Seems like they will be sold at double the cost of the RX 580's tho, so power consumption better be lower!

I will believe it when I see it, but also remember Vega is going to use double the watts of Nvidia, so not really a big deal

I think it will use too much power.

not double the watts of a 1080TI 250 tdp vs 300 not that far apart

Who cares if it will use too much power, in the end performance and cost are the only things that matter. For example, the $399 version, if the $399 uses 2x more power than the rx 580 and makes 2x more money then is a better card cause it will take a single pci-e slot + is much easier to maintain a single card than 2 cards.

really ridiculous article anyways: nothing is clear or confirmed. "....70 MH/s...." "Vega Frontier mining performance (which has a hash rate of ~30 MH/s)." which is it.

Holy cow that would be insanely interesting if true! Sadly the "craze" is still very much on so it will pretty much be a zero sum game for anyone who buys these outside of like day one. I confess I would love to get my hands on some but with the difficulty increase that the thousands of these coming online will bring.. it may be pointless. I am not sure why people are all "think of the poor gamers!" - seriously why does AMD care? They sell out of cards they make money. Only a business that is bad at doing business would NOT want to sell out of their entire stock the moment it becomes available.

so.. is it gonna do 1400 sols/s per card as well?.. I doubt it. The Ethereum hashing increase is from the new memory interface utilizing the HBM2 memory type. This is what will radically speed up the ETH mining. However the core is most likely nearly the same or hopefully close to the nVidia 1080 ti, so if this card got around 700 SOLs that would be quite a bargin as the card is about half the cost of the 1080 TI. Faster ETH Same Equihash A little less power 30-50% less price (depending) All those stack up for a hell of a deal!

This would instantly make mining way profitable again at $400 a card.
70 is more than double. 100 would be over triple. We will hear more news very soon and may be buying these things like nes-minis
Not necessarily. Think about it. If 100,000 of these things come online within the next month or so the Ethereum network hashrate will likely triple or even more than that as well. This means the mining difficulty with skyrocket and while you may then be mining at 2-3x the speed of what you were with your RX 570s, those will only be pulling in 1/3 or even less than they were before! You will pretty much need to get your hands on these right away if you ever want a return on your investment.

My problem is flexibility, AMD just dosent have enough algos it performs as well or better than Nvidia in, so the potential for ROI is WAY greater in this speculative market we are in. Look at coins like Netko and SIGT, everyone (me included), ROI'd ANY amount of 1080ti's in last 3 months just mining those coins, while AMD has Dagger coins , which they chase the Epoch of , and what XMR? :/ Ill believe Vega at 70mh/s when i see it, plains and simple and im sure it will be too late by then ;p

Well, this could be what makes Polaris cards essentially obsolete. With these kinds of cards entering the Ethereum mining atmosphere and the big freeze coming, Polaris could have a quicker end than we previously expected. Wonder how these guys hash on XMR and other algorithms, though. These are rumors, though, so don't take them too seriously. We don't know how these cards actually do in mining tasks.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is a Hype Rumor started by AMD just to generate attention and sales.
It wouldn't be the first time AMD has overstated performance claims...

I fully agree ETH is more memory speed oriented with HBM2 which is in my opinion even better than next gddr6 for mining, we can expect about 70MH, while ZEC is more core speed oriented and vega 64 will be same as 1080ti or lower, we can expect about 680-720sols on 64. Edit: Dont get it why was people thinking that vega 64 will mine about 35MH same as FE (which doesnt have drivers, isnt optimized in miners, and overclock) vega 64 have about 120% increase on memory speed over rx 570, but again 64 is using 300wats, and costs about 500$, at the end it is the same thing

70 mH would be super impressive. I hope Vega will destroy 1080Ti like Ryzen is destroying top Intel CPUs right now!
