i think still BTC and ETH is the best choice because they take position on 1 and 2 marketcap, if u want going to invest in longterm but both of them and nothing to worried again just wait maybe for 2 years and u asset will grow.
but if u want fast profit u can buy some altcoin of course with high risk to, because they can gain/lose until 50% a week.

In my opinion, always pick the coins which are on the top 50 lists in order to avoid getting fail sooner or later because investing on coins that have poor support from the community would be riskier. I think Bitcoin, Etherium, Ripple, EOS, NEO and Stellar would have a good future that is why they are at the top of the market because many investors or traders supporting on it. There are new projects too in the market today which has a brighter future you just have to do some research on it before investing in it.

• What problem does the project attempt to solve?
• Is it a solution looking for a problem?
• Is there active development behind the project? (check Github activity)

• Are there established competitors which are much further into delivering a working product?
• Cross reference developers against previous scam projects
• Current market capitalization of the coin
