Announcement on various changes we will be releasing in the coming days:
2. Remove any-2-any trading
Due to the lack of volume and the need to restructure our screen layout we have decided to remove all trading pairs that do not include BTC. I.e. we will be offering only trading to and from BTC in the future. All other trading pairs will be discontinued and all open order deleted.

Implementation timeframe: 25th or 26th May.

I found this last night in the Vircurex announcement thread. There has been no such announcement on the main site, despite the imminent changes. I for one am strongly against these changes, but I thought a greater visibility for this incoming change was required. I would be interested in knowing how many other people feel the same way; there's already a topic about this in another subforum (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=213302.new), but I thought it warranted one here too.

I've emailed customerservice@vircurex.com letting them know my opinion on these changes, and I suggest that anyone who feels strongly about it do also. 'The need to restructure our screen layout' is just about the worst justification possible - form should follow function, not vice versa. As I posted in the other thread, the ability to trade any/any is the major reason why I use VirCurEx, and I regard this ability as the distinguishing feature of VirCurEx. Should this ability be removed, I will be taking my custom elsewhere. I am sure I am not the only one.

Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

Actually, If they want a better volume, they should offer reasonable fees policy.

And they should invent coins from scratch that they premine religiously, that would really help their bottom line. True story.

Vircurex has done a very sensible thing. It was getting way too crazy.

The majority of the any/any pairs have such low volume you are unlikely to get a deal either way. Correct me if I'm wrong? At least this will declutter the site, now they need to work on those damn fees

There already exists an option on the site to hide all pairs that don't involve BTC, if you're interested in decluttering the site.

I agree you're unlikely to be able to sell 'now' for the price you want, but putting an order at the price you want and waiting is usually successful. In the last day, I've successfully traded BQC/IXC, YAC/PPC and FTC/FRC, for example. I am not going to be able to find a market elsewhere that allows me to do that.

I hope that means they keep pairs against USD though, otherwise it's just a commission thing.

Considering the mixed feedback, we will postpone the any-2-any trading for the time being and focus on the redesign on of the site layout.

It's important that you keep the usd option kumala, otherwise it's impossible to get out of any alt positions without taking a view on bitcoin. Sometimes one may be fine with that, but as a btc buyer always has the option of selling out so should an alt buyer. I haven't done this yet on vircurex because liquidity is poor, but it's an important part of assessing options. If you want real liquidity, growth in alts and an exchange that will attract more trades you should promote pairs against fiat, not kill it.

This chart:

http://www.coinchoose.com/charts.php

Shows that Litecoin comprises 28% of all crypto-currency mining.  You can't ignore a market share like that.  Litecoin should be must in any exchange's trading pair.
