FIRST GIVEAWAY DAY RESULTS!

There were 13 fallen buckets on June 11, 2013, in the GMT time zone. In total, there were 68 entries in the giveaway. So who was the winner?

CONGRATULATIONS 13ExrYxnpaSKbVVXFLuX5kYPXSWBr6L6yf, YOU WIN 0.1 BTC!

They should. Did you only play in the red bucket? There's two outstanding red bucket falling transactions that haven't been included in this giveaway. (They'll be included once they are confirmed.)

A little bit of math about the giveaway:

There were 68 entries yesterday. Each 0.005 BTC bet was worth about 2.5 entries on average. Each 0.005 BTC bet gave you around 4% chance to win the giveaway. That means that each 0.005 BTC bet gives you 4% chance to earn 0.1 BTC -- that's 0.004 BTC expected value -- beyond what you already earn from playing Satoshi Buckets.

IN OTHER WORDS, minimum bets are about 80% cheaper thanks to the giveaway. The expected return of a minimum bet is much more than 100%!

Someone decided to test Satoshi Buckets with huge bets. As a result, there was a round with R=0.125, G=0.19, B=0.15. That was the biggest round yet! (Green fell.) Thank you anonymous tester!

If things like this happen more often, I'll raise the minimum round threshold to 0.05 BTC per bucket, to prevent people from winning a large bucket with a much, much smaller bet amount. (This would once again also reduce back and forth transaction fees.)

No buckets seem to have fallen for around 16 hours now. Is this just due to the lack of btc being pumped into the buckets?

Yes. The buckets only fall when there is enough to get them activated. After this it waits for the next BTC block for generating which bucket should drop.

Hmm, in that case maybe I'm confused as to how it works. I was of the impression that if I had coins in red, I would receive transactions from red bucket every time a green or blue bucket fell, and when the red bucket fell, I would receive a 0.00000101 transaction to indicate that it's gone.

However, looking at the address history here, I can see that I've just fallen off the transactions:

My understanding is, that with the next red bucket transaction (2013-06-13 18:25:20), I would have received either a further payment, or a token small payment to indicate that the bucket has fallen. However, I've had no further red bucket transactions after the 15:54:33 one.

Am I misunderstanding the game mechanics here?

thisisgil: Let me look into it, and I'll get right back to you.

But first... giveaway results are ready!

THIRD GIVEAWAY DAY RESULTS!

This time I went with a slightly different method of selecting the winner, which is a lot easier to administer manually and less error prone. (It also slightly benefits people who enter in smaller rounds over larger rounds. Sorry, but I do think the simplification is worth it.) Essentially, the block hash is now used to pick the winning transaction, and then to select an entry at random from it.

So, the last considered block was 00000000000000e9e6d637cadd9059c0ab1cf11175b8f25722ad00270fd01265. This selects the 19th transaction, 5fda6b83c423cad6fdf692937bc5033bd06fa0cc613120fd88a3ce628287008e, and the first entry from that transaction.

CONGRATULATIONS 1BdHQJKjQBn3eKpLWBNNw9kqURrPDRopeY, YOU WIN 0.1 BTC!

Hmm, in that case maybe I'm confused as to how it works. I was of the impression that if I had coins in red, I would receive transactions from red bucket every time a green or blue bucket fell, and when the red bucket fell, I would receive a 0.00000101 transaction to indicate that it's gone.

You almost have it right. You don't receive transactions from the red bucket necessarily -- the transactions come from all three buckets.

If you look at the history,

http://blockchain.info/address/14dD2jzPSpY4kzVacPbVThk187MCupwLCu

You'll see that there's transactions from all three buckets. Since you bet in all three buckets, you only really got a small "signal" transaction when the last bucket fell: http://blockchain.info/tx/2d5dae7f916efd99c488980c92bb354c208259a1e2d62b1fa30f6c0fd5a66e16

So everything seems to be in working order.

(The only thing that is a littly fishy right now is that the green bucket transaction is taking a long time to confirm. This is caused by too small a transaction fee -- but it's not quite as bad as a few days ago.)

However, looking at the address history here, I can see that I've just fallen off the transactions:

Yes, I think that's how it goes, but it seems that you received a small amount from the green bucket as it fell 5 mins after your last payment from red, which means that you had no running bets at 18:25.

I started throwing btc at the buckets on the train yesterday to satiate my boredom, and think that I ended up with bets in all three buckets at one point.

Green appeared to fall as per your transaction above, however, this would mean that I still had funds in the red bucket until it fell later, but received no further red bucket transactions or red bucket-fall notification amount. I also had one transaction back from blue bucket and then no further transactions or notification that it had fallen.

If anyone could help me understand this, it would be much appreciated Smiley

Okay, thanks this helps clear it up a bit.

Perhaps you could consider making so that you receive payouts from the address of whatever bucket you still have funds in? It would seem much more intuitive that way. So for example:

Joe  has coins in red, blue and green. Green falls. Joe receives the following transactions:

Green - the token 0.000001 or whatever
Red - the red bucket share of green's funds
Blue - the blue bucket share of green's funds

Next round, assuming Joe didn't reinvest and Red then fell, Joe would receive:

Green - nothing
Red - the token 0.0000001
Blue - the blue bucket share of red's funds

Does that make sense? I think if you manged it that way, it would make things a lot clearer for multi-bucket players!

Sorry for the double post - just out of interest....

How many confirmations to get into a bucket? 1? 2? 3?
