The first mass production batch (sapphire) has finished its PCB production and assembly today. It has significant improvements in: Heat reduction: 560mA (emerald) -> 500-510mA (sapphire). Stability: We stressed it with 9 Block Erupter USBs in a row without heatsinks heating up each other in a very dense USB hub with 25C without active airflow. No unexpected (non-probabilistic) HW errors ever happen. Speed: This comes after better stability. Now the hashrate converges to its theoretical value of 336MH/s. Appearance: Manual assembly (emerald) -> SMT machine assembly (sapphire) Standard heat-sink (emerald) -> heat-sink front-case 2-in-1 logo-ed (sapphire). LED added. Four types of front-case: All of them are eager to be powered up and hashing! We had shipped the first 200 USBs today immediately after they are out of the factory. Soon more than 10,000 shiny little stones will be distributed international and quietly erupt blocks.

I wish I could buy one of these why? they can't make roi ever, they are useless... Not being an ass but can you elaborate? it's the expected onlining of all the other aisc stuff. avalon, but their own units and the chips, the 100th mine, bfl, etc. difficulty is expected by most to launch like a saturn 5 rocket and leave the moon in it's wake. if that actually happens, ROI with these will go from the current 4 or 5 months (or whatever it is) to longer and longer, until eventually the electrical cost of running one, plus the host pc, exceeds what it earns.

Yes ROI is going to be rough, but you have no idea of what the future price of BTC will be.
Also, buying one of these; just for the _fun_ of it and helping the BTC community, is more important than how rich you get!
It's the idea that is important, not the product!

Your math is wrong - roi on these at ~2btc each is 4 to 60 months. I definately isn't the best option because of the sidecosts associated with running 300 of these... but it definately is doable

Just to nail the point home, these have a MHash/Sec/$ rate of approximately 1.31 whereas an upcoming KNC Jupiter has a MHash/Sec/$ over 50. https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparisonThese little guys will take approximately 38 x longer to receive a profit. Oh, and the value of BTC doesn't factor into the equation at all as you are paying in BTC and receiving BTC through mining. However, that being said. I think overall these will help drive the price of bitcoin up as people mining with them won't want to sell their bitcoin at current rates.

I think friedcat should make a version that the hashing power is suppressed. As the time goes on, he may send a command to unlock some of it for another 0.2Btc to keep up with the rising hash rate. This way, he does not have to make a new hardware over and over, and starts collect subscription fee instead. It also mess with the mind people trying to guess whether of not a device can meet ROI, so they have no choice but to buy anyway. That 10G blade could be sold for 2 btc using this scheme.

I agree with the others, if the price was 0.5 BTC then I'd definitely buy one. No chance of me buying one - or a bundle when they're priced around $240 each. For that price I could get a 7870 which does around 400 MH/s, comes with free games and has a better resale value. Only real downside is that it takes more power, but it can be used for gaming, or Folding@Home as well.

Australian code been hashing since 14-May cgminer next release will support them automatically (it already does in git) With current 3.1.1 you need either --icarus-options 115200:1:1 --icarus-timing shortOR --icarus-options 115200:1:1 --icarus-timing 3.0=100N.B. the 3.0 will depend on your chips performance but it wont slow anything down (or hash less) if it is wrong, it will just not report the correct MH/s The 100 ensures it will hash at full speed. (Edit: forgot to add of course you need -S device for 3.1.1 for each device also e.g. -S COM1 or -S /dev/ttyUSB0) And to repeat: next release of cgminer will find them automatically (and also allow hotplug of them) Also note that temperature is important with these devices. Mine doesn't have a heat sink and gets between 1% and 1.5% errors with ambient low 20'sC If you are noticing even 1% errors, cooling it down will almost certainly reduce that. My recent post about them https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=195004.msg2241307#msg2241307and a few after that

Now that the order limit has been lowered to 50, is there interest in a Group Buy based in the Western US? It would be run similar to CanaryInTheMine's at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=217981.0 but restricted to US orders only. The cost would be a flat BTC2.1 per USB miner. They would be shipped by Priority Mail. I'm based in southern California, so orders from the western US would arrive earliest. Orders would be collected using a Google Doc form such as https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1BuuD7-o_rmz1hIJrLrBstewoRD_iWt2wrEFiKCpadsA/viewform. Reply or PM if you are interested, and if there is enough interest I will open it up.

Is there any benefit to using a USB 3.0 hub or is a USB 2.0 hub sufficient?
I understand that 500 mA must be provided to each miner. Does anyone have a suggestion for the best powered hub to use for multiple USB Erupter mining?

Is there any benefit to using a USB 3.0 hub or is a USB 2.0 hub sufficient? I understand that 500 mA must be provided to each miner. Does anyone have a suggestion for the best powered hub to use for multiple USB Erupter mining?
No benefit to using a 3.0 hub over a 2.0 hub. Sufficient power to each port is what is critical and the USB 3.0 spec does not specify 500mA minimum as a standard.

Will it pay off? Looking at the graphs at BitcoinDifficulty.com, it looks like difficulty has increased quite linearly by 8 000 000 in the past 3 months, that's about 1.3 million in each 2 week period. At 336 MH/s, we would do about 406 TH (Tera-hashes) per 2 weeks. Here's a table of how much we would make if we started today: Weeks | Difficulty | BTC/2w | Cumulative BTC | 2 | 12 153 411 | 0,195 | 0.195 | 4 | 14 820 077 | 0,160 | 0.354 | 6 | 16 153 410 | 0,146 | 0.501 | 8 | 17 486 743 | 0,135 | 0.636 | ... | 48 | 44 153 403 | 0,054 | 2.239 | 50 | 45 486 736 | 0,052 | 2.291 | 52 | 46 820 069 | 0,051 | 2.342 |
So, sure, after a year we'd have covered the cost, barely. If we'd start mining in a month rather than now, we'd just about covered the cost in one year. At that point we'd be making about 50 mBTC per two week, with the amout decreasing by about 3 mBTC per month. In this model I have not subtracted the cost of electricity, which I believe for me would be about 1 mBTC per 2 weeks. Might be a fun thing to give mining a try, but it doesn't look like a gold mine to me. Apologies if this calculation has already been made, I didn't trawl the entire thread.

Use fabulouspanda.co.uk/macminer install these drivers http://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/Pages/USBtoUARTBridgeVCPDrivers.aspxplug in the device, open terminal and run ls /dev/cu* find your device which will look something like /dev/cu.yourdevice in advanced options in MacMiner put -S /dev/cu.your device then click apply click start you're mining!

Use fabulouspanda.co.uk/macminer ... click start you're mining! So are you saying that "macminer" by itself is all that's needed? IOWs, there is no need to also install either cgminer or bflminer?

Stability: We stressed it with 9 Block Erupter USBs in a row without heatsinks heating up each other in a very dense USB hub with 25C without active airflow. No unexpected (non-probabilistic) HW errors ever happen.
What's the expected probabilistic error rate? I'm seeing approximately 1% HW errors (apparently false nonces) reported.

he wazzup? listen i just saw that this is true(i thought was fake but... seems not) so can u send some or one so i can review here in Brazil? PM if interested.
JFYI i love the idea of easy mining without GPUs and without those boxes as BTF does, even that they say make at least 5Gh/s. i don't think is true but that not the case here. But i do have one question... my ASUS P8Z68-v pro/gen3 has tons USB 3.0 with turbo boost and some stuff that makes way higher that usual, will that make it more fast to mine? or i could use 1.1/2.0 usbs that will work as well equal?
sorry for bad bad English.
i wish u could PM me at least so we can talk

Grammar is not a problem, there are many non-native speakers here, so that's fine. But using abbreviations and slang terms (like "u" or "wassup") makes it really difficult to understand.

It's not about size, it's about surface. This little HS doesn't look like much, but it increases the surface by x9! ASIC 6x6=36mm 2HS 8x8=64mm 2x5(one for each blade)=320mm 2320/36=8,8 plus borders on blades and base = ~ x9 Why friedcat made the new heatsink without surface in mind is completely beyond me, specially since the original was!

"snipped" IMO- the finned heatsinks actually increased the miner next to it (When in the Hub). Hub spacing is tight. Dig the little addition! What's the model Hub you're using?

Yes ROI is going to be rough, but you have no idea of what the future price of BTC will be.
Also, buying one of these; just for the _fun_ of it and helping the BTC community, is more important than how rich you get!
It's the idea that is important, not the product!
The first line of this is wild speculation and is nonsense. It is then followed up with even more nonsense. If there are any newbies here take note of how not to think when getting involved in Bitcoin. There are other ways to grow your coins without having to live on prayers, dreams, and baseless "what ifs"

So you gingerly PM me once in a while and then complain if I "get in your sales" then you kinda insinuate your comform level with setting up some kind of an oligopoly between us (of which I want no part)... and now you want to strong arm friedcat by asking people to flood his inbox with PMs. how low can you get??? disgusting

Canary, I'm starting to think your goal is to just drum up drama. It's really ok to just attack me on one thread, even if it happens to be my own sales thread. Your voice is loud enough over there that you don't need to crowd other places. I understand you've had a crappy day, but this is not the way you should treat a fellow re-seller and this is exactly why I feel ASICM should make a decision regarding re-sellers. I'm a friendly guy and I'm being treated downright hostile at present. My post was neutral and just calling on my own customers to share feedback - I didn't involve you at all. A good lesson to learn here is to work on one-on-one communication before over-reacting. It's often the fastest way to a resolution and definitely the least juvenile. **Edit** It was brought to my attention that my previous innocent intentioned post may have come off as spam to some. My sincere apologies. It's been moved to my own sales thread only.
