his private keys , then i guess he  is doomed . theres no chances of recovering it  .

oh i forgot , i heard some softwares lately that can be able to recover deleted files and i think this can help someone who accedentally deletes or lost his private keys .

I think that it is very difficult at the moment to say that it is impossible because when you lose your phone, there is no information on the amount of Bitcoin you have. any backup or private key. You should take that as a lesson later.

no, if you lose your private key you will not be able to access your address again, because the private key is the only way to access your bitcoin so if you lose the private key, you will not be able to get your bitcoin again, so it's better to forget it.

If you have your password, your wallet 🆔 (not address), you could access your wallet anytime, I assume you are using blockchain.info wallet, In a situation where you have been using an app, and only have the password to the app, you would need your private keys to access the account

I am quite sure at the moment recovering of private keys to access the contents of the wallet will be very difficult. This is why it is important that what is mined is not stored on a device but on a cold wallet and may be in the cloud. To lose a device holding precious assets like the bitcoin is to regret when the prices are up and you are desperately in need of cool cash! Its quite difficult to recover private keys bro!

What is the wallet of your friend ? It is sad to hear that the back up is also on that phone. Your friend should also have a copy on his/her laptop or flashdrive or maybe encrypt it into a private account online. Regarding the password, I am not really sure. Maybe yes you can recover it. Just log in the account using the password then try tp explore the wallet if you can get its private key. If you recover it, make sure your friend will transfer the bitcoin into a much safer wallet.

well, I've also lost bitcoin because of private keys. believe me, i have also done everything, but that doesn't bring good results. Well, what needs to be done when losing is to be patient and go back to searching for bitcoin.

I do not want to upset you, but most likely you will not be able to resume access to your bitcoin. A few years ago, almost no one knew about bitcoin, and so your friend thought it was not important. It is hurts

It was designed to keep your bitcoins safe and that is exactly what it is doing now. Even you can't break into your own account when you lose your private keys. Next time, it's advisable to write down your private keys and keep them somewhere safe.
