  • Provably Fair
  • Cryptographically Verifiable

How to Play:

Send any multiple of 0.01 BTC up to a maximum of 6000.00 BTC to:

1Lotto3CMJwLLpRUPHxkmDXbXqhHC9Jffo
1Lotto3CMJwLLpRUPHxkmDXbXqhHC9Jffo

using compatible bitcoin wallet software, where you can prove ownership of the sending address.

  • Bitcoin-Qt
  • Electrum
  • Armory
  • BitcoinJ
  • MultiBit
  • Blockchain.info
  • Blockchain (Android)
  • BitcoinSpinner (Android)
  • Mycelium (Android)
  • Bitcoin Wallet (Android)
  • Blockchain (iOS)
  • Inputs.io = you must generate a receipt.

If it is not listed here assume it is not compatible.
Any method that sends BTC using only your own private keys is compatible.

Will NOT work: Any Shared Wallets such as BitPay, Mt.Gox, localbitcoins, other exchanges. Inputs.io must post or PM receipts.
If you are unsure, sending some BTC to Blockchain.info or Bitcoin Wallet / BitcoinSpinner / Mycelium for Android, then buying the tickets with it, is quick and easy.

You can opt to do one of two things after sending the bitcoins:

1. That's it. You are effectively anonymous. If you win, you get your winnings sent to the address you sent your bet from. If you sent from more than one address, the winnings will be sent to one of them.

2. Post here your bitcoin sending address, and sign it with a single line message containing another bitcoin address (using the message signing feature of bitcoin.)

In the future, when I have a website, this feature will be included as part of the interface.

Example:

Quote
1DabsXmraEr18jdEryck8jzcFku873xmRf
1K7TmkJ5MT95nGbVgDxp1Vi8LT6ZBEYEcF

If 1. Then just wait to see if you win.
If 2. If you win, your winnings get sent to that other bitcoin address. You must prove ownership by signing the message which is the new address. You must sign with Bitcoin-Qt or compatible wallet.

All payments received prior to deadline is part of the raffle.

Details About Low Hash Lotto:

This is a raffle style lottery. Therefore, the odds of winning scale (non-linearly) with the jackpot size compared to ticket price. No matter how small or big the jackpot, the price of each ticket, is a good deal. Up to 100% of tickets sales go to the winner/s.

By using bitcoins for a lottery several unique features are now possible:
  • the players identities are unknown but all the tickets are known
  • every ticket purchased can be viewed by everyone along with the senders bitcoin address
  • each ticket is permanent and can't be altered because it is stored inside the blockchain
  • the pot size can not be faked as anyone can check the lottery address and verify it

The players can be known too. Just post here.

Most importantly, it's impossible to manipulate who wins or fake a payment to the wrong person because:
  • each ticket has a unique number that is permanent (transaction hash)
  • using some block data and hashing with SHA-256
  • the transaction hashes stored in the blockchain are then used to calculate the winner in an impossible to predict way
  • a secret known only by me is hashed and published so I can not change the secret later
  • the secret is then published after the deadline
  • the winnings are then sent to the EXACT same address that bought the ticket or to an address that you choose.

All of this can be monitored and verified by anyone and is recorded in the blockchain.

Good Luck.

After the draw all tickets and their hashes will be posted along with the winner. If there are more than 100 tickets, I will only post the first 100 sorted tickets.

You will have the secret by then and can compute for your own ticket.

How I will compute your hashes:
1. Get your transaction id, appending a 6 digit number depending on how much you sent.
2. Use the following secrets
3. Hash them together as one string
4. Sort the hashes

The winner is the hash with the lowest value.

Secrets to be used:

If you send exactly 0.01 then I will take your transaction ID and append a 6 digit number as 000001 with leading zeros.

If you send more than 0.01 then I will take your transaction ID and append a 6 digit number for every multiple of 0.01 with leading zeros, starting at 000001.

Every fraction of bitcoins less than 0.01 will go to the prize funds but not be counted as a ticket, so if you send 0.0199 I will consider that as still 1 bet. The rest, just goes to the total pot.

Examples:

If you send 0.01, then your transaction id is used like this:
sha256("txid000001secret1secret2secret3secret4secret5secret6secret7")

If you send 0.05, then your transaction id is used like this:
sha256("txid000001secret1secret2secret3secret4secret5secret6secret7")
sha256("txid000002secret1secret2secret3secret4secret5secret6secret7")
sha256("txid000003secret1secret2secret3secret4secret5secret6secret7")
sha256("txid000004secret1secret2secret3secret4secret5secret6secret7")
sha256("txid000005secret1secret2secret3secret4secret5secret6secret7")

Where:
txid = transaction id in hex as it appears in bitcoin-qt or blockchain
000001 = your first ticket or only ticket
000002 = your next ticket. You can buy a million tickets if you want
000000 = the millionth ticket.
secret1 = Low Hash Secret
secret2 = Little Bit At A Time Secret
secret3 = SatoshiDice Secret
secret4 = SatoshiRoulette Secret
secret5 = BitSaloon Secret
secret6 = PrimeDice Secret
secret7 = Random.org's Random String Generator

(Six) 6 digits is used just in case someone sends me a large number of coins.

The maximum bet with 6 digits used in this manner is 6000 BTC, for a million total tickets inclusive of the Worm Tickets and the Volume Bonus Tickets.

The winner is the hash with the lowest value.

I will then send up to 100% of the total jackpot to the winner, according to a sliding scale, described in detail below.

Some Frequently Asked Questions:

What's with all the secrets?

To meet criteria for being Provably Fair and Cheat Proof. I have one secret. There are 5 other hash-verifiable secrets from different gaming or gambling sites published immediately after midnight of the deadline, and finally there is a secret that is generated from true random numbers from atmospheric noise.

No single website will tell me their secrets. I won't tell my secret. And the planet has a secret that won't be revealed until that day. All secrets are verifiable after they are published.

HotBits was not used because there is no way to verify past generated secrets.

Can you give me a reason to play this game now, instead of near the deadline when the jackpot is higher?

Early Bird gets the Worm Tickets (aka discounted pricing if you buy early.)

If you buy any tickets that are confirmed before or in block 268700, (about 300 blocks or 2 days from now) you get bonus tickets as follows:
A Worm Ticket for every 5 regular tickets confirmed in or before block 268700. (late)
A Worm Ticket for every 4 regular tickets confirmed in or before block 268600. (middle)
A Worm Ticket for every 3 regular tickets confirmed in or before block 268500. (early)

In other words, you get worm tickets depending on when you sent your bitcoins. Just in case this is not clear, let me rephrase the previous paragraph.
If your transaction is confirmed in blocks 268349 to 268500, you get a worm ticket for every 3 regular tickets.
If your transaction is confirmed in blocks 268501 to 268600, you get a worm ticket for every 4 regular tickets.
If your transaction is confirmed in blocks 268601 to 268700, you get a worm ticket for every 5 regular tickets.

The minimum regular ticket purchase is 3 to 5 depending on the block your transaction gets included.

Can I buy a lot of tickets at once? Do I get a bonus? Is there a volume discount?

Yes.

If you send
0.01 BTC, you get 1 ticket.
1.00 BTC, you get 100 tickets plus a bonus ticket for every 10. 110 total.
2.00 BTC, you get 200 tickets plus a bonus ticket for every 9. 222 total.
3.00 BTC, you get 300 tickets plus a bonus ticket for every 8. 337 total.
4.00 BTC, you get 400 tickets plus a bonus ticket for every 7. 457 total.
5.00 BTC, you get 500 tickets plus a bonus ticket for every 7. 571 total.
6.00 BTC, you get 600 tickets plus a bonus ticket for every 6. 700 total.
7.00 BTC, you get 700 tickets plus a bonus ticket for every 6. 816 total.
8.00 BTC, you get 800 tickets plus a bonus ticket for every 5. 960 total.
9.00 BTC, you get 900 tickets plus a bonus ticket for every 5. 1,080 total.
10.00 BTC, you get 1,000 tickets plus a bonus ticket for every 4. 1,250 total.
15.00 BTC, you get 1,500 tickets plus a bonus ticket for every 3.5. 1,928 total.
20.00 BTC, you get 2,000 tickets plus a bonus ticket for every 3. 2,666 total.

However, the jackpot increases only as much BTC as is put in though.

Since there are no fractions or partial tickets, the actual number of tickets you get will be rounded down to a whole number.

How do the above two bonus tickets work?

The volume bonuses are applied first. Then the early bird bonus is applied on the number of tickets that results after the volume bonus. This means you get more tickets if you are both an early bird and a bulk buyer.

Example:
You send 0.01 BTC early. You get 1 ticket.
You send 0.03 BTC early. You get 4 tickets. (Depending on block number of your ticket.)
You send 1.00 BTC early. You get 100 regular tickets, 10 Volume Tickets, and 36 Worm Tickets. Total 146 tickets.

You send 0.03 BTC after block (late). You get 3 tickets.
You send 1.00 BTC after block (late). You get 100 regular tickets, and 10 volume bonus tickets. Total 110 tickets.

You send 20.00 BTC really early. You get 2000 regular tickets, 666 Volume Bonus Tickets and 888 Worm Tickets. Total 3,554 tickets.
You send 20.00 BTC after block (middle) but before block (late). You get 2000 regular tickets, 666 Worm Tickets, and 666 volume bonus tickets. Total 3,332 tickets.

(late) = after last early bird tier.
(middle) = the middle tier.

So you see, the earlier you buy, the better. The more you buy the better. If you buy early and more, the better. More tickets increases your chances of winning the jackpot.

Can I buy 5 tickets now, and 5 tickets later and you combine them so I can get more bonus tickets?
No. I compute the bonus tickets (both volume and worms) based on a per transaction basis. Meaning, if you want the most tickets, you have to buy it in one transaction.

In the future, this system will probably be automated. There is no way for the system to know you are buying tickets with different payments unless you use the same wallet, and even then, there is no way for the system to know if you simply wanted a different transaction hash for those tickets.

If you have 4 different transactions, I apply the bonuses separately.

I guess it wasn't clear that you have to buy all the tickets in one transaction to maximize your bonus tickets. Otherwise, we'd get people buying 1 BTC, then 5, then 14, and try claiming for the 20 BTC bracket.

For the next game, I will make it clearer that bonuses (if any) are applied on a per transaction basis. Even if I am doing this manually now, I can't just give in to others who may have made a mistake in buying tickets. Others will see it (it's all on the blockchain) and complain.

Are you really paying out 100%?

First, we look at the total funds.

I made a sliding scale based on powers of 10, starting from 1 bitcoin at 100%, and going two percent down until 90%, all the way up to 10 million bitcoins worth (just in case.)

This translates to the following table:

Min BTC              Max BTC Percentage goes to the prizes
0.01 BTC up to          1 BTC   100%     goes to the prizes
1.01 BTC up to         10 BTC    98%     goes to the prizes
10.01 BTC up to        100 BTC    96%     goes to the prizes
100.01 BTC up to      1,000 BTC    94%     goes to the prizes
1,000.01 BTC up to     10,000 BTC    92%     goes to the prizes
10,000.01 BTC up to    100,000 BTC    90%     goes to the prizes
100,000.01 BTC up to  1,000,000 BTC    90%     goes to the prizes
1,000,000.01 BTC up to 10,000,000 BTC    90%     goes to the prizes
10,000,000.01 BTC up to 21,000,000 BTC    90%     goes to the prizes

Of the total prize funds, they are then allocated as follows:

83.33% of the funds goes to the current jackpot. This is what the winner receives.
16.67% goes to the next jackpot, for the next round and any bitcoin transaction fees.

Just some reminders:
1. If you don't like the rules, don't play.
2. I am going to do all the hashing manually.
3. Games start with 16.67% of whatever amount the previous game had.
4. If I change or update the rules, they will take effect after the next game. It will not affect this game or the current game.
5. I only get a profit when the total combined prize exceeds 1 BTC.

Although I said you can send from multiple addresses, as that's how bitcoin works, I would prefer you send your bet from a single address.

What's with the 83.33% / 16.67% deal?

There are two purposes for this.
1. To ensure that the next game starts with something.
2. To prevent someone from attempting to buy all the tickets. You can actually buy a million worth, but the prize you'll get is only 83.33%.
3. If someone does buy a million worth, the next game starts with about 166700 BTC minimum guaranteed jackpot.

Are there Second place prizes? Third place?

Maybe in a future game. Right now, just one winner. I had thought of having 1 jackpot winner, 3 2nd place winners, and 5 3rd place winners. Let me know what your ideas are on this. This will probably happen later on when the pots are regularly bigger.

What's this Afterlife Guaranteed Payment?

This is something I coined called Afterlife Guaranteed Payments. The winner gets paid even if I'm dead.

I have set up in place a dead man's switch using two different systems that will send the needed details to determine the winners to at least two trusted people from this forum community, should I get hit by a bus or is otherwise incapacitated and can not log in to my computer in 3 months.

A third email will be sent to at least one other person who gets notified that maybe something happened to me, so he can announce it in this thread or forum.

The winner can still be determined. The prize allocated and sent.

You actually believe someone will send you 6000.00 BTC for a million tickets?

You never know. This is gambling after all. But with that many tickets, he's bound to win. If the jackpot before his purchase was already at 1826.40 BTC, he is almost guaranteed to win back his investment.

We need a whale every now and then.

Will there be another game after this?

Yes. This will be weekly, more or less. I target the middle of the week, which is a Wednesday.

Whoa there, you get 10k if the jackpot is 100k?

First, that's not likely to happen soon. Second, if it goes that high, I need an incentive to not disappear with the money. 10% will keep me happy, I will spend about 10 hours computing for the winner, and the whole system is still Provably Fair and completely Transparent. The winner can be anonymous, but I am not. I will use my cut to get a bodyguard, so that future draws will have nothing to fear from terrorist organizations intent on robbing this operator.

Besides, the next game will start with 15,000 BTC, someone somewhere out there might want to "cheat" in the only way they can, and that is to get it from me by threat of force.

I have a bitcoin gambling or other website. Can you include my secret in your game?

You need to satisfy a few requirements:
1. You publish the hash of the secret at least a day in advance or is otherwise Provably Unmanipulatable.
2. I personally prefer SHA256 as your hash function.
3. I also personally prefer that your secret is only 64 characters, preferably alphanumeric with no spaces.
4. Your secret must be published after midnight UTC, preferably immediately after midnight.
5. You need to play first. Go buy a ticket.

What are your favorite songs now?
Brighter Than The Sun by Colbie Caillat = Low Hash Theme Song
Buses and Trains by Bachelor Girl = The Dead Man's Switch Song
Just Give Me a Reason by Pink = Early Bird Gets The Worm Song
A Thousand Years by Cristina Perri = How Long This Lotto Will Last Song or How Many Tickets Song (also a vampire thingie)
Love On Top by Beyonce = Last Minute Bets Song
Put it in a Love Song by Alicia Keys and Beyonce = I have no idea
Lighters by Bad Meets Evil Featuring Bruno Mars and Eminem = Just a new song
California King Bed by Rihanna = Where I want to sleep on
Roar by Katy Perry = With a view of Taal Volcano, it's more Fun in the Philippines

In The Philippines, The song "Brighter Than The Sun" has been featured in a TV commercial for Solaire Resort & Casino it was first seen on ABS-CBN.

What's with the songs?
They're nice to listen to while computing the hashes for a thousand tickets or something.

Ok, so.... the game starts ... now.

This isn't provably fair actually. You know the secret, and you know exactly what number you can get.

Simple solution would be this: I have my own secret, the hash of it is 489a19950641ae5762a5818611db72e83d30813e44e899e944b0d3f0d2e2dfa0

We join the secrets together when calculating.

This way, we can't cheat without both of us collaborating.

Sounds good? Also, this statement isn't really true:

Simple solution would be this: I have my own secret, the hash of it is 489a19950641ae5762a5818611db72e83d30813e44e899e944b0d3f0d2e2dfa0

We join the secrets together when calculating.

This way, we can't cheat without both of us collaborating.

Sounds good? Also, this statement isn't really true:

Quote
This is a raffle style lottery. Therefore, the odds of winning scale with the jackpot size compared to ticket price. No matter how small or big the jackpot, the price of each ticket, is a good deal. Up to 100% of tickets sales go to the winner/s.

The jackpot is not linear with the amount of tickets.

The thought did not occur to me to actually play my own game, since I am the operator. Make me wonder if SD plays its own dice games.

Ok. That makes sense. In the interest of openness and transparency, the tickets will be calculated in the following manner:

sha256("txid00000001secret1secret2")

Where
txid = transaction id
00000001 = ticket number (goes up if you buy more than 1)
secret1 = Dabs Secret
secret2 = TradeFortress Secret

This was actually one of my concerns in the previous round.

Any changes in the rules will be for the benefit of or in favor of the players, such as this particular amendment.

For now, that should do, correct?

The following is for discussion only or comments, but will not be implemented now:

In future rounds, I may as well go on using more secrets which are unknown even to me, such as using secrets from many popular dice games. (satoshidice, diceoncrack, bitsaloon, royalbitcoin, coinroll)... They all have secrets, they all publish them 24 to 48 hours later.

Since we're at it, I might as well add actual lotto results from a real life lotto and I had in mind the Philippine Grand Lotto 6/55, draws are every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Which is why I also picked Wednesday.

That way, no single person or entity can manipulate the results.

I also read a mention of using all the tickets (or tx id) to combine into one hash, but how to put them in what order is not clear to me, since blocks can't be relied on for time. This way, every transaction affects all other transactions in the draw.

There is also the http://www.random.org/draws/records/ which has public draws. But it's a little bit difficult to use, unless someone actually pays for a draw.

What I would prefer is something simple that even a person can do by hand using freely available tools or websites, such as
http://www.xorbin.com/tools/sha256-hash-calculator

As for the jackpot, it still scales, but not linearly like you said. It depends on whether or not there are volume buyers. Which, I might explain now, have to buy their bulk tickets in one transaction. Multiple transactions only get whatever tickets you get at the point. So I can't combine two different payments from two different transactions even if they both come from a single address. I hope that is clear.

So, players, start buying your tickets.

I like the idea of using other site's secrets. For one, site operators won't tell them to you because then you'll be able to cheat in their games. Assuming that you're not the same person (obviously not), this is actually quite perfect provably fairness.

Also, left you positive feedback.

Good. I can start using that on Dabs Lotto Number 3 next week.

I'd like to avoid using people, like yourself. Large websites such as those mentioned aren't likely to get hit by a bus. (Or, it seems, they practically run themselves.)

I will make a small compilation of third party website secrets, but so far, the list I mentioned should be more than enough.

The amount of work you put into this is uh...wow to say the least. I hope this actually becomes successful with all the writing you did. I'll send .01 for giggles if I see at least 10 people or so in it next time I look at the address  Smiley

There's something about inspiration, determination, perspiration and frustration. I forgot exactly what it was, but here's my take on it.

My inspiration was one of the older lotteries. I am determined to make something like it work again. Thomas Edison said it was 99% perspiration. It all starts with 99% frustration.

Here's the address as seen from blockchain.
https://blockchain.info/address/1K7TmkJ5MT95nGbVgDxp1Vi8LT6ZBEYEcF

Only look at the final balance. It's a carry over from the first round, since it was hardly used, and I didn't want to make a new QR code graphic. When I do have a website in the hopefully not too distant future, I might use a vanity address. But I prefer compressed keys.

Sounds all great and fair. Only that 80% / 20% deal makes the first game have terrible odds (unless I as a player decide to play the next one too.) I think it's obvious, but small example: if I bet 0.5, someone else also 0.5 and besides that nobody else, then the maximum we can win from a 50% coinflip is 0.8. Perhaps you could make that more "natural" like 97% / 3% first game and every game 3% more to jackpot. If it's 80% / 20% in the end and people bet around the same amount every week then of course you don't really have this problem anymore. I can't be bothered to calculate it all exactly but I assume the things I say here are correct, if not please correct me hehe :p good luck anyways.. I will keep an eye on it and might join with some small money.

With your example:
0.8 goes to the winner. The next game starts with 0.2 already, so if you play again, even with 0.01, and no one else plays, you get 20 times what you put in.

Of course, with that kind of system, everyone will want to join in. So your odds of winning diminishes as new tickets are put in the system. The jackpot eventually gets bigger faster. At least that was my intention.

Maybe people can post here what they prefer, if 80/20 is fine, or should I start with 90/10?

Also, if in case I get hit by a train, I am authorizing my backup (dead man's switch) handlers to include the entire amount (100%), since there will be no next game. Asking for a 20% donation to my funeral is a bit too much I think, not that I care.

Ok. Your archive is a bit something to sort through, but it's all there alright.
What's the 99 mean? hehehe...

Confirming 2 tickets.

Was out over the weekend. Any reactions to having an early bird discount for the next game? Like 1 bonus ticket for every 2? Only for the early buyers.

Re. using other games' secrets, https://lbaat.net/ seems ideal for this.  They publish one secret every hour, and each one is the hash of the next one.  The site's owner obviously has access to all the secrets, but that's always going to be the case.  If you still keep your own secret as well, that should be enough secrets to satisfy everyone.

Also, I'm just curious, but would it be considered a conflict of interest if I played in your lottery as well as manning your dead-mans switch?

I don't think so. Everyone would know who won. As long as the winning ticket wasn't one that was submitted AFTER the deadline (and thus can know the secret after it was revealed). After all, the game is provably fair. So even I can join. But maybe that's not a good idea since I'm the operator.

Besides, you're not getting the secret until at least 60 days later. So there's no way for anyone to cheat. And since TradeFortress has another secret, there's no way for the operator to cheat. And since we're not revealing the secrets until after Wednesday, there's no way for anyone to cheat.

Anyone who plays, is subject to the same rules (unless amended.)

Go play. hehe. There's no way for me or anyone else to know if it was really you.

I just looked at it. It seems to keep only the most recent 24 hours worth of secrets, although I think I can calculate into the past if needed. I wonder what year he "started" the secret or maybe it was 2000 years into the future.

I would update the rules to have the deadline about 1 hour before the next secret is revealed. Or even up the last minute. But block times aren't accurate, so 1 hour is a better hedge maybe.

*edit* I can enter any time point in the present or the past and click the button to get the secret.

Ok. 3 tickets in. 0.03 jackpot. 80% goes to the winner (if no one violently objects, because there are still people that can't read even if it's already posted in the rules.)

See the first button in the top left, "get timepoint secret"?  That will give you any (revealed) secret you like.

I wonder what year he "started" the secret or maybe it was 2000 years into the future.

One question: what's the time of the first (or should I say: last) secret?

The secrets go for a bit more than 200 years.

Excellent. For Dabs Lotto Number 3, I will consider using only 2 secrets. That way, the results can be computed faster without waiting for the other secrets which can take up to 2 days to be revealed.

Sorry, I didn't realize about your coin control adventures. I think Armory has coin control too (but they don't work with compressed keys yet.)
