I have come to realize in recent time that holding bitcoin in ones wallet is more profitable and a little bit risk free as compared to trading altcoin or what do you think ?

It it upto your experience because some are good in trading altcoin and earning nicely and some are very bad in trading. but both are profitable if you are able to control your emotions. Holding bitcoin is always a good investment but in the mean time you can trade in altcoin with that bitcoin and earn some more bitcoins in your investment. but their is always risk of losing also so you should be ready for anything

In my own opinion both trading altcion and holding bitcion are profitable although trading involves a lot of experience and some times not really meant for everybody despite its profitability potential. I believe holding bitcoin is more risk free to those who are not good in trading altcion or crypto currency in general.

What you told is correct that holding bitcoin is the very good option as you can see that bitcoin is reaching all highs and price is moving high but we cannot say it is risk free because what if the price drops in long time like sudden their is some bad news and views , then the price will drop so it is risky in both option trading or holding.

If you have bought bitcoin when it still was nothing or below than $0.01 and you are still holding it until now, you already take really huge profit. This is more profitable from doing any altcoin trading. But when you have bought altcoin when it still cheap and sell it now when the price already 100-1000x, you are also having huge profit.
Both of holding and trading altcoin are profitable in long term only.

Holding bitcoin in a safe place is mother of all the investments. I have been holding bitcoin since the price was standing at 450 USD. I didn't have enough money back then to buy more, otherwise I would have done that.

Also altcoin trading is not a bad idea, only thing is that you need to have patience. because you will have to monitor the market very closely to make profit from your trades. I mostly trade on btc/usd pair and I do arbitrage a lot. But sometimes, it is a good idea to trade with altcoins specially when you know about the price movement for sure.

of course holding Bitcoin is more profitable other than trading an altcoin 'for now',
Bitcoin price slowly keep increasing day by day and an altcoin price slowly decreasing.
Bitcoin price not yet reach its limit so it would be better to keep your Bitcoin for a few weeks,
and after Bitcoin show us a 'sign',the party will begin.
that is the right time for us to use it as an opportunity to grab some altcoins into our bags,
because that is also 'sign' for an altcoin.

just simple logic
Bitcoin Pump = Altcoin Dump
Bitcoin Dump = Altcoin Pump,
but sometimes we can see Bitcoin Pump = Altcoin Pump

Historically altcoin pumps have rarely been sustainable, with BTC outperforming most alts in the long term. So yeah, unless you're a fan of gambling or really know what you're doing, holding BTC is a wiser idea than trading altcoins. You may get lucky and stumble into the right pump for short term gains, but most alts lack the fundamentals for sustainable growth.

just simple logic
Bitcoin Pump = Altcoin Dump
Bitcoin Dump = Altcoin Pump,
but sometimes we can see Bitcoin Pump = Altcoin Pump

Altcoins mostly grow when Bitcoin is either slowly growing or stable. Most major moves by Bitcoin, both upwards and downwards, cause altcoins to bleed. At least that's the observations that I have made.

well we can say that right now but not as always specially if you ride in with an alt which continues pumping that will give you much better
earnings so far understanding the flow will be needed in this trading business, bitcoin pumps alts coin drop for a while then correction happen
and bounce back would be a nice way to profits.

Altcoin will be a profitable method rather than hold bitcoin i guess you re talking about the short term investment, you must understand the different between the bitcoin and invest in alternative crypto. Imagine the price of altcoin can be instantly doubled just in short time but bitcoin give you a guarantee for the long term investment.
altcoin is easy to get pump by a lot of the pumpers.

You can't even move any crypto without paying a fee,  and when you trade altcoins
you're constantly paying fees to trade and to move money.  You might not think it's a
lot but it adds up over time.   And just look at how much money you could have made
just by holding bitcoin.  For doing nothing except basically buying it.  That's my
take on it.  Altcoins are far too risky for me,  for a lot of reasons.   If you have a
gambler's mentality,  go for it though.

Just from my experience, I hold mostly bitcoins but I own a few alts and my bitcoins make me most of my profits. Some other alts are up, some are down and bitcoins are always steadily going up and up. So bitcoins are more profitable for me but I own 75-80% bitcoins and the rest alts. I also don't really trade often so miss opportunities that would be obvious if I were watching more closely. Hodling is just easy.

if we can trading with good then I think trading altcoin is profitable too beside holding bitcoin because with trading altcoin, we can increase the amount of bitcoin we have. there are many altcoin that can help us to increase but we need to find out what is the altcoin. holding bitcoin is the best thing that you can do for short, middle, and long term investment so you don't need to sell your bitcoin soon.

doing both at the same time is the most profitable. here is how I am doing it anyways:

initially I buy bitcoin any time that I have any money to invest, it doesn't matter what the price is. it can be $1 or $1 mill. I believe in the future of bitcoin and I will invest as much as I can. I am also earning through different ways and will hold all the earned amounts.
this is the holding part.

now the trading part:
I have dedicated a portion of my total bitcoins for trading. this is mostly trading altcoins but from time to time when I like bitcoin market and it is at its most predictable I engage in bitcoin trading too.
what I do is I buy altcoins that are rising (getting pumped) or have a good future like litecoin and sell them when they went up. I do all my tradings in bitcoin/altcoin markets not fiat. and in the end all the profit will be added to my bitcoin stash.

in other words I buy bitcoin then multiply what I have to earn even more profit.

Holding bitcoin is safe and profitable but if you want to get more bitcoin then you have to trade altcoin, these days is actually good to buy altcoin since its on sale again but you have to be careful what altcoin to buy because there are plenty of shitcoins out there. Pick those coins that has potential and active developer and have a lot of supporters too that is one of the factor a coin can bounce back its price after the dip.

If you are ready to take the risk and even doing it right, then there is no way you want to compare holding returns to trading returns because it does not just compare to each other. My wonderful experience was when I bought a coin with 0.002btc and I bought several because it worths about 35 satoshis or thereabout but the next two days the coin increased to over 100 satoshis and my investment grew to 0.008btc which is something I dont think holding the btc will give me. In short my BTC will be constant just the dollar value changes.

Both options are profitable, given that you know how to go about them. Holding Bitcoin definitely proves profitable in the long term, if you have an idea of where the price will go. Trading altcoins is risky and you have to choose well not to stumble upon a shitcoin.
