BTC doesn't fit for small payments today
The fees are too high currently and the confirmation can take hours.

I definitely agree with you brother. I would like to see that happening in real life. That will only happen if BTC gets mass-adopted by the larger portion of our population. It could be far-off for now but it could definitely happen. Also, as stated by the above post regarding the high transaction fees paid to the network, it is indeed not practical to pay your taxi using BTC accompanied by high fees. Hopefully, this problem will also be solved in the coming months.

I drive a taxi in Brooklyn NY and have a sign in the back saying I accept Bitcoin. Well, yesterday finally someone wanted to pay me bitcoins, we agreed on a price of .004 bitcoins but, guess what, it was going to cost him almost $6 in fees to send me $16. We had wallet settings on low fees and fees made doing the transaction unreasonable. He was using Jaxx wallet on Android phone. I was disappointed. This is a bad sign, Bitcoin is broken. He ended up paying me cash

This is a big possibility soon. I just hope that there would be a sizable number of people who are willing to sue their Bitcoin just for a taxi drive. You see, most of the Bitcoin holders are speculative people as they know that Bitcoin is really rising so they are not spending it...this is the reason why many called Bitcoin not as currency but as an asset (akin to gold...you don't pay taxi with gold, right).

It would be nice though but not with the current transaction fee. However, I still see some bitcoin services like this coming up soon. After all, speedy transaction was one of the reasons behind bitcoin innovation.

I'd like it, but like the others have mentioned it's not worth it unless you're paying a lot. A typical drive worth $10 would cost you another 1$ or more in fees. Is it worth paying 10% more for the privilege. Sure, if you're a hipster and want to show the world your anti banking views or whatever, but for a typical user it's not worth using for small payments, unless you really want to hide your financial activity (for instance being a criminal on the run).

Uber or olacab might add bitcoin in near future but right now I don't think there is any taxi booking service that accept bitcoin payments.

Till now there is still not many merchants that accept bitcoin and if you go for online shopping you will merely see 1-2 estores that accept bitcoin.

Currently, Bitcoin cannot support such low payments, the average transaction fees for a $10-$20 are approximately $1.5-2. It's way too much for daily usage.

Ask your average London taxi driver or a New York taxi driver if they know what bitcoin is and will likely give you.

With this in mind, the possibility of finding a taxi that accepts payments in digital currencies is very slim. However, slowly but surely, this begins to change.

I am not sure this will apply in developing countries, too expensive and how about the issue of fee and transfer?
I would prefer to use Alt coin like DGB and other cheaper coins. It's worth a try I think Japan and America deserve this method of payment.

Truly. It will get expensive than the usual pay in the fare. Confirmation as we know varies depending on the fee you pay.

Yeah, if you are traveling cross country!
That would be nice but transaction fees will ruin it though if you really want then you can proceed. The other hindrance is that the driver should know Bitcoin and accepts it as a mode of payment.

It would be hard to make it happen to some countries but in ours it is possible. We have this leading local exchange which has a lot of features with many possible ways to cash in and cash out, exchange from fiat to bitcoin in an instant and send bitcoin or fiat in an instant i.e. only possible when the transaction is within with no fees. The thing is: we have a one leading exchanger hence people here would use it mostly since other exchangers here are far left behind. Also no need to worry much that a third party holds it, it is officially registered as a company in our government and surely you will have a lot of legal actions to take and policemen running after them since their faces are known i.e. if they somehow run away with all of those bitcoins but as a smart person you will only store the bitcoins you will use right away then store most of it to a wallet where you control your keys.

Yes it would be great if the fees are lower because if you pay higher than paying it with cash then fiat would be preferable. For now, bitcoin is preferable if you spend it in high value transactions cause you wouldn't mind that much the transaction fee but if you spent it in small value items then you might try paying it in other payment options cause you may end up paying higher when you pay it through bitcoin.

Yes if the transaction fee will reduce then maybe its a good to use bitcoin like a swipe your card only just scan your QR CODE and your payment already there only transaction fee is way more expensive today i hope bitcoin devs can make a good way to lower the transaction fee

I agree if you taxi would accept bitcoin as payment option. However, it will be very difficult because of the high transaction fees. I would love to see it the future because I frequently used taxi.

Yes, this is what I saying. Way to much, then you have to wait for at least 6 confirmations now. But I think there are a lot of innovations that is being work so that we can see lighting fast transaction and I'm pretty sure that in the future we are  going to see taxi's or any mode of transportation for that matter that accepts bitcoin as payment. But now it ain't gonna happened.

Yes I really agree with you, I think the bitcoin payment in taxi is very effective and easy, besides the passengers do not need to bring cash money, this is very good because the less we bring cash, the less we avoid the crime

Why stop with taxis and Uber. I think I want to pay my bus fare with bitcoins.

A bus fare ticket here is 55 eurocents.
With an estimate 3 euros for a tx I would rather take a taxi.

And unfortunately on average my taxi fare (work/home) here is around 4-5 euros.
Paying with bitcoins I would pay an extra 80%.

So I would rather walk or take a bus and paying with cash.
