Litecoin is already well adopted and often used instead of bitcoin for the transfer of money due to its speed, it is also fairly stable relative to some cryptos. Litecoin has technologies such as Lightning that Bitcoin cash does and will not have. IMO Bitcoin cash has got some catching up to do if it wants to challenge litecoin.

why do you think bitcoin cash will get more support than litecoin?

bitcoin cash is created and backed by very shady people and most people already know it and are thinking twice before going near it. right now everyone is treating it as an air drop and a volatile speculation tool on exchanges to make more money from.

on top of it you are comparing the litecoin development team who have been around for as long as bitcoin and are perfectly trusted with a bunch of shady people behind BCC who have very shady goals!

and besides what does 8 MB really offer? nothing. litecoin still has 4 times faster transaction than the 8 MB thing!

You make some valid points, but I wouldn't call BCH team shady. If anything, there is an actual creator and an actual team behind it. Bitcoin was created by an unknown guy using an alias and still people put all they have into it. Same goes for Litecoin who also has an actual creator and an actual team behind it.

But to be fair, you both make good points. I recognize that BCH indeed have some catching up and lots to prove itself, but it seems to be taken fairly well with the community so far considering the price is nearly 400$ again

People invested in Litecoin even when everyone believed the coin was dead and worth less than $5. Litecoin still has much lower fees and will be a testnet for future updates

BCH has a block size of 8 MB but currently BCH transactions are still in a long time. Due to the lack of interest of miners to mine BCH.
I think LTC is better than BCH in transaction speed.

Litecoin is still a fast and stable way to transfer funds.
It's nothing revolutionary, but it just works.

But yes, now that BTC is hardforked into BTC and BTH, it's totally possible that LTC is not needed anymore that much.
Right now BTC is in the spotlight, so the price fluctuates more (that's not sth you want to have when you actually want to calculate with USD or EUR).

bitcoin cash is created and backed by very shady people and most people already know it and are thinking twice before going near it. right now everyone is treating it as an air drop and a volatile speculation tool on exchanges to make more money from.

Not really. There are solid programmers behind BCH and a good community.
I know I won't change your mind on this subject, but if anyone want's to read up the story why we have 2 Bitcoins now, have a look:
https://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinMarkets/comments/6rxw7k/informative_btc_vs_bch_articles/dl8v4lp/
Also, BCH will get a faster when the difficulty get's easier, but it will be another few weeks.

tl;dr:
Litecoin is still a good way to transfer funds.

Red-Apple and Kanapka have pretty much summed it up.
Bitcoin cash has a long way to go to convince people of its advantage's over Litecoin.
I too have bought Litecoin and I'm holding with confidence.

Just like Bitcoin, Litecoin also was declared dead many times over the years, still both alive and well, making all time highs.

You should question why Bitcoin Cash was created and does it really have a bright future? Will people go for a centralized version of bitcoin?

Litecoin already does everything Bitcoin Cash but better, and it has malleability protection, because it has segwit. But the loons that think segwit is a mistake and will make Bitcoin crash may find value in Bitcoin Cash.

Right now... Litecoin is not looking good in my opinion. Bitcoin has segwit, that was the main reason Litecoin pumped, because Bitcoin didn't had segwit yet.

It really isn't. See the following:

https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/litecoin-transactions.html

It's only managing about 19,000 transactions in a 24 hour period. Coins like Ethereum have surpassed bitcoin with over 312,000 transactions, and even ethereum classic managed about 36,000 transactions.

I think LITECOIN has always been better than bitcoin and is also better than Bitcoin cash . Litecoin has faster transaction processing speed and transaction fees is very low as well. Litecoin is a very popular altcoin and it has a large market capital. i think litecoin will show development in coming years.

You are having it bull's eye, bro. When it comes to transaction speed as well as transaction fees, Litecoin surpasses bitcoin. It is just bitcoin has really gained much popularity and trust being the original and king of all cryptos.

I aggree that BCC seems a serious contender for 2nd place as (smaller than bitcoin) payment option. LTC will have to fight it out. Im siding with LTC. But diversification cant be bad in these cases. Hold both untill a victor claims his spot as the rightfull 2nd

Why do people use dogecoin? because it is adopted. Litecoin may surprise the community with new development ideas, everybody already knows that after litecoin, bitcoin will implement segwit.

Honestly, reading some of what Charlie Lee is saying just make it seem like there is a conflict between the founder and the supporters of the coin.

I'm not speaking for every Litecoin holder right now, but I would expect that most of the supporters want the coin to grow and to become more adopted and widely used. But it seems like the founder is pleased with the direction of Litecoin and that it will forever be in Bitcoins shadow. Not sure what you guys think? I'm not saying its bad with a coin that is aging well and that doesn't have any large dips like most altcoints. But what if the community grows tired of the lack of progress and if a majority of the supporters would decide to jump ship?

Litecoin is an encoding currency, based on the Peer to Peer platform, which is also based on Bitcoin's own performance, but with its own signature, litecoin uses a cryptographic platform instead of a SHA256 like Bitcoin. At this point it helps the exploit of virtual currency at the same time can exploit Bitcoin and Litecoin, without being ...

Why is there necessary comparison between Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin? First, Bitcoin Cash is poised presumably to be the replacement of Bitcoin. It failed. It will continue to fail. And right now, it is Litecoin that is being tried to dethrone with Bitcoin Cash. Bitcoin Cash needs to be its own brand and use without resorting to compare others. LTC has been here for a long while and has built a reputation already. BCH has yet to achieve that.

Stick a fork in litecoin. BCH is going to eat its lunch. It might maintain its current value or bounce between $40 and $50 for a while, but its going to slowly bleed going forward. I expect no more big upward price movements in LTC. Charlie's positioning of LTC relative to BTC doesn't help. He needed something more aggressive than burgers and fries, litecoin is boring or the usual "silver and gold". The BCH people want the litecoin investors and they are FUDing LTC bad in China.

People on forums won't be able to tell you the future of a crypto and that includes litecoin. People thought it was dead for years and it's alive and well. People will continue to tell you its dead.

Read about its technology, watch exchange volumes over time, and take note of what countries are gaining or losing in volume and make your own determination.

My opinion is that if the developer base is stable and moving the coin around is cheap and fast, until another coin beats it at this game without top-down power struggles its not going to go anywhere.

The people still investing into litecoin because they are looking for short profit from fluctuating of litecoin
they are ignore about fundamental aspects that you are talking about now,
the other reason they are speculating into litecoin it is just activity makes money, if there are something wrong with litecoin
or any other related with litecoin they will do cut lost and keeps investing in other altcoins.

Litecoin is still a pretty good coin after Bitcion and Ethereum. People say its dead and has no future but it shows its potential by being in the top 10 ranks on coinmarketcap.
It has been idle from many days and is going through short fluctuations but has not been fluctuating highly and i guess thats the reason people think that its dead. If it would have been dead then why would it be on the top 10 coins. There are people who still believe in it and buy it. It is still a potential coin and may rise up in future

Litecoin still being strong these days and being adopted by traders. Yes some said its already dead but I must say its not dead because until now it is still active in the market. Moreover, Im hodling this coin until now and I believe I can earn profit in the long run.

Hy I want to ask something, does Litecoin also ever feel SegWit?
And does SegWit impact on each altcoin the same as SegWit in Bitcoin that will create a better new altcoin (in terms of transactions and fees)

I think LTC will soon rise up after they fall asleep at that time, because I believe LTC still has good quality in their trading, maybe little by little they will see to start the movement there, so let's see how they show good quality in Trading . .

I heard that Litecoin price rose to a record $64 following a surge in trading volume on South Korean and Chinese exchanges yesterday. Of course, another factor behind is SegWit. So many analysts are looking for futher growth.

Well bitcoin just hit $4600 on bittrex so Litecoin will follow upwards a bit.
I actually think BCH will be healthy for a time then fall off a bit especially
As and when bitcoin gains more activity and growth and all the time litecoin following.

Interesting that the OP started a thread titled Litecoin to promote Bitcoin Cash. Even after all these years altcoins still are compared to the original successful altcoin.

Also interesting that Bitcoin Cash adopted a blocksize to give it similar transactional capacity to Litecoin. Even bitcoin in adopting segwit has become more like Litecoin. It's great that LTC is taking a leadership role and showing the direction to go. Unfortunately these are half measures in an attempt to be more like Litecoin.

Meanwhile Bitcoin Cash price dropping as people comprehend the magnitude of Emergency Difficulty Adjustment bug. You would think a simple blocksize increase wouldn't have been difficult to pull off.

https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/miners-are-milking-bcashs-difficulty-adjustments-and-why-problem1/

Unfortunately, the EDA bug is currently unfixable because it requires miners to adopt a new version of software during a hardfork. Why would they adopt the new version when it's not to their advantage? The only way to solve the problem is a large increase or decrease in price. Likely, a large decrease will happen. Why would it increase when the developers of Bitcoin Cash have proven a level of incompetency by programming this bug in the first place?

Things may settle down once the price drops extremely low for a prolonged period of time. Until then hugh swings in hashrate will continue.

With LTC it is the same as with other well known cryptocurrencies. Just put it into your portfolio and hold it on longterm. At beginning of this year LTC was at 3$. Look, where it is now.

Litecoin is still become strong until today and most reason's why other people still invest just to earn profit. And I know litecoin is profitable and it has a good future. So Im still holding this coin for a long term.

We soon have Bitcoin with SegWit and Bitcoin Cash just debuted this week with 8 MB block size.

Whats the future and the use of Litecoin at current? I'm expecting Bitcoin Cash to get support and functionality within the coming months that Litecoin never managed in its ~8 years of life.

Why are people still investing into Litecoin?

Bitcoin with segwit is the biggest development right now and look at the price, over $4600 which bitcoin has reached new ATH https://news.bitcoin.com/markets-update-bitcoin-skyrockets-to-4650-setting-new-all-time-high/?utm_source=OneSignal%20Push&utm_medium=notification&utm_campaign=Push%20Notifications, even though not all of us could enjoy segwit due to wallet devs still doesn't update new wallet that support segwit. On the other hand bitcoin cash seems declined in the last 24 hours, around $576 and will continue to decrease if many people want to move their funds into bitcoin. But litecoin sould survive sofar and gain more value righ now compare to few days before. Litecoin has advantages and cheaper price which is always used as trading object, that's why it still stand up until today.

Somehow I don't see BitcoinCash is better than litecoin, litecoin got a better popularity and more implementation, and there are a lot of people invest in it, BitcoinCash just start the step I think it is too soon to say it is better than litecoin, litecoin transactions is really fast and a lot of people were dumping BitcoinCash as soon as they got it, it proves that people not really like BitcoinCash

I dont think BCH will take over litecoin, but BCH isn't going anywhere for along time.
well anything could happen. bch is a good coin for short term investment. rather than invest in litecoin o think better to watch eth coin that well used and definetly will grow in my opinion

Because all people believe that later litecoin will be able to continue to grow and able to compete with other altcoin because litecoin has been able to survive every day there is the addition of new coin hence everyone believes that litecoin can be a good altcoin

Problem is transaction times will never compete with Litecoin. Jihan and his group will always swap to whatever is more profitable. They won't mine BCH for a long time to activate EDA. Then go back to it. No one will like waiting that long for a transaction time to confirm.

It was just a reaction before ltc price had finally risen dash had increased from $20 to $150 and following to that even eth had increased mysteriously from $10 to straight $400 after the people who had pumped the price they decided to cashout their profits and luckily ltc was their next target and the price increased again this increase was just a reaction but no one expected to see the price not falling to $3 after that.

As you asked why litecoin is preferred, basically its older than other coins. People in cryptocurrency community tend to use older coins as they trust em more. That is the answer I can give you.

you give the answer is very simple but very precise, the coin that has been formed long course more trusted by the public because it is guaranteed with security and of course many coins

Litecoin is actually doeng pretty well IMO, I mean price isn't everything, they are still in the top 10 of most capitalized coins on Coinmarketcap.
And it's being used frequently as well, around 20k transactions per day.

https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/litecoin-transactions.html

Compare that to some other popular coins and you'll see that Litecoin is doing pretty good in terms of usage.

usually one of the most important factors that we should consider about an altcoin is their performance over a long amount of time. not just over a month or two.

as for litecoin, the price has been very stable and at a good level for a long time (more than a year) about $4
and more important thing was that all this time the volume stayed up, the network worked properly and safely without any issues, mining were strong as ever, a large number of transactions, ...
then with SegWit price went up near $40 and stayed there with small fluctuations (10% up and down) and ever since that time everything grew, the volume, the hashrate, the number of transactions,...

this in my opinion is a healthy altcoin. with a healthy rise. it didn't go up to $300 and drop to $50 and continue down.
it went up to above $50 and had a little correction to $40 and kept the price strong and then went up higher to $60 and that is growth.

Of the data you give sir litecoin is still included in the altcoin's favorite use even if the price is not as big as etherium or bitcoin but litecoin has its own specialty.

In terms of distribution, bitcoincash has a better distribution. See the following:

https://bitinfocharts.com/

The top 10,000 bitcoincash addresses own 61% of all the coins. But the top 10,000 litecoin addresses own 87.15% of all the coins. Litecoin is concentrated in the hands of a few elites and exchanges.

Litecoin has not yet shown all his might. It has clear advantages over the remaining ten major crypto-currencies. And it is growing not only in price, but also in capitalization. I think $ 100 for a coin is far from the limit. It's my opinion.

maybe if someone like the owner of Microsoft to invest with the amount that is not small as done to etherium then litecoin can show its prowess compared with other cryptocurry

the possibility of ltecoin will be the coin which has great potential for improvement rather than increasing prices due to ETH even though they are still below the ETH but I am sure if your investment litecoin to inv will have almost the same benefit with ETH. in the future you will see the benefits

If you are planning to invest in a coin just because a country does like this coin is a risky proposition  Tongue but i do understand that Charlie Lee could make a decision and that people would accept his decisions without any second thought as we have seen with their network upgrade and i hope there will be a time in future that the price would reach a good valuation .

Litecoin is attractive coin, and it will regain its high popularity, when small technical problems begin in a competitive systems. And don't forget that the stock issue of Litecoin is consumed slower due to the smaller number of miners.

Litecoin seems to be gaining ground on being the 4th largest marketcap behind ripple. I think that litecoin could outgrow Ripple and Bitcoin cash at the end of the year with a 10 Billion dollar marketcap.

I totally agree.
I was playing on Litecoin's all summer, but as by the law the price raised after I sold my coins by 52$ price  Angry Honestly, I didn't hear any big news about Litecoin for a long time. That was a big surprise to see this morning 92$ price really. But now I see that Litecoin depends from Bitcoin and currently they both are falling.

i don't understand why the frowny face is for. litecoin price had gone up from $4 to $50 and if you caught it anywhere on this way up you would have been in a huge profit and it would never matter what price it went to next.

also even if you someday sold some altcoin too soon and saw the rise continue then you can invest back! there is nothing stopping you from coming back in. you just get a smaller profit lets say you catch it at $65 and sell again at $90 that is still a big enough profit.

I agree. Litecoin is pretty solid and without much problems that made it totally useless. Its around 8 years as a cryptocurreny has been a great thing for LTC. It is widely used actually. The fees are reasonable that is why it is one of the most circulated. And look at the exchanges right now, dumps are all over but not for LTC.  Wink

Litecoin is the currency in whose success I'm sure more than in anything else. I bought it for $20 and will hold till the price reaches $1k or so. I know ltc isn't really a big step forward after btc but at least people are working on it and the coin has been around and trusted for a very long time. Moreover, no big problems like hacks and forks with eth never happened with ltc, so it's quite stable. It was and always will be somewhere around btc.

i think you really need to go through a course of English language to learn the basics. or at least open up a dictionary. because nowhere in the world people call going from $4 to $90 a "drop".
maybe you failed the first grade math!

find a 7 year old and they can teach you that 90 is bigger than 4 and going from 4 to 90 means rise in a year not "fall"

It will, literally, never happen.  LTC didn't go up this year by chance.  Charlie Lee's return, SegWit, Lightning Network, atomic swaps, CNBC feature (calling it a "must own"), etc.  It will be over $100 shortly and will see $300 by 2019.

Litecoin was released in 2011 by Charlie Lee. Litecoin is a relatively stable coin than other cryptocurrencies. If it’s technically nearly identical to the btc, litecoin network has some improvements over btc. Litecoin has the fast transaction than btc.

but if the price is down until 0.005 like above you said, then i will buy more litecoin and hold as long as i can because i really like this coin. i don't know why but in the early i am joining into bitcoin industry, i am falling in love with litecoin and i've got some good feeling with this coin. $100 is coming for litecoin and i hope we don't have to wait for more.

It seems to me these things are going to have a significant impact on ltc's use and therefore may increase its value.

There are some rumors about Litecoin have big update in September. From June, the price of Litecoin has increase after long time stand still low price around @0.012x - @0.010x BTC. Today, I also know detail about that update, thanks for information!

The thing with litecoin is there is nothing at this time to really makes it special other than being the second coin. The value seems to hold overtime without that much fluctuation and even though I trust the value of bitcoin much more, I suppose I would feel too crazy leaving a balance in Litecoin overnight. Some of the things that made it popular in the past are just not there anymore.

There's also the fact it's tested, stable, and fast in comparison to btc.

on my own, i have never invested in Litecoin. To me, this coin is so unfamiliar with me to invest. But Litecoin is one of the most frequent altcoins i buy, i like to buy litecoin with bitcoin on an exchanger for a site depot and developing it.

what are the prospects for litecoin?

Smart contracts and atomic swaps and lightning network are all coming.

It seems to me these things are going to have a significant impact on ltc's use and therefore may increase its value.
There are some rumors about Litecoin have big update in September. From June, the price of Litecoin has increase after long time stand still low price around @0.012x - @0.010x BTC. Today, I also know detail about that update, thanks for information!

forget rumors. the reality is what matters most.
we already have SegWit on both bitcoin and litecoin.
they have been working on Lightning Network too. and i heard yesterday that it was tested and was successful. it is getting ready to release soon. with it the price will shoot up fast.
as for smart contracts i believe it is RSK that will work on both bitcion and litecoin. and it has been a very promising project so far too.

and whenever a rise like that happens the FOMO follows and makes things move even faster.

p.s. for litecoin it is also best to look at its USD price too. because most of the time that is keeping it up and rising. (eg. from $50 to $70)

I still think ltc ought to be around 25% of btc price.  I don't know that it will ever get there, but atomic swaps and the lightning network are likely to push it much higher than it is today.

The difficulty is high enough that it's not something you could just mine for fun and produce that number of real quick, it's got to the point where there is no way that it's return is going to beat your cost. The value doesn't gain enough to really make it a good investment. It's been around long enough and the price is high enough that it doesn't really make it a good trading device for arbitration. Doge has been the king of that for a long time.

Novelty is gone. So really, it's kind of like that aging athlete that is still playing, had some historic events early in its career and has gotten to the point where those historic events aren't strong enough to carry it through the fact that it just can't compete.

Litecoin was recently added as a selection for an IRA.  That should be a big positive for the coin.  I am bullish on this coin overall.

Even on falling market litecoin fell not so much. That's why I hope that after such a long period of consolidation, the coin will grow several times in a short time.

Litecoin is in existence right from 2011 and also considered to be third major coin after BTC and ETH. Lietcoin is also hard forked out of Bitcoin so implementing the feature on Litecoin before Bitcoin can be way practical. Also, Litecoin coin is much faster in approving transactions i.e. its faster in comparison to Bitcoin which takes way longer time.

Why not DogeCoin?

Likely because these types of funds have professional management. They understand for example that Dogecoin only continues to exist because the litecoin network supports it through merged mining. Additionally, the developers walked away from dogecoin years ago. It's likely they would only want to include funds that have good liquidity and continual solid market support.

There are still many who consider litecoin as one form of coin that is still easy to use investment with the advantage is also larger and in the work pretty quickly.

ltc is the easiest to use if I want to move money into something else -- can be bought on coinbase and then immediately moved over and traded for something else.  btc transactions take so long to confirm and cost so much that it's a real pain to use.

Litecoin has everything Bitcoin has with less political mess and better management and execution.
With that said, Litecoin also has good network hashrate support.
Innovation is important, but there are other factors likes management, operation execution and etc. that could make a project different and become successful.
At least Litecoin is run by a legit group of professionals, with PRACTICAL and realistic goals in mind.

That's one of the things that keeps me sticking with it.  Lee is a professional who knows what he's doing.

I can't keep up with all the politics in the btc world right now.
