At the time you posted, rortan75, the volatility was nothing compared to what it is now. For now the volatility is very high because of the hysteria around the price. Price can range of 100$ in a single hour.

Why Is Bitcoin's Value So Volatile? I am confused to buy bitcoin now when it's value is too high.

Bitcoin is of high value because it is popular, so you are not questioning its effect here, so I'm just talking about the reason high bitcoin is worth. For a long time to exist, bitcoins are well known and thrive, while the amount of bitcoin coins remains the same, so the value of bitcoin must increase as market demand grows. .

If you are confused right now when you will be not confused anymore? The price keeps on rising and some miss the train when it hardly dumps at $1900 before this August but now again it will going to double the previous high .Bitcoins volatility is before of the new bitcoin adopters after this august and i think its the nature of bitcoins and we can't stop it hoard on the train.

Bitcoin's value is volatile because there are not enough users/money invested worldwide.

Even a multimillionaire can have an effect on the price because if he buys lots of Bitcoins the price will go up.

Also if someone with lots of Bitcoins from 2009 or 2010 comes along then he dumps his coins there can be a global price drop.

But when there is more money invested (over $1,000,000,000,000) then no one will be able to affect the price a lot. Not even the richest people in the world. This is when the volatility will stop.
Indeed, this is the actual reason behind the volatile nature of Bitcoins. To become stable, it still needs much more support around the globe. The pace at which Bitcoins are becoming popular, it would not be an exaggeration to predict that within a decade Bitcoins will become the most stable digital currency worldwide.

This isn't even the whole of it. The lack of liquidity due to its small total valuation (yes, this is small) makes the uneducated investors respond with more effect. Dips become dumps; natural growth gets misinterpreted and then exaggerated.  A perfect example of this is what happened with BCC as it became available after the fork. People couldn't arb because everything was janked up, so the price started varying wildly per exchange (250 on hitbtc, 700 on Bittrex).

For whales it's hard to move your position around without making the market react.

And for those that say a billion is too high to manipulate, remember, rich people can work together Wink
Price for everything in the world is volatile, even the goods and food stocks you from the market.
Their price is likely to increase, and sometimes you see their price going below the rate you had expected. All these things are due to exchange (correct me if I am wrong).
Price volatility is the one among the major factor that is found over majority of the digital currency. In specific bitcoin volatility is the attraction and more users are making a good profit through it. Now too the volatility is found high, this is because of the variations in the circulation happening based on the supply to demand.

I have read this topic somewhere. Bitcoin is on the rise and the fact that you are considering buying Bitcoin at the present time is a mistake when its price is unstable. So wait for some more time. Volatile? I think it is difficult for Bitcoin to evaporate at the moment, it is rapidly growing, it deserves to be so after the August 1 event, it has been sold out a lot, but now buy in, you will lose

Why do you think that this price is not good to buy 2 days back when the price was $2800+ that time also so many users were telling this but see today it is more then $1200+ high ($4000+ price) but still if you see any low dump then you can buy it because it will go above $5000+ within this month.

Lately I've been wondering much the same thing.
Its been way more volatile as of late, with the good news
that the highs have been much higher.  Not unhappy
about that.  Said it before,  there's money flowing into
the market from somewhere.  More traders=higher price
IF buy orders continue to outpace sell orders.  That's a
big 'if'.

for those who can afford to buy just keep buying and hold your coins as we all knew that bitcoin still got a lots of possibilities support are there
and newbies are still adopting this investment so take a look closer and start your investment just be patience and hold till next year to see
the benefits.

you have to accept the reality of what is happening now to bitcoin market. Volatility is an indication that many people are buy into bitcoin. You should also understand that bitcoin may get to $50000 before it price will stable as many investors see it as the best investment for now.  You should buy now in other not to be among those who will regret in years to come.

The volatility of bitcoin has actually been going down lately and perhaps that's most to the bullish market sentiment that keeps pushing prices up through time. Volatility could be back in if there was another major price drop though.

You are right, This volatility depend of people who enroll bitcoin community. Nowadays, bitcoin price increase a lot. I don't remember that bitcoin increase highly like that in the past. I mean around 1000$ or more in 2 weeks after the fork. Really it's unbelivable.

So this augmentation of price is  depend of people who buy bitcoin these days. It's really amazing, and maybe in the future bitcoin will increase more and achieve the 50000$ like you said.

well! It is not 100% sure but I think it is the transaction and the speculation that can make the bitcoin more volatile .Bitcoin is still mot acceptable in a lot of the countries the supply and the price of the bitcoin depends on the speculation but the price of the bitcoin fluctuates as it is adopted by a lot of people and the adoption can increase the price of the bitcoin and soon it will be stable.

Bitcoin is very volatile since its value depends on the movement of the market which is the supply and demand. If the demand from the people is high then the price of bitcoin will go up easily since there are many buyers but if there are more sellers than buyers then it has the tendency to climb down. Bitcoin has a limited supply of 21 million coins and thus as more people are purchasing bitcoin its value will go up. If you do not buy bitcoin right now you will be left behind when its value is twice the value today. If you do not decide today when will you decide, if you continue doubting you will be surprised that bitcoins value will be 10k dollars in the future.

A few reasons added to this -

One reason that is frequently disregarded is, Britain's exit from the European Union named Brexit. This occasion prompted political and sparing precariousness in the Eurozone, and the Euro and in addition the Great British Pound.

Chinese economy log jam, and connected issues with the Chinese Yuan (CNY).

The Halving Effect. In July of 2016, a procedure called "splitting" of Bitcoins occurred. That is the quantity of new Bitcoins entering the framework through mining decreased from 25 Bitcoins to 12.5 Bitcoins.

U.S Elections and Donald Trump accordingly winning the U.S Election.

The Indian Government demonetized Rs.500 and Rs.1000 notes. This prompted a cost increment on Indian trades. Bitcoin was exchanging at 20% premium in India amid November and December.

Supply and demand are factors that makes bitcoin value volatility. A lot of investors and traders getting involve with bitcoin nowadays and the demand is high but have limited supply that cause it's value fluctation anytime.

Bitcoin is quite relatively small market comparing to fiat market and I guess one of the main reason why the price is volatile because it is on the open market, anyone call basically trade it doesn't matter who you are. While the market capital is growing the volatility is decreasing, well that's what they said. We'll see.

It is decentralized, investors can easily affected by speculations and it is scarce so any change in the demand immediately affects bitcoin's price.

It is supply is fixed that is probably only reason that its too volatile. Noone can stop its moves buy pushing supply button. Bitcoin's difference is this.
