Another one bites the dust, bitmixer.io is legendary in this space, very sad seeing them go. It is better to be safe tan sorry though.
Yeah, but I think it's neither the general problem of bitmixer, nor the problem of bitcoin mixers at all. Folks using bitcoin as a mean for criminal activity could and will eventually use cryptocurrencies that don't have a public blockchain at all. For me, bitcoin mixing as such is a way of giving legit users a chance for fulfilling their right of privacy. Exactly this. For fuck sake Bitcoin transactions are public! They absolutely need mixer services because if you even send your coins to a friend they will easily see how much bitcoins you have left that went to a change address. Blackmailers and ransom software can abuse this to extort more money from their victims. By closing your service you are helping the criminals! Thank god projects such as Byteball are gaining traction. Byteball's blackbytes have even better anonymity than zcash, best anon coin out there. Payments are truly peer-to-peer and only the transaction hash is stored on the public ledger, everything else remains private. Friend: Dude, can I borrow ten bucks? Mr. Money Bags: <pulls thousands from his pocket and peels off a sawbuck> Here you go, bud. Friend: Dude, what a fuckin wad! Can I borrow another hundred? <in normal life> Friend: Dude, can I borrow ten bucks? Mr. Money Bags: <pulls out a bunch of singles and counts to ten> Here you go, bud. Leaves me a tad short, but I'll manage. Friend: Thanks, man. I'll get this back to you ASAP. Maybe you could * gasp* keep most of your bitcoins in cold storage and only carry around an amount that if you got robbed you wouldn't want to off yourself! Just a thought. I don't carry around thousands in my wallet so why would I with bitcoins?

Even if a person kept most of their holdings in cold storage, I don't believe most people would know how to break the link from the transaction where they sent those funds to cold storage. Given this situation, it wouldn't be difficult to trace such transactions and find out that the person may have only $20 in the address they're currently using, but has thousands in cold storage. Then a bad person could visit them with a $5 crowbar and coax the private key out of them, cold storage or not, encrypted $2,000 computer or not. Eventually they'd give up the password and/or private key. Privacy is needed in addition to security.

Hi all! Despite the huge profit we earn, we are closing our activity. Let me explain why.
I'm bitcoin enthusiast since 2011. When we started this service I was convinced that any Bitcoin user has a natural right to privacy. I was totally wrong. Now I grasped that Bitcoin is transparent non-anonymous system by design. Blockchain is a great open book. I believe that Bitcoin will have a great future without dark market transactions. You may use Dash or Zerocoin if you want to buy some weed. Not Bitcoin.
I hope our decision will help to make Bitcoin ecosystem more clean and transparent. I hope our competitors will hear our message and will close their services too. Very soon this kind of activity will be considered as illegal in most of countries.
Cheers, Bitmixer.IO
I have read your post with great interest, and I can see the heavy moral questions that arise from your internal debate. However, is it true that a catalyser to your decision, was in fact a claim made by US law enforcement? I think Bitcoin gives us the power to decide whether you want to be public about your stake in it or not, and this is quite a primal right every individual should have. For example, what if a guy from the pizza shop or some taxi driver i just payed with my bitcoin wallet, would know that I hold 10,000 BTC? How many dangerous situations that would create? Would I ever be able to use my crypto wallet safely (not from hackers, but from street criminals) again? Let's play retard advocate. Let's say I just purchased a thousand dollars worth of bitcoins for the very first time, the transaction conducted via Coinbase. Coinbase sent me a thousand dollars worth of bitcoins from a wallet address depicting a current balance of millions of dollars worth or bitcoins. A nefarious actor is made aware of a bitcoin payment I made to a taxi driver, pizza dude, etc. The street criminal does one of the following: Assumes I own the millions of dollars of bitcoins so tries to rob me; is astute enough to know that those millions aren't mine but belongs to Coinbase so I'm left alone; opts to rob some little old lady's purse because it's easier, safely assuming that the bills obtained from within didn't have their serial numbers registered and kept in her underwear drawer hidden in the left cup of a vintage brasier she worn to a prom forty years ago with her brother Hugo.

After the deep investigation I confirm that MONERO is the best privacy currency. So I strongly recommend MONERO for all people who need extra privacy.

Translated: My pastor told me that killing people for hire is wrong, so I'm ending that practice. That said, after deep investigation I'm recommending somebody else more than enough qualified to kill on your behalf if needing extra privacy. To be fair, my pastor told me that fucking ducks in public is wrong, hence ending the practice. I now fuck ducks in private, filming the duck fuckings, then uploading the vids online where I'm paid X amount per 1,000 views thanks to pervs who enjoy my vids.

Monero is bullshit. Dash is also bullshit. They are effectively scamcoins in a sense that they boast about having privacy while in reality they have weak privacy. They should not be advertised as good for privacy because their privacy is directly derived from the assumption that they are massively adopted and the most dominant crypto out there. Here's a reality check. Are they massively adopted and most dominant cryptos? No they are not. Hence, their privacy, which depends on their adoption, is badly lacking. They are not anonymous. So please, stop spreading misinformation.

Good point, indeed Monero has many technological advantages over other vague Altcoins, not only in Privacy (especially since it was proven that the Monero private tx ids could be easily reversed engineered: https://eprint.iacr.org/2017/338.pdf), but also since it was one of the first coins to introduce innovations such as dynamic block size, which improves the perspective for long term scaling, which I reckon, is the most important part about cryptocurrency. Since, as Andreas M. Antonopoulos said (here's a nice video of him making a point https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMEOKDVXlUo&t=1s), we are now only approaching the verge of the dawn of the era of blockchain and cryptocurrency. However, I would like to note, that by default, any crypto to crypto exchange transaction using an exchange service (which has a properly configured combination of hot and cold wallets) will equally conceal the public key (wallet ID) from which the funds were sent.

I appreciate that, despite the fact that they closed their service, bitmixer (account owner or team) did a research and posted their opinion about best currency for high privacy. But still bitcoin is used for almost everything and monero can't take it's place even on dark.. Also am I wrong or did Monero had signature campaign last year? Please anyone answer me. As far as I know, Monero has never had a signature campaign. Many in the Monero community dislike marketing.

As far as I know, Monero has never had a signature campaign. Many in the Monero community dislike marketing. Monero is neither a token nor was it premined. It's totally a POW coin so who and why would they host a signature campaign? And for anonymity, depends mostly on the way user uses the coin.

Regarding Monero in particular, there can be some sense behind BITMIXER.IO's words. In fact, he didn't say that this coin is the best possible currency out there in terms of privacy. I agree that Monero might become more "private" once (if) it gets wider adoption, but this doesn't in the least mean that there are currencies with (fundamentally) better privacy. Anyway, the burden is on you to name any such currency if you claim that Monero sucks at providing genuine anonymity to its users

@Hyena have you ever even taken the time to look at the typical Monero transaction in a Monero block explorer? Take a look to see what information you can uncover about senders. Nada. True IPs are not completely hidden yet (logs) but that is coming with I2P integration in Kovri; meantime users can use a VPN or Tor. For users who want anonymity there is no better option than Monero ATM. The OP was right in recommending Monero.
