I only look at altcoins as a means of earning money.
But do they have real real potential to be widely accepted and used in the future? I don't think so.

They exist and will just for trading/mining profits.

But actually this doesn't apply to all of them since some coins introduce new stuff as siacoin and lbry (you can read more about them).
They aren't just some other coins but they introduce a new decentralized system for doing the old things in a different way. That's what attracts me (not talking about price and earnings at this point ).

The real problem for businesses is bitcoin price volatility. They work with USD and are happy with it.
They just look at it that it's too much tention for them to accept a form of payment that doesn't go with the rest of the business.

I mean even if they accept crypto, they still need to buy goods with USD. What if btc price goes down at time of buying ? Then that's a loss.

That's why they just ignore the whole crypto thing.

that is a long list and each of these coins are very different from the others, and each of them have a lot of problems associated with them. i can't just summarize them all for you. you have to go research them one by one.

if trading and money is all you care about then answering is much simpler. all these altcoins are viable source of bitcoin. because all of them get pump and dumped (specially the pump-specific coins like ethereum) and they can give you a big profit on your bitcoins that you hodl!
you just have to find the right time to invest in each of these.

Most of the altcoins are just copy paste of bitcoin and there are still more altcoins which are just copy paste of other altcoins since there's no restriction on creating a new coin every other person has their own coin. No wonder there will be a time when even you and I will develop our own coin like excubercoin, adbitcocoin etc and will be coming up with an ICO. Me too I don't see altcoin like what I've seen in the bitcoins before. They do not have that kind of potential that bitcoins have. But there is some altcoins that have value like ethereum which is having a good price in the market but not as good as what bitcoin can give to us. Yes all altcoins are depended on Bitcoin. We have to change our bitcoins to fiat. First, we have to convert it into Bitcoin and sell our coins this is the process. I think Altcoins or alternative coins were made to address some features that they believe the bitcoins are lacking. Some altcoins possess LSC like ethereum, cosmos, aeternity, tezos, etc. They offer low inflation rate, privacy, scalability and so on. They have unique special features. BUT overall, they are still far from what bitcoins have already accomplished. Altcoins are also a good investment if you want to have a coin investment portfolio but Bitcoin is still the best and safest coin investment for me.

I see them as money bags, honestly and no real life usage to me. There are few altcoins available in the market which has some potential and value but most of them are useless. If you go to coinmarketcap website, you will see that total crypto currency market is valued at $169 billion and bitcoin is valued at $99 billion alone. So around 59% of the total crypto market belongs to bitcoin alone. Currently there are 1194 coins are listed in that website but the actual number of altcoins are quite higher than this. These altcoins are actually eating in to the share of bitcoin.  Can you imagine if the entire volume of $169 billion belonged to bitcoin, what can be its price? Useless altcoins are actually dividing the investments which should have been flown in to bitcoin.

I think some of the altcoins such as Monero, Litecoin, Ethereun have a lot of potential to grow.
Firstly the speed of transactions of Litecoins is four times faster than bitcoins which makes it more preferable.

Well I think there are other altcoin worth noting at and there are others that we can say shitcoins. They are just created just to have something to invest in. There are no actual products and cant be used in real world scenario.

Well, i love bitcoins. I love the history behind it. The story, the purpose. I honestly think it is the most amazing crypto currency to have ever existed. While on other crypto currencies, i also like a lot. But not as much as bitcoins. Yes most of these coins are only made out of greed and some these are even pointless efforts to scam people. But, still, i cannot say that i hate alternate crypto currencies. Because they actually do help bitcoin. And let's be honest here, most of us here in this forum have gotten a lot of profit from these alternative coins. So i think it's safe to say that i love altcoins but i love bitcoins the most.

I am in the process of doing research on the altcoins but to be honest I haven't studied more than 2 alt-coins yet. Here is what I think about those two coins,

The first one XRP which is also called as Banker's Bitcoin and it is based on Ripple net protocol. This coin has a potential in the long run in terms of acceptability but since there is a huge supply of it, I am not expecting it to grow like Bitcoin in terms of price. Even banks can use Ripple protocol without using XRP so there might be slow and steady growth for it as Banks hate volatility.

The second one is ETH which supports smart contracts and I am expecting a growth in A.I and I.O.T sector where huge automation is going to take place and as a financial element, I think ETH has a scope to capture the position in that sector. Anything like automated Airbnb, Uber cab can use ETH to deal with finance.

Well I think there are other altcoin worth noting at and there are others that we can say shitcoins. They are just created just to have something to invest in. There are no actual products and cant be used in real world scenario.

Yes we all know that according to the current statistics bitcoins are the best among all other available options because their market price is highest at present.

But as far as investment and trading is concerned other valuable coins such as ethereum could also be used to earn desirable profits as it is more widely used than the legacy currency in some countries of the world. This is actually important for keeping a balance in the world of cryptocurrency.

I see a lot of potential coins aside from Bitcoin. Though Bitcoin for me is still the King. There are other coins that has a better purpose and can contribute to our fast growing economy. Just like what you have mention. Ethereum and Litecoin is one. I see also a lot of potential of NEO and Waves. 2018 will be a great year to crypto world. We are lucky that we knew it at earlier time.
